  1. Yep, that was me - pizza guy! Thanks to everyone who waited in line on Saturday at Zeck's table. We weren't expecting the line to be that long. Hopefully all that came by had fun talking with Mike. Everyone was very nice that came by.
  2. The #1's are the large staple variant variety.
  3. I've talked to Mike Zeck a number of times about the creation of the black costume over the years... Mike was the original creator of the black costume design and was paid by Marvel for his designs. He created them in advance of Secret Wars since it was a planned reveal later in the series and they wanted to start drawing it the month Secret Wars #1 hit the stands. Alas, the original artwork for that design (which had a slightly more alien looking head) hasn't shown itself since its creation and was never published anywhere. The design that was published In Marvel Age #12 was a rendition that was done by Leonardi to share with other creators. Mike always intended it to be B&W. As he will tell you... that's the natural color scheme you'd choose if you were design a costume based on a spider. And no, that napkin drawing isn't Mike's. Mike knows how to draw feet!
  4. Oddly enough, it seems you can still buy this great remarqued edition directly from IDW for the original price of $250. But, it's luck of the draw which of the four different remarques you get inside. https://www.idwpublishing.com/product/mike-zecks-classic-marvel-stories-artists-edition-hc-signed-numbered-remarqued-variant/
  5. I'll be there with Mike Zeck. Please stop by his table if you're going.
  6. This year, we did not get a room block as there are multiple hotels that people may want to stay at. You may want to try the W Hotel or Hyatt which are in Hollywood near the Palladium. You may also be able to find something less expensive closer to LAX from which you can take an Uber into Hollywood. Hope that helps.
  7. We've actually expanded the tables to 8 ft. tables and each dealer could buy what they needed. So, hopefully, everyone will feel like they have plenty of room to show their wares.
  8. The link to purchase advance tickets and the list of dealers that will be in attendance is now active. Hope to see many of you there this year. We like to think it's the best comic and comic art show you can attend anywhere for $10 if you like to buy items for your collection. https://torpedocomics.com/products/torpedo-comics-collectors-convention-attendee-tickets-july-14-2019

  11. Hadn't seen this before, but really like it.
  12. The Torpedo Comics Collectors Convention will be taking place in Los Angeles the "the Sunday Before" San Diego on July 14, 2019 from 10AM to 5PM. This year, the Comic art portion of the show (formerly known as the LA Ultimate Comic Art and Collectibles Show) will be rolled under the "Torpedo Comics Collectors Convention" umbrella. So, people will get a preview of all the great collectible comics and comic art being brought into town for San Diego in one location. This will be one of the best opportunities all year for you to buy and sell comics and comic art without all the costs of a big show! Those on the West Coast shouldn't miss this one and it's worth flying in for! Location: Please note that the location for this year is changing... We are moving the show from the LAX location to a larger location in the heart of Hollywood! This year's show will take place at the Hollywood Palladium (6215 W. Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90028). This is a much larger location that will provide more dealer space and allow the show to grow as collectors continue to find it. Pricing: The good news is that the pricing on Admission and Parking will decrease this year and parking will be easier with an adjacent parking lot right next to the Palladium. $10 Admission and $10 Parking. Here are some of the fine comic art dealers that have already signed up to attend. More comic book and comic art dealers to be announced in the coming months. 15. Mike typically does head sketches and remarques of the Punisher at cons, but you need to get on his list early on the first day. Typically, his list fills up pretty quickly.
  16. Having been the person who noted the extra large staple variant, I can't say I've noticed a broken staple trend. I think I saw one with only a single staple once. This is likely an isolated thing.
  17. The #2 cover was owned by the Donnelly's many years ago (who bought it directly from Trimpe), but then it was sold to a private collector who has yet to want to share it more broadly. If IDW ever decides that they want to print a G.I. Joe Artists Edition, it will be printed there (it was solicited as the cover), but there hasn't been any new news on that front.
  18. Bechara had the #3 & #5 - both from Bob Hall. As far as I know, none of Mike Vosburg's (including the #10) have ever surfaced within the last 25 years.
  19. I'm surprised that these books have become as collectible as they are. I believe these were the brainchild of American Comics. They invested in having all the first copies of Miracle Man shipped over from the UK in time to sell them for SDCC. From what I remember, a lot of the copies were damaged in shipment and most had that printing defect shown above. These certainly helped pay for expenses that year. I believe they were also involved in some of the other great marketing efforts of the 80's - the Limited Adventurers #1 cover (the first retailer incentive cover) and the reprinting of G.I. Joe #2 along with Sunrise Comics (prior to that Marvel didn't reprint specific books).
  20. Very nice piece. I love how these early covers are pretty much the same size as the actual printed books.
  21. Yes, that looks like Sienkiewicz - similar to the signature for the sketch cover he did for me on the rare Herb Trimpe TF #100.
  22. Alright, as 2018 comes to a close, I got a special gift from my friend Gerhard. He was able to finish up the sketch covers that Ben did for me in San Diego. As Gerhard always likes to challenge himself, he took a completely different approach to the sketches this year than he did for the ones he finished for me back in 2016. What do you think?
  23. 24. Hey guys... the auction was this year's (2018) Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction. You can find the results here: https://sam.propstoreauction.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/138/?page=1&key=&cat=1767&xclosed=no And, yes, the price with Buyer's Premium is £116,850 With a 1.3625 exchange rate at the time, that comes out to roughly $159k.
  25. Thanks Brian - We're right at the edge of Malibu so they cut off the PCH in front of our house, but didn't have to evacuate. Hopefully the winds will keep it from spreading South. I did re-locate most of my art to different locations around the city as a precaution. That's one of the downsides of having a large collection of stuff. My suggestion to people in case they are in an emergency like this - keep your art in binders so it's easier to move. The larger framed pieces have been the toughest to move on short notice!
