  1. Great Golden-Age headgear! The name "Randang" cracks me up too. Jack
  2. ...as if I have! I don't know how slavishly Next Issue follows the last published issue. Fantastic Comics seemed to take some liberties. If a feature appeared earlier but not in #8, would they ignore it? Anyone know? The "rules" are probably looser than that. Jack none the less , I am looking forward to it! Not wanting to start any rumors, "I wonder whether Next Issue Project is considering Science Comics 9." I have no idea whether this will happen, but it would be fun. Since their first issue was a Fox title, another Fox title might be low priority. Jack

  4. Extraordinary books!! Congrats (I was the underbidder on #2 ) Dino and I thank you for under bidding me (thumbs u didn't want to seperate the pair! Considering the cover "surgery" theme, you might want to rephrase that. Great stuff! I'd like to get copies some day (but they wouldn't look like yours). I wonder whether Next Issue Project is considering Science Comics 9. Jack
  5. I've never read the story (if there is one), but he's supposed to be a robot. I see -- those are mechanical parts below the gear too? Sort of a fleshy robot, isn't he? Thanks, Jack
  6. What's the blue gear-like object above his left eyeball? Is that what made him blow up real good? Jack
  7. Yeah, reader copies aren't hard to come by. I'm not sure I have ANY war comics in VF and up. Maybe some bronze age Combat Kelly or DC titles in fine or better. I enjoy seeing the high-grade copies here! Jack
  8. Funny, I didn't see you shaking at mine. Another "nobody wants it so nobody has it" title, I suppose. Jack
  9. Especially when some of them guide for so much. I got these at reasonable prices so I said why not. Do you both mean in high grade? (Probably) I'm only missing one in mid-grade and I haven't looked very hard or paid over $2. Jack
  10. How tough is that one? I never see it for sale. Such a classic cover -- Jaws swipe AND crotch-centric -- that it'll probably be one of the last of the late Lois run that I get a copy of. Jack
  11. Classic flatulent elephant cover! Very nice. Let us know how that goes. Jack
  12. I know it's a beater and not one of the favored Big Five, but not a bad-looking DC war book for a buck. Irv Novick working, intentionally I'd imagine, in a Kubert-like style. In fact the seller called it a Kubert book (there is a Kubert back-up story). Jack
  13. Really!? That Stoner guy is everywhere! Some day Stoner's 1930's diaries and sketchbooks will be published and it will be revealed he was the uncredited true creator of Superman. WHOA! But how could that be? Superman doesn't just wear pants, he wears pants with an extra pair of undies on the outside! Jack (maybe there were none left for Phantasmo)
  14. I've thought of sending All-American #16. But it's not something I really have any serious intention of doing. send it (thumbs u Why am I picturing Jesse "Gator" James, Billy "the Kid" Parker and the Ciorac Gang plotting a mail heist? Jack
  15. ...or maybe 13 Little College Street? :wishluck: Oooops! I didn't see these answers last night before I posted. I was working on my next question with the reply box open for long time, going through a huge box of books that arrived yesterday and of course getting hopelessly distracted by every book I picked up. (Check the Short Bus for corroborating evidence.) Sorry, Flee and BZ! Flee, you were only off by a typo. Why don't you accept the trophy, thank the Academy, and write the new question? Can I use my Catman question next time? Jack
  16. Anyone here surprised? Both of those covers have faux Disney characters -- mutant Minnie Mouse is expecially bizarre. Do the interiors have anything to do with the covers on the issues you've seen? (I'll know soon.) Jack
  17. No joke -- these are the books that the Short Bus thread was made for! But we love 'em for it. Jack
  18. This series is driving the indexers at GCD buggy. At the moment it's listed as four different series from four different publishers, two in 1945 and two as reprints in the 1950s. Possibly the contents were remainders. Covers of both yours and mine (in the mail) were reused in the 50s. I hope yours is a first print. Jack
  19. Who would be nutty enough to buy a book called Ribtickler? Jack just for the fun of it!
  20. I Double-Dare you to talk me out of reserving seats on the Short Bus for these two gems, received today. Jack Do you suppose that he hangs out with B-Girls? I recently read a Hit Comics, and there was a character called the Red Bee...I'm sure Scrooge knows him...I had never read the book before (and now Billy Parker has it;) anyway....In that book, the superhero (who should be underneath the short bus) has a pet bee named Mike...and that is basically his superpower... At least from what I gathered.. Oh, he reminds me of your guy;) Pouffy sleeves, red-and-yellow striped long johns, and if I remember right, Michael lived in his belt buckle. You can get away with stuff like that only if you're drawn by Lou Fine. Jack

  22. Me neither -- but that Cow Puncher would have been MY short bus book if Scrooge hadn't been quicker on the draw. Believe me, no one will argue that some of the books I'm getting from Bill have ever seen the inside of the Long Bus! Jack
  23. Pud Wither's Tavern? Let's pray that is the answer. I wish. In fact, I wish I were at Pud Wither's Tavern right now -- but that's not where you go to buy pomanay extract. I'll try to write a replacement question tonight, but Real Life is hoppin' today. Someone else is welcome to jump in (with a question that doesn't involve anything published after 1970). On with the show. Catman and the Kitten faced off against a villain who was assisted by a gang of gorillas and a pair of eccentric sisters. What were the sisters' full names? Jack
