  1. I was surprised to recognize it -- I don't own the issue or even a reprint. I did have to look up the issue number. Do you need an address to send me your copy? Jack (I'm sure that's somewhere in the fine print)
  2. Great stuff! I hope you don't mind me swiping your creepy clown for an avatar. Jack
  3. What does the cover cartoon mean? Just a typical "now I've got you alone" gag, I think. I couldn't help but notice that, just like in outer space, men are all bundled up while women are in shorts. They're tough! Is this the successor of the publication that Carl Barks got his start in? Jack
  4. It's my favorite Catman and one of my favorite Cole covers, but in this dark scan it looks even more than usual that Catman or Kitten is -- uh, incontinent. JPS
  5. and a $2 Lassie 20 is an ever better find Useful for slapfights Great cover! JPS (but how fast will it appreciate?)
  6. I certainly agree with him -- it's absurd that any comic published in the last five years should be more than 50¢. That's my maximum too! JPS
  7. What would it take to pry this book from your hands? Hey! I said I liked it first! Don't fight, boys, it has both a front and back cover. Jack Judgment of Solomon
  8. That middle one is great! GCD says Mo Gollub? Do you agree? His pencil/ink work was as nice as his painting. Jack I like all three of those and here are three more (18, 26, 50).
  9. If they're in a group, are they still Lone? Nice-looking books! Jack
  10. That's awesome to have an entire storyline in original print. It looks great! "Get the Engineer, Prince!" (darned comma) and a special appearance by Tin! Great stuff. Jack

    ft88

Catching up on feedback -- I bought a nice stack of mostly lower grade Golden Age comics from ft88 a few months back. Very satisfied. Nice guy to deal with, accurate grading, tight packing, quick shipping. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more. Jack
  12. I echo all of Baz's comments -- multiple transactions, all positive, Brink's truck packaging, accurate listings and packing. Also a great guy to negotiate with for bulk offers. Why am I encouraging others to take advantage of DrX's sales threads? It's already tough enough trying to compete with Baz. Jack
  13. Cool book! JPS World English Dictionary romance — n 5. a narrative in verse or prose, written in a vernacular language in the Middle Ages, dealing with strange and exciting adventures of chivalrous heroes 6. any similar narrative work dealing with events and characters remote from ordinary life 7. the literary genre represented by works of these kinds
  14. Merci! Is it from an issue of Kerry Drake? It give me one big KEEK! Jack
  15. HAW! Uranium plantation -- I love it! Late Gold to Atomic Age writers were almost obsessed with uranium, not surprisingly. Thanks for the links. Jack C.C.Beck did most of the ads (and created the character). Bails says Rafael Astarita and William Schreiber worked on the book, but I can't ID either of them. Schreiber is credited with some of the later ads. Both of the Toby books are on DCM: Captain Tootsie #1 and Captain Tootsie #2 Classic goofiness plus child-endangerment stories. In #2 Cap takes the kids to a "uranium plantation" on an astroid that has been taken over by rebels. All the rocket ships sent to investigate were blown up, so Cap decides to take a bunch of kids there... At least they were honest, though. It only makes sense for one of the kids in a comic based on candy to be name "Fatso".
  16. Superb in every way! How about committing another faux pas like this? Just the right degree of oddball, ideal grade for this kind of book, great variety. Look at Roly Poly 15, for example. Is that Blue Circle? Cover swipe (do you know which artist signed as A.B.?) with highly stylized poses, two crazy plaids on the bad guy -- amazing. Do you have a Vol 1 #6? Supposedly exists but no cover at GCD. The marionettes on Bomber, the insane expression on The Key's face... do the interiors live up to the covers at all? Thanks for posting. Jack
  17. Looks like you've been pawing through my collection. Jack (the prime stuff)
  18. I agree. That's a fabulous cover! (thumbs u Walt Kelly, of course. He drew many of the greatest (non-superhero) covers of the Golden Age. JPS
  19. I agree, but that's also what makes it more expensive. If the cover featured "Professor Donald Duck, the Mightiest Chemist in the Universe!" I would have scored a copy years ago. (Not to mention the incipient beak abuse.) Jack
  20. At last, I found (thanks to comicnut) an affordable copy of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories 44 with "The Mad Chemist" by Barks. To make a long story short, Donald Duck's discovery of methylene (CH2) was cited in a technical article and the famous panel appeared in a review and a textbook! You can read more and see a scan of a reprint page here . Tough cover to scan! I had trouble descreening and showing that the background is dark blue, not black. Not the sort of copy that you high-grade collectors will wet your pants over, but I love it just the same. Jack
  21. Child beating just ain't what it used to be. Jack
  22. Hey, this book came from MY area. Yes indeed! Seller in Forest Lake, MN. JPS
