Yup. As evidenced by the price of a 181 vs 180 book. There is a premium for nostalgia that we are more willing to pay for. So regardless where and how many times Gambit appeared before, 266 will always be the prize if someone wanted his first appearance. Would be cool if the pages for 180 and 181 both come up in the same auction, then we would really know...that 181 would blow 180 out of the water.

If I'm not mistaken the original art for 181 was destroyed in a house fire.

I think my opinion is actually lower of the people who actually buy the book vs the ones who started it. If it’s really a bad idea then no one will buy one, end of story, but if these actually sell what’s that saying about the current people in this market?

Yes I get you can call out bad optics for CGC which it probably is but what about anyone who buys one? This could only be a purchase as a joke for someone but I wonder if it actually works and sells?

I'm not too sure about that. Out of the thousands of people who read Bad Idea comics, I'm sure they can find 30 or 40 not too bright people who think they are getting some "rare collectible". Especially with all the press.

But for the most part, I have no idea what they are even singing about. Butter pie? The butter won't melt so put it in the pie. You got it!

This may be arguing semantics, but thats a solo Paul Mccartney song. I still get what you mean though. Dig A Pony is probably a better example.

  4. I've always wanted to get that issue signature series'd with Paul Mccartney's autograph. As for my opinion on the Beatles, Elvis's popularity was already beginning to wane when the Beatles came along. And the Beatles still have a more active fan base than Elvis. As a younger person I can say there are definitely people my age that listen to the Beatles, and even more who appreciate his music. I can't say the same about Elvis. Hey Jude? Let it Be? Day Tripper? Here comes the Sun? A ton of people know all these classics.

  5. He was definitely a necessary character in the early Hulk issues. He was the only one who knew the Hulks secret, and was a friend of both the Hulk and Bruce Banner. Also Rick Jones was an orphan, and Bruce Banner had an abusive, rough upbringing. Therefore I've always felt that Bruce felt like a kind of father figure to Rick. I've never found him annoying per se. And he at least serves a purpose in the Hulk books which is all that I know him from.

The other thing to consider with this particular book is that it appears to be a single staple book. Many books from the late golden age period were only stapled together with a single staple in the middle of the spine.  That makes it incredibly easy to make these detached.  The cover condition looks to be in wonderful shape, and with something like a single detached staple, how they decided to do a 5.0 on what would normally be a 4.5 top grade book.

Not only that but is there a possibility that the book never even had the middle staple put in?  If I'm remembering correctly older books had a tendency to have missing staples pretty often. Maybe its just a printing defect. In that case I don't think it should effect the grade.

Marvel age 12 is where that pic is from December 1983 release date on that.

Yea. Im a huuuge Secret Wars fan so I have 2 copies of that issue and have had more in the past. There are a handful of magazines that predate even Marvel Age 12's prototype. One of those is an Amazing Heroes issue (edit: 35) Which i have. And you or someone else mentioned another earlier.
