  1. X-Men 160 is a fill-in during the Cockrum 2nd run (145-164) before Smith took over; it's also a major story pivot for Illyana (though she's not on this page, so unlikely a large factor). $6500 is perfectly acceptable and understandable to those specializing in this area, neither high nor low. I think it would be listed for $8k or more on any major dealer site. This was an anomaly and somebody got a deal
  2. Yes. And those two paintings sold in June 2000. Love Gun was Ken's record for a very long time after. https://www.kissasylum.com/kissauction/highlights.shtml
  3. All true. But does the artist work at greater than print resolution? That's likely, particularly if there's any vision toward future larger than a comic book output -banners, posters, etc. If so, the artist's "master" file is superior and all others are possibly/probably stepped down, and notably so, in quality. This is a nuanced argument here, but if this end of the hobby ever matures, the distinction would probably add/change value. Further, a consideration for digital artists that want to separate their product out from the rest - maybe put that higher resolution file to work by outputting in a manner that nobody else (publisher, printer) but you can do, higher resolution, larger than original (comic book) print size, etc. And then, not such a bad idea either...
  4. Yes. The activities of the frantic mover and shaker class gets tiresome, even from a distance.
  5. As good a time and place as any to post this: https://www.ftc.gov/legal-library/browse/rules/mail-internet-or-telephone-order-merchandise-rule
  6. A better question: what is the guarantee?
  7. I was content two decades ago. While I've never stopped collecting at a pace that leaves most breathless, it's no longer goal oriented, just pure fun.
  8. Somebody friendly with Howard Chaykin should get his one-sentence evaluation of both Trimpe Wolvie and Miller DKR1 cover. And the then, if he hasn't already left the room in disgust, bring up anything else that's hammered for more than $10k
  9. Two sentences that say it all. A 61% ignorance tax and there's less "art" today than there was two months ago too. The market, above $100 for any/all fadeaway art continues to amaze me.
  10. Exactly. "Quality" on the block. Headscratcher.
  11. My low/high estimate was $1800-$2500. I think that's what it would do at Heritage, naturally the usual ComicLink buyer's market discount applies. But even so - $1300 is what it should have done at least.
  12. It's not my place to explain why The Quantity Theory of Money is a red herring, it will be apparent in time anyway. Instead let's all agree this consignor is not happy, but the buyer sure is.
  13. I think it would be more cool to find one of those 1986 boards with art published in 1982 on it 😉
  14. There’s so much baggage in this hobby, someone should open up an outlet store…oh, wait, never mind…
  15. Correct. Which begs the question: if the future is so obviously rosy, for collectibles/hard goods, why is anybody and seemingly everybody...selling quality? The market keeps bringing art, pieces I consider objects that defy "pricing", to auction in exchange for "filthy lucre". Okay! Fun times My thoughts long-term have been shared here and elsewhere before, but short-term, hey, nothing goes UP!!! in a straight line.
  16. Is it possible that Marvel (and to a lesser degree DC) didn't have exactly the same demanding hiring/firing/salary cap requirements as MLB?
  17. Certainly, Heritage calls those European Comic Art sales.
  18. Upon similar analysis I did just that on Tuesday, in part to grab 5% eBay Bucks promo too before it expired. In hindsight, I could have waited one more day and saved another 1.5% on the exchange. Depends on what you consider "long" but my sense in there's a few months at least of opportunity here.
  19. Theater. All theater. Just like comics, except much less interesting.
  20. I didn't know "comic art" on CL was "on" until I got the "day of" e-mail telling me lots were beginning to close at 8pm ET. Yeah, whatever. I still didn't bid (just couldn't be bothered), but I gave HA Sunday 9 hour marathon over $1,000 of my business, just how it goes.
