  1. Another Jack Lindsay photo circa 1944 The Post Office Newsstand at Granville and Hastings Street in Downtown Vancouver. Comics shown are Canadian Heroes V4 N3 Air Aces V2 N5 True 38 and WOW 21. Post Office Newsstand was a pretty fair newsstand, but looks rather shabby in this photo. I believe that because this was a federal building they got pushed out of their regular spot during the war. I have a few comics with their stamp on the back cover. The building is now a heritage building called the Sinclair Centre, however instead of cool comic books it's now focused on very high end fashion.
  2. I'll re-post Henry's photo because I forgot to give photo credit, The photographer was Jack Lindsay (1915-1994) , he and his family were nice enough to donate his photographs to the Vancouver Archives. They are public domain, so if there is any purpose to reuse the photo please honor Jack by crediting the photo!

  4. Another Canadian Heroes issue Vol 5 No. 2, I got ten of these from a nice fellow who discovered them a small town south of Prince George B.C., usually kind of a boring title except for the Canada Jack stories. I am always a sucker for dinosaur covers.
  5. Just posted, one of the few weca books that was not on the Grand Comic Database
  6. Here's a little time machine for everyone, a downtown Vancouver newsstand with brand new multiple copies of Commando 11, Funny 12, Rocket V2N9, Triumph 20, Real Life 19, Lucky V2N10, Canadian Heroes V4N2.. I have the Funny, Lucky and Canadian Heroes, I'm just going to pretend that they came from this newsstand.
  7. 'Snotless' luv it. And let's take a moment to appreciate this cover with a pirate and his parrot just hangin around Davy Jones locker while three monkeys with Moe Howard haircuts look on. Would love to have been at the editorial meeting where this got pitched.
  8. Three boxes of comics were literally on their way to the dump when the owners boyfriend convinced her to instead try and sell them to me. Among them all these six WECA books, lower grade but always great to save comics from disappearing forever!
  9. Recently posted this Lucky Comics to gcdb, the actual number is Vol. 3 No. 10 so it's fair to assume there is no Vol. 2 No. 10. Lucky has a very unusual numbering system. Since this was the first one listed and some WECA covers are still missing it makes one wonder about how low the (raw and slabbed) population gets on some of these issues.
  10. Several people wrote me, thanks! But sorry I was not looking to sell these, I was asked to and wanted to post them and I'll try and do more. At some time, and I 'm sorry that I don't always have more time, but I will try to post something interesting. In the meantime this bunch came out of an East Van basement two months ago. Of particular interest to this link is a Dime, a Joke and Two Lucky's (there is a punch line in there somewhere) but gosh, one of the Lucky's wasn't on the CBDB -. I'll write more but I don't know when.
  11. And another unbelievable Bell beauty - sorry it took so long to post
