Actually, the first appearances were not Marvel Super Special 16, they were in the Marvel paperback edition of Empire Strikes Back which came out before MSS 16. Of course, most collectors want Star Wars 42 instead.

Not that I would ever do that, anything I want to get slabbed is because I want them to stay in a slab, but I thought it wasn't too uncommon that people just send stuff to get graded and then immediately crack it and keep the label handy.

It's very difficult to determine trimming from a scan. Based on the pictures, it looks miscut.
