Thx so very, very much. Yes, I used to own this one for many, many years. It hung in front of my computer desk. I bought it from Bob Selvig when he used to be at ACBC. I sold it to Ferd in Canada many years ago. I will keep an eye on that piece for sure. Let me know if there are any Lou Fine Hit covers, Crandall National covers or the cover to Jungle Comics #1. Sorry for the confusion. Matt Baker did no Ace covers. I was talking about things I used to own that I am interested in rebuying again. The Baker covers I owned was Seven Seas 5 & 6.

Not sure on Allentown. That collection surfaced after I had amassed most of my personal collection back then. When I was originally collecting, the term pedigree had not been used. The collections we had heard of were of course the Church (Mile High), the Reilly (San Francisco), Cosmic Aeroplane, Larson and Poughkeepsie.

Did you hear that ComicConnect in their last auction had some Ace horror cover art up for auction? I forgot about it until it was too late. By the time I remembered they were all ready up to auctioning off Walking Dead art which both of us care less about. I wanted to try and get those horror covers. I used to own a few of them before that I wanted to rebuy. Wonder what they went for. I was willing to spend a bunch for those, darn... I doubt I will ever have a chance to rebuy the Lou Fine, Reed Crandall or Matt Baker covers I used to own.

Love how CGC changed the site. Since I was multi-tasking at the time, it took me awhile to figure out where they had moved the chat board link.

Having the Church copies scattered to many different collectors is neither good or bad. I believe that most of the Church copies being offered by Heritage are from Rose Verzyl from the late John Verzyl collection. I'm sure she has a huge hord including all the Timely issues. The positive spin on the market for the future in having them scattered among many collector's means there is no possible threat that a large collection of these will flood the market ensuring their future values.

I like Bob's (Overstreet) comment to me. This entire genre would probably not exist if EC did not happen. When they got going, there were many companies that tried to pile on to the success EC was having.

Not as far as I know on that issue. However, there is one issue of that title that there must of been a find at one time. What is the first horror comic book Bob? If you say Eerie 1 by Avon, you would be wrong. How about Classic Comics 13 - Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde. That is definitely a horror comic book, and it was published approximately 4 years before Eerie 1. Then how about the Hunchback of Notre Dame, 3 Mysteries by Poe, and of course the classic Frankenstein. All were published before Eerie 1

I thought there were a few Gaines copies of VOH 12. Just checked the census and there are 54 universal copies certified.

Also tough is the CSS 15 (#1). I've seen the Shock 3 a few times, but it is still rare. My best friend Johnny (John Knight) has had them before. I will agree the toughest to me is the TOT 1, it is rarely offered for sale.

I have seen quite a few #1s. I have a 9.6 copy in my collection. Haven't seen the same amount of #2. I would not consider three #4s a large amount. Given that everything is pressed nowadays, I'll assume these were 7.0 or higher upgraded to those grades. The Baker cover issues are definitely much tougher to find because of desirability. Not sure if any issues other than #1 are more common.

No warehouse finds on these books that I know of, but I'll agree they are more common than other issues in their titles. Guide modifications are definitely needed on Congo Bill. I was thinking of bidding on a #4. When I went to check if any were offered on eBay I found 8 of them offered. That is definitely not what I would call scarce.

EC books are not scarce or rare with a few notable exemptions. The books were bought of the stands and treasured from that time unlike most other books. They are as popular today as when they were first published. I have had a few collections of EC books offered to me that were bought off the stands, read once very, very carefully and stored as one might store a valued treasure. TFTC 20 and VOH 12 would be equal in availability long term as far as I know. CSS 15 (#1) much tougher and a high grade Tales of Terror Annual 1 is very tough. Remember the Gaines file copies, and those issues that were never offered in the Gaines collection.

My problem would be that I haven't handled all the pedigrees in a raw state. For me the 2 that jump out are the MH and the SF books.

Yes, I still have a few MH books. Unfortunately, I did not consider what I enjoyed, but rather the grade. Anything below 9.2 has been offered for sale at some point. If I had it to do again, that would change to what I liked the most. None of my MH books have been pressed. I can't tell you how often I see MH books that I know were a 9.0 to 9.2 now graded 9.6 or 9.8, sad. But, that is the way of the hobby/business. I guess it doesn't matter if they are pressed, because the books are now encased in plastic and are not readable any longer. For us old timers, there was nothing like the touch, feel and smell of the MH books. That now seems to be gone forever...

You are correct on the 2-10. Chuck had them at a SD Con many years ago and offered to me first. I passed since they all were not the unbelievable MH books like the rest. They all had 2 pencil lines down across the cover. Chuck's grade on these Sups was FN. None of them were graded NM or NM+. If memory serves me correctly, I think John Verzyl bought them.

That's the guy. Only problem I have had with the comic art forgeries is that the owners of those forgeries never sent them to me in exchange for the return of their merchandise. I only hope that these forgeries were destroyed and not sold to some unsuspecting collector. That was the brunt of my argument to Maggie Thompson to get the story published.
