  1. Congrats, Jack. I was wondering if anyone would make that connection without a few more clues. Who could forget Doctor Hormone? Presumably Popular Comics, but issue number's not needed for the win? Woo-hoo! I wonder whether there's a chance that this feature and Phantasmo will get the Next Issue treatment. Has Image announced the next issues of Next Issue? Jack
  2. Looks suspiciously like hyena hormones run amuck! Could it be the Master of Human Chemistry again? Jack
  3. It's not the hardest question yet, but it's certainly the least popular. I can't think of clues that don't just give away the answer. If no one answers by tomorrow I'll come up with a Gold or Silver question. Jack
  4. You know that everyone here is now clamoring to see the Women in Tubes on the next page! Jack (Where's Bill Bixby?)
  5. HAW! How many copies of this scarce treasure have shown up on ebay this weekend? Where did the Crimes font come from? I did a quick survey of Crime logos and didn't see it. From a pulp? Jack
  6. You are killing me BZ. Can't I least buy THAT one from you? Won't you feel better knowing you have made a poor old comic geek like me happy? Bill, if I were selling, I'd definitely give you first crack at it. (thumbs u Sadly......."if" is the middle word in life...... Actually, "crack" may be the most significant word in BZ's reply. Jack poorer and older comic geek
  7. I don't know, but I'd like to find out. Maybe he can post the rest of the story? Bwa ha ha .... only the first page is free. Scans were scavenged from www and the last page of the story won't dowload. No time to tweak all the scan for posting here (too big etc.) so I'll just give you the urls here: Page 1 ..... This should be the missing last page: Page 6 They were on CharltonGuy's discussion group -- CG, if you're tuned in, do you have the last page? It's a very loopy story! After reading it, if you know why the Klan would be after Dr. H, please let us all know! Jack Hey Jack! That one truly is a story for the ages. Not in my collection yet, but you can bet your sweet bippy that I'm looking... Here's a link to the entire story, posted by "malaprop" over at The Corral: http://www.comicscorral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2260&page=3 It starts at the bottom of page 3, continued right up to the exciting conclusion on page 4. The images are very large (but very good), so be patient. Enjoy! Thanks. The last page of the story about "The Thinker" from Popular Comics #60, Feb. 1941, is a broken link. This one: http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc164/nanapong1/01_12_7.jpg Some of the other links in the thread are also showing up as broken today, but I think I got those pages yesterday. For the insatiable, BangZoom posted another Dr. Hormone story on his Golden Age thread. Jack
  8. I don't know, but I'd like to find out. Maybe he can post the rest of the story? Bwa ha ha .... only the first page is free. .... It's a very loopy story! After reading it, if you know why the Klan would be after Dr. H, please let us all know! Jack Great stuff Jack. And heck, he is right down the road from you in Fort Knox, why not plan a little get-together? I was thinking the same thing -- maybe I can invite him up for a seminar about hormone replacement therapy. I'd have to check whether there's a Nazian Student Organization to raise a protest. Jack
  9. Who's the leprechaun-like character laughing with his hat flying off? Same character as "the Skipper" (Toonerville Trolley?) from #2, back of parade on #3, center of #4? Jack
  10. Are you sure? His new book may be graded 0.1 JPS

  12. Get to work or I'll post more Doctor Hormone! Surely I'm not the only one here who's read Jaka's Story. Jack Don't crowd, folks -- there are plenty of no-prizes to go around. JPS
  13. It says E.C. Stoner (Mr Phantasmo himself). Hah! In that case, we should be grateful for Marvel Man's miniskirt (and should not speculate about boxers or briefs). E. C. Stoner -- what a name for a comic-book artist! I think someone mentioned recently that he was African-American. Creator of Mister Peanut! Bibliography at Bails' Who's Who I wondered whether he was also responsible for Doctor Hormone -- apparently not -- and found some pages on-line. Utterly bizarre! Here are two splash pages, one by Ralph Carlson and the other by Bob Bugg. Master of Human Chemistry -- more Golden Age for my want list! Jack
  14. Doctor Hormone -- HAW!!! Just what those teen-age comic book readers needed. I wonder if any astute Legion of Super-Hero fans suggested him as a new member. Artist's signature on the second cover? What does it say? Thanks, Jack
  15. Don't crowd, folks -- there are plenty of no-prizes to go around. JPS
  16. Who was that convalescing comic-book fan? Jack
  17. Don't crowd, folks -- there are plenty of no-prizes to go around. Jack
  18. Gary sure gets friendly with his enemies while he punches them out. Great-looking book! Jon L Blummer -- an artist I don't know much about. Looks like (from GCD) he worked on early All-American, Sensation, Comics Cavalcade, Flash Comics, Green Lantern, etc., sometimes as Jon Elby. Also co-creator of Fighting Yank and later ACG artwork. He's emulating Lou Fine here? Jack
  19. ... Something different -- maybe we can attract some young'uns. At what address did Jaka purchase pomanay extract? Jack
  20. You probably would have had it in a nanosecond if you had been looking! I should have let you have it, since I'm not going to come up with a question tonight. Jack Looked at it and drew a blank on the name. Recognized the drawing style but had to wait to be home to check the name of the feature. You earned that one (thumbs u However, you got lucky on the Wonderworld because I was busy on your question but if it's another DC-centric question then I can wait longer to be able to participate AHA! We have discovered Scroogetonite! Jack
  21. I like the cab driver. He really stands out, doesn't he? Looks like Hartley drew a portrait of a celebrity or someone he knew. Does anyone know? Self-portrait? Probably not, born 1921 so he would have been younger. Could it be his famous father? Jack
  22. Wow! You hit the oddball jackpot. I don't know what's weirder, Martan's bouffant sleeves and mini-skirt, or his nubile partner staring at his head as she shoots a smoke-gun at his antenna! I like the sylized background, almost like Infantino used later for Flash, Adam Strange, etc. Toonopedia says that the artist is William Kent, but it might be a pen name. Bails' Who's Who offers: ALDERMAN, JACK BUGG, BOB (another pen name?) ELY, BILL KENT, WILLIAM STONER, E. C. Any idea who drew the cover? Jack
  23. You probably would have had it in a nanosecond if you had been looking! I should have let you have it, since I'm not going to come up with a question tonight. Jack
  24. Looks like Cliff Sterrett, 'Polly and her Pals' Jack (Noticed while replying -- the filename is pollyG22!)
  25. She grows a second head? Was that a new quick-answer record? Jack
