When will CGC set a standard for grader notes? I find it increasingly frustrating that one grader will provide notes for a comic they grade as a 9.6 (I assume because they think I want to know why it did not grade as a 9.8. Yes, I do want to know) and, another grader who does NOT provide notes for a book they grade as 9.0 or 9.2 (I want to know why on these books too!) Clearly, some graders are overworked and do not have time to upload grader notes and others have a lot of time since they can provide notes for a 9.6. CGC really needs to pick a standard, maybe any book less the 30, or 20 years old should be required to get notes if it grades out less than 9.6. I have sent in several books recently that I thought would grade out at 9.8 or 9.6 at a minimum but are coming back as 9.0’s with no explanation whatsoever. Not a good load for CGC.

  2. I still think the signings HAVE to stop! CGC announces what seems like 1 or 2 new signings every other week with a 6 week TAT. Definitely got to have an affect on the other TAT's with these books are getting bumped ahead of others. They should at least give it a 3 or 6 month break and see if there's any change in the backlog.

9 signings scheduled in March so far

7 signings already scheduled for April

  3. Maybe I read incorrectly but with all these signings that CGC seems to advertise every other week I thought I saw that they had a 6 week TAT?? If this is correct the fact that they do these significantly has to effect the TAT's in general does it not? Why continue to do these if it does, I know $$$ but one would think if the signings were suspended until they some what caught up they could alleviate this backlog in turn getting more submissions out the door and more cash coming in? Or maybe I'm just dumb.(shrug)

No! it's not, I have a 12 mag sub that was delivered 20th Jan, still not in the system, I just think they please themselves what they decide to open.

CGC charged my CC for this submission they just received I thought they didn't charge until ready for shipping? Is that correct or is this new?

  5. I see what looks like 3 small color breaking spine tics and can't tell but looks like maybe something going on by the bottom staple it's difficult once slabbed and it sucks there's no grader notes, I've said it multiple times here I feel every book deserves notes regardless 9.8 or lower it's the very least CGC could do.

    Sure, fair enough.

Just curious: on the back cover of the #252, are these smudges on the book or on the case?

Maybe I'm seeing things but it looks like a small chip at the edge of the cover by the INTELLIVISION  just to the left of the yellow car also looks like some small spine ticks maybe 3 or 4??

  7. I'm going to say 8.0-8.5 if your lucky, I just received the same book back would've bet it was a 9.8 it's pristine no ticks no dents no finger prints I never even read it when I bought if off the rack back in the day and they gave it a 9.2 due to a nearly impossible small scratch on the back cover that's only possible to see if you tilt the book a certain way.

If it goes a 9.2 let us know I'll crack my case and resubmit.

This needs to change. Grader notes should be a MUST and included as a PDF in an email or paper copy when return shipping.

What he said! Waiting 5-6 months for grades only to have no idea why books are graded is just plain lazy.

    Good morning,

Thanks for your message.  Payment is due upon receipt of your order not when it is completed.  The turnaround time of your order will vary depending on the grading tier you selected.  Each tier has a different turnaround time.  You can find all of our current times here: CGC Services & Fees | CGC (cgccomics.com)

Please contact our customer service department with your submission number or order number and we can check the status of your order for you.  You can reach us at 877-662-6642 or by email at submissions@cgccomics.com.

    Thank you!

Well this is interesting, my last order was delivered to CGC the first week of May and has been "Scheduled for Grading" since 6-23 and my CC was charged on 10-1 that doesn't make sense based on this answer????

Yep I understand. but the slow down seems to be the grading process which I can understand. You can't just throw someone in there and hand then someone's valuable books. I am guessing it will probably take a while to train any new employees especially for grading. Even though I have years of grading comics under my belt I am sure I would have to go through a pretty specific training just to make sure everything is done on a consistent level.

I have already started sending more books. Most go through pressing first then they are hand delivered. But i do have some that I will tell them to look at but probably don't need any pressing. That way all of the books are hand delivered at the same time. But even though it gets processed and billed it does not speed my order with CGC up at all. Right now I have mailed about 20 and I have another almost 30 sitting here ready to go and another 100 sitting at the house.

I agree that grading a book takes time, but teaching someone to grade just Moderns shouldn't be that difficult. Hell opening a box shouldn't be that difficult either but sitting for 2 months before being touched is absolutely ridiculous. Also I double checked my last submission and it was received the first week in May so I'm at 115/116 days now and I believe the TAT was around 90days when I sent them in so go figure.

  11. Not only are they sending slabs back in unacceptable shape I recently saw where they graded a book 9.8 charged the sender and then returned it raw with other slabs. QC at its finest.

My oldest order was received May 28th. Took two months just to open the box and process the order.

I am about a 7 to 10 days from the 105 day turn around time. I then have two orders that were dropped in person on 07/09/21.

Plus a signature series that was done through one of their associated companies and just waiting for them to turn it around.

same boat here my last order was received in late May as well and my CC was charged a week ago and my status still shows "scheduled for grading" which it's been since the middle of June so who knows when I'll see them. I have around 50 or so more books I want graded but I just can't justify these delays and I'm still under the old cost discount until early next year but it's just a waste at this point. I guess the 75 or so new employees aren't helping speed anything up just yet.

    that'll never happen

Agreed, and I personally think it's going to get worse. Blackstone is going to want to get their money back and quickly so I think that CGC will turn into the grade all company toys, sneakers you name it what ever you want graded they'll do it.  The days of quick turnarounds are over unless we pay a premium that is.

  14. When I spoke with CS I specifically asked about the lead time since it's taken 4-1/2 months to get this back and I was told 10days turnaround time for the reholder so I guess I'll see....
