  1. Drucker would have been my next suggestion. You think he might be on the story, not cover, pencils? Celebrity humor books really are the fetid backwaters of DC collecting, aren't they? Thanks for looking. Maybe the GCD discussion lists will come up with some ideas. If not, I'll index with lots of questions marks. I hate doing that. Jack
  2. I'd call this a late Atomic Age book despite the 1957 date, but respecting the "traditional" Silver Age starting point I just posted some scans and questions over in the Silver Age 10¢ cover thread. Check over there if you're interested. Jack
  3. Here's one you don't see every day: Jackie Gleason and the Honeymooners 6, April-May 1957. It's a Gerber 7 and one reason you don't see it every day is that it's missing from the Photo-Journal. Here's what an in-depth user comment says on imdb (I'm no TV expert): THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW-(A Hour Long Comedy-Musical-Variety Show) Produced by the CBS Television Network which ran from 1952-1971. First Telecast of the Program: September 20, 1952 Last Telecast of the Program: September 12, 1971 The Black and White Episodes: 1952-1966 The Color Episodes: 1966-1971 ... "The Honeymooners" was made into a weekly series which ran for one season from 1955-1956,producing 39 episodes. ... Among the characters that were created by Jackie Gleason in addition to "The Honeymooners",among them Ralph Kramden, were The Poor Soul,Joe The Bartender,The Loudmouth,Reggie Van Gleason III,Rudy the Repairman, and Fenwick Babbitt. There's lots more detail at imdb. I just wanted to give a little context. Jerry Bails' Who's Who lists for this series only: ROY, MIKE DC COMICS JACKIE GLEASON AND THE HONEYMOONERS (pen/) 1956-57 NADLE, LARRY DC COMICS JACKIE GLEASON AND HONEYMOONERS~ (ed/) 1956-58 plus PEPPE, MIKE inking the St John series in 1955 Here's the cover. It looks a lot like Owen Fitzgerald's Bob Hope artwork to the world's worst art-spotter (me), but I don't know what Mike Roy's work looks like. The book opens with a Honeymooners story: Charlie Bratton, the Loudmouth: And more -- no time to scan them all: The Poor Soul (if I remember right, those were always pantomime on the TV show, and it has only captions here). Reggie Van Geason the III Mother Fletcher presents Stanley R. Sogg and the Late Late Late Late Late Late Show Charlie Bratton, the Loudmouth again It looks like the book followed the outline of Jackie's comedy/variety show closely. Any help on the penciler or inker? Jack
  4. . I've known more than a few mathematicians (my wife has a BS and started a MS in math) and that's a VERY unusual combination. Start, y'say? Congratulations to you and your daughter, and good luck converting your son-in-law. Jack
  5. Wow. It seems you work fast. In the span of ONE day, you've met her, married her, gone into business with her and they already are telling us stories about you guys. What can I say? That Jill is a cutie. That's because I'm fed up with that crazy step! Jack
  6. Thanks for more cover scans! Wasn't the 15¢ cover price a Dell experiment that failed in 1961, just before Gold Key took over the line? Take a look at the Mickey Mouse gallery at GCD, for example. The cover price jumps to 15¢ on #76. I hate the text box on #842! Fish are not animals? I guess the writer meant "mammal". Jack
  7. Nice pick-up Sharon! Yeah! Please let us know more about Sigh-Entific Studying from the inside cover feature. Jack
  8. The truth comes out. BZ is a closet Silver Age fan!!! And I'd enjoy seeing more Tarpe Mills and Lilly Renée [sp?] stories too. Jack
  9. Great color on that cover! (thumbs u I agree! I've always liked taht cover. Is the story inside as good as the cover? Yes, it is. You know that it's the story that Crisis on Infinite Earth was based on, right? Does anyone have a scan of the splash panel with the tidal wave? Unfortunately mine (3 ranging from an absolute beater to decent vg!) are miles away or I'd scan it. One of the best splashes of the Silver Age. It wasn't reprinted except in a digest for many years, but I think it's become available in a few places more recently. Jack
  10. OMG, you are right, she's premenstrual!! (see, I can say that, without fear of retaliation... I didn't dare try it. Does Black Angel count as a prototype? I don't think I'd give her that axe right now. I suspect that you won't really mind digging through the stacks again to find her. Jack
  11. I don't suppose it tells how much of each element is there -- that might be an useful detail. She and Daisy have that retort in their hotel room? It must have been a bear to pack. Is this [uranium Claim Jumpers] from Wonder Comics 11? Was Hedy Lamarr's scientific work known at the time this was published? (1947?) I bet it was. I wonder whether she partly inspired the character. What's with the little tease snippet of the page? Jack
  12. Well, heck yeah! I'm sure I could think of lots of topics to discuss with a science sleuth like Jill. But she and Daisy seem to be, y'know, VERY close friends. I suppose I'd have to entertain them both. Jack
  13. You sure can't accuse the Black Angel of being one o' them anorexic yet over-endowed superheroines that dominate the genre. Those thighs! That -- uh, occasional abdominal bloating! Jack
  14. sharon, you're wrong; check the eyelashes--that's a girl t rex! T Regina Jack semper ubi sub ubi
  15. Sweet Lucy!! "...weird creatures moving on giant suction-cupped wheels.." Yes, I think the odds are good. Thanks for the pages. Jack
  16. Whew, that sure ain't Schaffenberger's Lois! I'm so used to his version on covers that Plastino's (right?) is sort of a shocker. Jack
  17. Notice anything unusual about that planet Earth? Yes, it's the Neal Adams Expanding Earth Prototype Cover!!!!! Smithers, get me Bob Overstreet on the phone, stat! Jack
  18. Apparently those sentinels are from Ghana Jack (or Bolivia)
  19. Variant cover. It probably cost Jim about 8xguide but worth every penny. Jack
  20. Not hard to find since it was already on the CGC server! Jack
  21. 4. Mary Jane, magic dust snorter, consorts with a talking mouse. Jack
  22. What spear? The name "Moon Girl" always strikes me as toeing the line of bad taste! Has the character ever been revived? Jack she seems like a natural for Valkyrie's Lady Liberators
  23. I think that I know the secret of her great power. Jack S-s-sure, Torga. Anything you want...
