  1. Once again, I wanted to thank everyone that made it out to the 1st LA Ultimate Comic Art & Collectibles Show last Sunday. We were pleased with the results of the show – most dealers seemed to be making money and the collectors appreciated having easy access to a top notch line up of exhibitors/art in a relaxed environment. There were many people en route to San Diego, but also others who weren't going down to the show and were excited to be able to get a shot at buying the variety of material in the room. We’ll continue to gather feedback on how we can continue to improve, but we received overwhelming encouragement to continue the show. So, please save the date for the show next year on Sunday July 14, 2019! Details to follow. For those that couldn’t attend, we wanted to give everyone a little feel for what it was like to be there along a deeper dive look of the art that was brought out to the show. Check out two videos we produced re-capping the show: one focused on the dealers at the show and one focused on the artists. These videos are just one more thing we wanted to do to make this show a little different. They can be found by going to the show website (www.UltimateLAShow.com) or you can link to them directly here: Dealers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LpM8h5ppoY&feature=youtu.be Artists: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bMdVK9I-Ao&feature=youtu.be Again, thanks to all the dealers and collectors that supported us. And for those that couldn’t attend, we hope to see you next year! -Chuck Costas
  2. Thanks Glen - Thanks for setting up with some great pieces for sale. Sounded like all that attended were excited about the great selection of art in the room - many of the dealers from SD with the new items they were showcasing + some others that don't normally set up. For a first show, we were happy with the results and were glad to create an atmosphere where dealers and collectors could interact in a relaxed environment. We want to continue to get feedback from everyone, but it looked like the dealers were doing good business and there were enough of the right people coming through the door to make it decent for all. As far as sponsors... don't forget Prop Store. The Prop Store team handled a lot of the behind the scenes logistics to make the show happen and also will be releasing a video this week to give people who weren't there a peek into the day and the art that was brought out to the West Coast. Look for that to come out soon! And I'm not working with Prop Store to roll out the comic art offerings that will be part of their annual September Entertainment Live Auction. You can see pics of that in other posts here on the Boards. It will be hosted as a live auction from London, but all can bid - in advance, online live, or over the phone.
  3. Gerhard's Moments of Cerebus Sale is off to a great start. In the first hour, 11 of 20 pieces we are offering were grabbed by eager collectors. But, nine pages are still available - and some are the very best ones. Take a look at the list below. If you like a page, but don't like the price, we're always willing to consider offers. But, we'll be waiting until Monday to consider offers below the asking price. Anyone who is coming to the LA Ultimate Comic Art & Collectibles Show tomorrow can see the remaining pieces live and we'll consider offers there. One more advantage of coming to the show if you can make it! Thanks to all those who tuned in for the sale. Midway through the sale the CAF site crashed - hope it wasn't our little old sale that did it (sorry to Bill Cox)!
  4. Don't forget to tune in for this sale tomorrow morning (Saturday) at 9AM PT. All you have to do is keep refreshing your screen on the ComicArtFans and you'll see a bunch of Cerebus art pop-up! Then, be quick with your fingers to tell me you want it when you do see the piece you want. And, let me tell you, if you're a Cerebus fan, you're bound to find at least one (maybe a lot more) pieces that you'll want to add to your collection.
  5. If you've been on the fence about buying your tickets, advance ticket sales @$20 will end tomorrow (July 12th). You will be able to purchase tickets at the door, however that will cost $25. So, better to purchase in advance if you can.
  6. A couple more announcements before the show. 1) Aspen Comics and Nostalgic Investments have joined us as exhibitors at the show 2) The Frank Cho/Gerhard exclusive Jungle Queen print has been colored and will be available in both B&W and color versions at the show!
  7. We thought about trying to schedule something formally, but hard to do. What I suggest is that there is a bar in the Hilton and people can congregate there the night before.
  8. Glen @glendgold - It shouldn't be related to the number of tickets (unless someone accidentally ordered all of the remaining ones). If you send me your contact info., I can have someone from Prop Store call you to process your credit card manually and ensure you get a ticket. Go ahead and send me a PM with the best way to reach you and I'll make it happen. And if anyone else has any issues, let me know!
  9. I will be in SDCC as well as the LA Ultimate Show - you can find me at the Prop Store booth most regularly in SDCC, but will also be wandering around I'm sure.
  10. Thank you. Yes there will be art dealers set up at the show with the primary goal of selling. Some are also going to San Diego (but you'll get a preview here) and some are only setting up at this show. Dealers include: Anthony's Comic Book Art Albert Moy Original Comic Art Aspen Comics Cool Lines Art Genesis West (Mike Thibodeaux) Heroes & Legends Illustration House Koch Comicart.com Lee Benaka Pacific Comics Panel Page Art Saul Zimmerman Original Art Steve Wyatt Stuart Ng Books TDArt - who will be sponsoring Marco Galli at her booth Tom Coker Hake's Americana & Collectibles will also be set up to showcase their auction offerings and IDW Publishing will be on site to scan artwork for future projects. Special thanks to Flesk Publications who will be sponsoring Mark Schultz as well as Wendy and Richard Pini at their table. Other artists include Frank Cho, Gerhard and Jim Silke. Frank and Gerhard will be releasing the attached exclusive print at the show. Finally, for a little West Coast twist, we have some original movie/TV prop dealers in attendance to give a little variety. And, if you're into books, you have the Torpedo Comics Collectors Convention next door. All together, there will be over 40 exhibitors!
  11. Tickets will be available at the door, but if you know you'll be flying out, I'd suggest you just buy a ticket in advance. They are still on sale through July 12th online. No need to wait until the day of the show.
  12. One more add to our artistic lineup at the LA Ultimate Comic Art & Collectibles Show! Announcing that Marco Galli will be appearing at the TDArt table.. Marco “Madman” Galli started as an inker in 1995 with a small company called Mushroom Comics. Later that year he became inking assistant for inker Joe Weems working at Harris Comics, then moving with Joe over to Top Cow and inking some of their biggest titles, such as Weapon Zero, Darkness and Fathom. He has also inked solo for numerous publishers and studios, which include: Liar Comics, Top Cow Productions, Chaos! Comics, Lucky Bamboo, Crime Lab Studios and Devil's Due. Some of his book credits include: Aphrodite IX, Civil War: The Initiative, The Gift, Ghostbusters: Legion, Elektra, Spawn, Incredible Hulk, The Crew, Forgotten Worlds: Exile, Forgotten Worlds: Homeland, BloodRayne: Skies Afire, Venom and The Unforgiving.
  13. Yes, it was all on one piece of large Bristol board. I remember that one of the word balloons was pasted on, but everything else was very clean - something you don't see all the time.
  14. I owned that Surfer DPS for a short period in the late 90's, until I got "an offer I couldn't refuse" for it. I didn't appreciate Kirby as much then as I do now. Was a beautiful and large piece.
  15. For those that may not peek over at the Original Art Marketplace threads, I thought I'd draw your attention to this one where the attached image is being offered...
  16. I have a few items that Mike Zeck did for me to offer to fans. I picked these up from Mike at the Denver Comic-Con a couple of weeks ago: 1) 1985 Punisher Posters with Large Head Sketch Remarque - Many years ago I turned up a small collection of file copies of the original 1985 Punisher poster. I'm sure many of you had this on your wall. This image was originally intended to be the cover to the first issue of the Limited Series, but Carl Potts liked it so much, he decided to issue it as a special poster in advance of the series. I had given these posters to Mike a few years ago and he finally got a chance to draw remarques on each of them. On each he drew a 5" x 6" Punisher head as pictured. Each poster is in VF to VF/NM condition and comes rolled. Great for framing! $140 + $10 Shipping in US. 2) Rare G.I. Joe #200 RIB Variant with Snake Eyes Sketch - This sketch cover was drawn by Mike on on Sunday, June 17, 2018. What's extra special about this sketch cover is that it was drawn on an extremely rare copy of G.I. Joe #200. This variant (RIB) was done specifically for Herb Trimpe so that he could draw sketches on them. Unfortunately, Herb passed away, leaving 79 blank copies behind in his collection. This is one of those copies. It is in NM/M condition and is rather valuable in and of itself. $400 + $10 Shipping in US. Please send me a PM or e-mail me at comiconxion@hotmail.com if you'd like to reserve either. PayPal or check accepted. If you'll be in the LA area and prefer to save on shipping, all items can be picked up at the LA Ultimate Comic Art & Collectibles Show/Torpedo Comics Collectors Convention that will be held at the LAX Hilton on Sunday, July 15 from 10AM-5PM. For more information, go to www.UltimateLAShow.com and/or www.TorpedoCon.com.
  17. Glad you liked the exhibit... the organizers have talked about making it an international travelling exhibit, but it's going to be in Seattle until January. So, people have the rest of the year to see it. There are plans for an exhibit catalog, but it isn't out yet... will hopefully be out before the show wraps in Seattle. As you can imagine, Marvel leant most of the costumes/props to the exhibit, however this exhibit was very reliant on collectors to make happen. Dave Mandel (Veep Showrunner) and Eric Roberts were the two major lenders, but other collectors including yours truly (those were my Punisher pieces), Ben Saunders (the curator), Jim Halperin, Rob Klein, Dan Lanigan, Kelvin Williams, and others leant to this collection to make it as spectacular as it is. And, as tax payers, you should be proud that the Library of Congress also leant a page from Amazing Fantasy #15 for the first few months of the exhibit.
  18. Given that this is intended to be a preview of what the dealers are bringing to SD, the focus was to get as many dealers there as possible, leaving less room for services like CGC. So, CGC won't be there this year, but potentially down the line.
  19. Yes, there isn't a formal ticket to print, but bring your receipt to the show and we will check you off and issue you a wristband when you get there.
  20. You get checked off at the door - saves having to line up and go through the registration process at the door.
  21. Yes, you can purchase tickets using the following link until Thursday, July 12th. http://www.ultimatelashow.com/tickets.html Advanced tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. One ticket gets you into both the Torpedo Comics Collectors Convention and the LA Ultimate Comic Art & Collectibles Show which will be taking place at the same location - the LAX Hilton on Sunday, July 15th from 10AM-5PM.
  22. A couple exciting announcements about the show: 1) We have extended the advanced ticket price of $20 until Thursday, July 12th. You can continue to purchase tickets online at http://www.ultimatelashow.com/tickets.html until that date. After that point, you can only buy tickets at the door. Door price will be $25 - so get your tickets early and save! 2) We are proud to announce two more classic creators who will be appearing at the show courtesy of Flesk Publications: Wendy and Richard Pini. They will be appearing between 10am-3PM at the Flesk Publications booth. They will be joining other guest artists at the show including Frank Cho, Gerhard, Mark Schultz, and Jim Silke. Wendy Pini is the co-creator, writer, artist and colorist for America's longest-running fantasy graphic novel series "Elfquest." She has worked for every major comics company, has written and painted two "Beauty and the Beast" graphic novels based on the original TV series, and has birthed a critically acclaimed 400-page dark, futuristic reimagining of Edgar Allan Poe's "Masque of the Red Death," currently in development as a Broadway-style musical thriller. Richard Pini is the co-creator, sometimes-writer, and full-time editor for "Elfquest." He has also written books on the art of Alex Schomburg ("Chroma") and Wendy Pini ("Law and Chaos" and "Line of Beauty"). A graduate of MIT in astronomy, and a planetarium writer, lecturer, and teacher, he has written outside of comics on the wonders of the heavens and on the challenges of running a successful two-person company for over 40 years. Stay tuned for more announcements as the show approaches... what are you doing the Sunday before???
  23. Since Gerhard's "Backgrounds in the Forefront" Sale had such a overwhelmingly positive response, we wanted to say thank you and follow up with another sale in which we'll be offering another 20 pages directly from Gerhard's personal collection (that's it though for the year). This sale we've titled "Moments of Cerebus" as many of the pages will feature Cerebus (or other main characters) on them at different points in Gerhard's run - from Church and State to the Last Day. The sale will kick-off the day before Gerhard's appearance at the LA Ultimate Comic Art & Collectibles Show (go to www.UltimateLAShow.com for more information). Pieces will begin to be sold at 9AM PT/12PM ET on Saturday, July 14th. I will run the sale the same way that I have run the previous sales by listing each piece one at a time over the course of an hour through my ComicArtFans gallery (http://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=179126). Orders will be accepted on a first come, first served basis - so when you see a piece you want, e-mail me a comiconxion@hotmail.com. Please feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions.
  24. Yeah, enjoyed our discussion on the Joes last Heroes. That's why I love to help Mike out at shows at least once a year, you meet some great people and can talk about comics and comic art all day long. Hope to meet some other folks in Denver and at the LA Ultimate Comic Art & Collectibles show on July 15th (Zeck won't be there, but Gerhard will be who I also help from time to time).
  25. Although I was at Heroes last year, I'll be staying West this year and attending the Denver show that's the same weekend. If anyone is coming to Denver, come visit me at Mike Zeck's table. We'll be there! Sorry I won't see friends at Heroes.
