  1. Mystery “The Shadow Knows.” Rubber stamp, 1930’s? I was going through some odds and ends to put on ebay, I always assumed this stamp was part of the Shadow radio club promotion, but I have not been able to find an example online to corroborate this. The radio club stamp says ”The Shadow Club”. It is not part of any Shadow premium or merchandise sets based on the contents listed in period Shadow related advertising. Is this a real Shadow item? Its not a 70's knock-off, so what is it? The care with which it was made, the condition of the wood and shape of the object itself always persuaded me that it was vintage. Perhaps someone knows. As far as I can remember I acquired this when I was buying pulps (mainly Shadows when I could find them and Burroughs pulps), Sunday sections and some ephemera as a small sideline to collecting Golden Age comic books in the 1970’s. As a kid I worked in a comic bookstore on weekends in Seattle’s Pike Place Market and I think I just bought a bunch of things and it was included with Pep and Tracy pins. I also don’t have a stamp pad, so sorry about the lousy impression.
  2. So many great books, but I think this wins. I love St. John, I almost think this cannot be in private hands........
  3. Ha! Good thing I bought low, time to unload. Now to talk down pre-Robin Detectives and get in cheap. I'm glad you like it, the cover captivated my imagination like few others did, It took along time for me to find one. Pre-internet.
  4. Perhaps Pre-Simon and Kirby books are not exciting, it was a collection of "also-rans," but if there are Meskin Vigilante stories the early books might be good buys. Superman, Batman and World's Finest also had lame covers, particularly after 1943-4. As far as later issues, Star Spangled #19 is one of the greatest covers of the Golden Age. Though not usually mentioned in surveys I've seen.
  5. Thanks all, great things to wake up to. I'll DM you for details and my Paypal. ETC. As difficult as it is to part with great comics, I'm glad to sell them here.

  9. I’m offering some books I bought in the 1990’s. Two Crippen collection Lou Fine Smash books and a White Mountain copy of Two Fisted Tales # 27. I confess I’m not used to leaving the confines of the Guide, but particularly the two Smash Comics have color and page quality that deserves a little extra bump. I mainly collected Golden Age in the late 70’s when I was a teenager, so I trust those books. But I did get back in to collecting during the late 90’s for a few years, I was out again after I kept finding that the Golden Age books I really wanted were repaired/fiddled with. I have submitted some of the better Golden Age books I bought in the 1990’s in case I missed any restoration. Luckily among my submissions only a Marvel Mystery came back with light repairs to the back cover. But it would be the Marvel Mystery. You can check out my rep on eBay, under edencam (my two kids names, not my only fans moniker). My last sales on eBay were in April. Though I have an EC up now. The usual, US buyers please. Paypal only. Will be shipped USPS Priority, free. With-in three days. No returns, they are what they are.
  10. I'm going to offer a few books this site. But I can't figure out the pricing on this book so I put it on eBay. Though there are a lot of high grade copies, they don't come up often. Anyway, I hope you take a look. Tough grading by CGC! https://www.ebay.com/itm/334123032067
  11. Thanks, I am wondering if that lower right on the back cover is replaced? Anyway it looks like a much better grade, even given the rounded corner and little issues. I trust all the golden age I bought in the 70's, But I thnk all the better books I bought in the 90's are going to have to be vetted. Luckily the other, so far, have comeback as untouched.
  12. I mainly collected Golden Age I the late 70’s when I was a teenager. But I did get back in during the Mid/late 90’s. I was out again fairly soon as I kept coming across repaired/fiddled with books. It is easy to spot color touch up, but the worst was one long-lusted-after book that I bought from a very well-respected dealer that reeked of chemicals right out of the mailer. That one I returned immediately. This trend eventually turned me off collecting entirely. One 90’s book that I had faith in was a sharp looking copy of Marvel Mystery #47 that I recently sent to CGC, along with a few pedigrees and some other GA’s and EC’s (all bought in the 90’s) that I am thinking about selling. This was my first submission to CGC. So, MM47 came back as repaired. crease bottom of front cover crease top of back cover large crease left bottom of back cover tear left center of back cover tear seals top back cover C-1 I am OK with the surprise category change, It is what it is. I re-read, but I did not critically examine the book before sending it, otherwise I would have seen the seals (I presume). C-1 is slight but amateur – the 90’s! So, my question! On the slab listed notes it just reads “Tear seals to cover”. The repairs in the grader notes say the seals are just on the back cover. Just saying “tear seals” is misleading as everyone is fixated on covers in our current slabbed environment. The cover is untouched, shouldn’t that be noted if one is going to place it in a restored category? Anyway, I am also confused, would the book be a VG without the tear seals? It’s better than apparent Fine. Even if not perfect.
  13. Henceforth known as "Iron Man Blue" IMB's are now a rare variant. We have only a day or two to hunt for them before news reaches the world at large.
  14. The Condor stories are great, plus the Gustafson Spiders. It's sad that these will be missed in the future because of slabbing. Even I succumbed and slabbed two of my Smash Comics recently. I still think quality is undervalued, but the house-style covers don't help. Quality is frustrating..... Congratulations on the Crack!
  15. I'd be happy to have that page. He is a much better artist than almost anyone in the discipline no matter what decade. But if I was going to split hairs...... another time perhaps.
