  1. I just finished reading Les Daniels Five Fabulous Decades of Marvel. I may do a review of it on a separate post.

The book covers Marvel History from 1939-1989.

I was wondering if there is a similar book (with illustrations, not just text)  on Marvel from 1990 into the 2000s?

The lowest grade recent sale I'm seeing on GPA was a 4.5 in January of 2022 for $1,140,000

If it were me and I was in a position to take a serious shot at that book, I would contact a few dealers who are known to swim in those waters and humbly ask for their opinions.  And it would be a very short list.

Maybe even pay a consulting fee given the size of the investment we are talking about.

Out of curiosity is it raw?

I believe it is raw. He hasnt shown it to me yet. Its a person I do business with often so I have no reason not to believe him. I will have more info once he invites me over to look at it. May be a while.

Contacting dealers is a good idea. I was thinking to reach out to Heritage as well, but too premature right now.

The current age is always Modern. Copper and Bronze used to be Modern.

Obviously, comics from 30 years ago aren't current or Modern, but the problem is that those with influence in the hobby don't care enough to do anything about it.

now this is interesting..so there is a possibility it can be changed..

so my follow up to this is who decides or has influence? CGC the owners of this forum? that would make the most sense.

  4. This just dawned on me today. The modern age is now at a 30 year point. Is there an end in sight? what comes next?

Also...Until now the Age's were in Metal value order [Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper] It seems the next Age should have been Brass Age, then maybe Aluminum Age, then Iron Age etc..

These things keep me up at night.:eyeroll:

The market 'reset' as they say...I have noticed some leveling out and some small rebounds on lesser keys ...the major keys exploded during the pandemic, so they have a harder fall..but they seem to be leveling off. I saw a ASM 1 (CGC 2.0) auction off at 7400 the other day on Comic Link...down 30- 40 % from peak.,,but at the level it should reasonably be, given normal growth

A good observation tool is to look at the GPA graphs and draw a curve/line from prepandemic to now..you will still find an increase that seems to fit 3 years of growth, based on trendlines previous to pandemic

If you bought a major key during the pandemic ...you will have to wait awhile to get your investment back

do i need a subscription to view the gpa graphs? ive never used the site..

  6. Forgive me if there is a discussion on this already, you can just point me to it if there is...

Ive been selling books since 2018 and correct me if Im wrong, but Im seeing a downward trend in prices especially on major keys.

I just did comps on FF 48 49 50 from last year to this year and there is a significant decrease in overall value. Great for the buyer, not so great for the seller.

Any thoughts on why this is happening? And will this continue into 2023?

look just tell us how you got the books!  :pullhair:

ok ok -  A woman contacted me that her husband had past away last year and he was a collector. After her mourning period she decided to look into his large collection. With the help of some friends she was able to assess the value of the collection to a degree. She decided to test the waters and go looking for a buyer to take her top picks which are these 11 books. She found me because I have my name out on Social Media that I buy books. I will not disclose what I paid, but it was below market value and she knew it and was ok with it. We were both happy. Hopefully she will sell me the rest. She is not in a rush.

Cool books! However, if you're going to start a dedicated thread just to talk about 11 comic books you picked up, you shouldn't be surprised if people are looking for more of a story. Otherwise you could have just put them in the "This Week in Your Collection" thread.

that is a good point. I didnt know that thread existed. I dont come on these forums so often. Anyway to move it now?

  10. Just acquired this gem. This is a real bummer because if you didnt have those cutouts (5 total) this book would be a nice high grade. Pages are crisp and clean. Cover is vibrant. Im thinking this would make a great replacement cover for a restored book.

I believe some of the cutouts take away from the story panels making this incomplete. And yes, I do plan to sell it.

What do you think CGC would grade this at roughly?

Additional Question: If you were selling this would you bother to slab and sell or sell raw so someone can use it for "parts"?
