  1. Several pages of the third issue of Rocketeer Adventure Magazine found their way into the market, probably sold by the various people who had helped Dave meet the deadline on that issue (Art Adams, Sandy Plunkett and others). Not saying the auction is legit, or not, but yes, there are pages out there. Dave had also sold a few pages of art over the years when he was in need of money. He told me he had sold the original cover to Comico Chistmast Special because he needed cash to pay his income tax. Many pages were recently sold from this story by the Estate - first in France and then through Albert Moy's website. The page was part of the recent sales. Albert still has a few if people are interested. This story had assists from artists like Kaluta and Arthur Adams. The pages that haven't hit the market are from the first Rocketeer story although there are a couple pages that were given away that may be out there.
  2. #12 had 4 versions - most had a 1,000 copy print run except for the Tick Society version that had 2,000 copies. The 1,000 print run variants were distribute at distributor conferences that year. Gold limited edition Omnibus was first printing of the first six issues. Each had a quick head sketch insider by Edlund The 2-color variant only had one printing - had a cheap newsprint cover.
  3. The funny part is that I think I'm the first guy to ask these guys to draw Transformers in years.
  4. I took some of the Transformers #100 covers that I had gotten for myself and commissioned the first three cover artists to work on the original mini-series to do sketches on them while at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. Cover Artist to Issue #1 - Bill Sienkiewicz Cover Artist to Issue #2 - Michael Golden Cover Artist to Issue #3 & 4 - Mark Texeira It was fun interacting with the artists to get these done. Seems few people know that Mark was the penciler for #3 and Carl Potts was the inker. In the back of the book, Mark documented his and Carl Potts' contribution to these books. Here's the proof for all those interested: I got these mainly for fun... if anyone is interested in picking one up, drop me a PM, I'd be open to discussing... except for the #1... that's a keeper.
  5. When Kevin was leaving LA, I purchased copies of #1 (2nd printing), #2 (1st), and #3 (NYCC Variant) from him. When I got the #1, I was a little disappointed because there was one stress mark on the front cover, but then I opened it up to find a 2nd NM cover. I couldn't have been more surprised (and happy).
  6. I wanted to let everyone know that I'm officially done selling the special Herb Trimpe blanks of Transformers #100. The 5 which were on eBay sold on the last day of the listing. Congrats to all that got a copy and look forward to seeing more finished sketches on the covers.
  7. Dan - That Perlin commission is fantastic. Glad to hear that Don is doing better. He's the person I really wanted to get to sketch on one of these. Glad to hear that may still be a possibility. Update on copies that are still available... 9.0 or below (5 copies) - $30/Each (all 7.5 to 9.0) - the set of all 5 is currently on eBay for $149.99. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRIMPE-ESTATE-Lof-of-5-Transformers-100-Blank-Sketch-Cover-Herb-Trimpe-Variant-/331874065078?hash=item4d453c5ab6:g:mtIAAOSwbYZXVHoi 9.2-9.4 (5 copies) - $40/Each Since I have all the remaining copies in my possession, I ask that people send the Postage to me and the payment for the books to Patricia. Include $7 for shipping for up to 5 copies. I'll be selling copies for one more week. After 7/5 you will no longer be able to get these books. So, if you have been thinking about getting one, now would be the time to do it. -Chuck
  8. It was rumored years ago that Primer #2 was reprinted without any kind of designation that there was a second printing (similar to Shuriken #1). Has anyone ever been able to identify differences in copies that may support this theory? With Shuriken #1 there are some differences on the front cover that are easily recognizable.
  9. All of my pages are probably too late or inconsequential to the project managers. Only page I have that may be of interest to them is this one from the last issue of the Marvel run: Thanks for the offer. It's great to get offers of help from other collectors. This book will be limited to the stories mentioned in the press release along with some additional covers for the cover section. Focusing now on collecting scans of pages that would help complete issues #1 & 2,
  10. As a BTTF fan, love the one piece that Yoshi posted. Any others? If people still want copies of the rare Herb Trimpe blank cover edition of TF#100, here's what remains and revised pricing (since we're getting down to the last copies): 9.0 or below (10 copies) - $30/Each (all 7.5 to 9.0) 9.2-9.4 (5 copies) - $40/Each 9.6 or higher (6 copies) - $50/Each Include $7 for shipping (sorry the Post Office prices went up since last year). If someone wanted all 21 copies, I'd sell the lot for $25/each or $525 for the lot including shipping. It's great if you want multiple copies or want to buy them as an investment. Keep them coming! -Chuck
  11. Cool find. Here is my blog about that comic (and the other 2 comics in the series): http://swcomiccollector.blogspot.com/2015/04/retro-foreign-indonesian-star-wars-part_6.html Indonesia has a plethora of unique Star Wars comics. Quite informative! Need to find more of these!
  12. I reviewed this whole thread and didn't notice one of these posted. I just picked it up. I was in Indonesia when Star Wars came out so this special variant has special meaning. What's crazy is that the cover and entire issue were redrawn by Jan Mindaraga. This is one of the most unique comics I've ever run across. Rarer than the 35 cent edition?
  13. If anyone out there has original art pages or covers they may be able to contribute to this book (especially from issues #1 & 2), feel free to drop me a line. I can help make sure they get to Scott Dunbier for this project. Should be a great book and the ultimate book for G.I. Joe art collectors!
  14. Marvel Super Action #1 and Marvel Preview #2 were all new new Punisher stories in B&W magazines that appeared in the mid-70's. The magazine format allowed for a little more violence than were seen in the pages of Amazing Spider-man at the time. So, Marvel tried it out... guess it just didn't stick.
  15. I just realized that this was pointed at a comment I made a long time ago. The original set that was graded by PGX was controversial for a couple of reasons: 1) The staples on them don't match the other known sets. It looked like someone disassembled a regular set and then stapled them from the front. One theory was that this was the set that was used to make the counterfeit Yellow covered copies. 2) From what I remember (and it's been a few years), faded areas on the front cover didn't match to the other known copies out there. It was never quite clear how PGX knew what an authentic set of Gobbledygooks looked like so it wasn't clear that they could actually differentiate between first generation originals from second generation fakes. Both of these things made the original PGX set suspect. I'm not sure how many other sets they've verified since then, but I always found it more reliable to show them to Kevin or another person like myself that's seen multiple sets of these books and seen the variations of how they were printed.
  16. Speaking of G.I. Joe - does anyone know why there is a "large staple" variant of the Direct Edition of G.I. Joe #1. Is it recognized as an official variant? If not, perhaps it should be.
  17. This just got posted in the upcoming February ComicLink auction: http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview%2Easp%3Fcode%3D2016feb%26itemtype%3D1%26pg%3D2%23Item_1100844&id=1100844
  18. Thanks to all of those who ordered copies - hope you're enjoying them and I can't wait to see pics posted of the final sketches that people get. I'm back from vacation and had a chance to go through the remaining copies of the Transformers #100 books and I've separated them by grades. There were actually a few more nice copies than I thought - so if you held off wanting a nicer grade copy, you can order away! As some people may not always want the top graded copies, I will offer different prices for copies in different grades. Here's the new pricing tiers: Top Tier Grade: from 9.4 to 9.8 (most 9.6) - $30 (11 Copies Available) Mid Tier Grade: from 9.0 to 9.4 (most 9.2 or 9.4) - $25 (26 Copies Available) Lower Tier Grade: from 8.0 to 9.0 (most 8.5 or 9.0) - $20 (11 Copies Available) Shipping is only $6 for up to 5 Copies (sent Priority Mail envelope with cardboard reinforcement) Also, for anyone that wants to purchase 10 or more copies (mix or match grades), I will offer a 10% discount. Hopefully everyone so far has been happy with their books and the grading - I tried to be pretty strict as I graded the ones above - hope everyone receives better grades than they expected when they get them graded. Also, I wanted to clarify what the "smudging" on some of these covers looks like. I've attached a pic below of the copy with the WORST smudging on it (so it doesn't get worse than this). It's very faint, but if you look closely, it looks like grey specs. I graded this one in the Lower Tier. So, if what you see below doesn't bother you, you have nothing to worry about. And, as I said, when an artist sketches on the book, you likely wouldn't see any blemishes.
  19. Thanks for the healthy response so far. I just wanted to let people know that the remaining copies I have will have some degree of light smudging on the cover. But, I'll try and pick out copies without any spine damage or other imperfections. If you get them sketched on, it should cover up these imperfections, but if you would get them graded "as is,' they likely wouldn't come back at 9.6. So, just wanted to set the expectation that I'll send the nicest ones I can, but they may not be perfect.
  20. All - if you order one, please include $36 total and send all of it to Patricia. Send your shipping info. to me, but not the payment. Thanks, -Chuck
  21. Thanks Dan. My estimate is that there were 100 of these printed. At the time of his passing, Herb had 70 copies remaining. This may be your only way to get one. If someone is interested in multiple copies, feel free to reach out. My hope is that these will end up in the hands of collectors that really want them and/or are used to create some great sketch covers! Please contact me to confirm shipping. I typically use Priority Mail flat rate envelopes with reinforcement. Shipping via that method would be $6. If someone wanted multiple copies shipped, I'd use a Priority Mail flat rate box. -Chuck Costas
  22. Having watched the Zeck market for a long time, I think that particular sale of an unpublished stylistic Batman was an outlier, but I would say that in general, the Zeck market has been creeping up and will continue to do so steadily overall.. Some signs: 1) There have been some notable higher than expected sales in the last 1-2 years (like the Punisher piece that was used as the cover to the 2005 sketchbook which was old years ago as a simple eBay pinup for much less), and 2) where I used to be the buyer for most key items, I'm seeing other people entering the market and paying more than I would. And, for most of the auctions in the last few years, I haven't bid in the auctions so there are other people taking my seat at the table. As most of the key A+ Zeck pieces are now locked away in "black hole" collections, I would expect to see prices on the B+ to A quality pieces escalate more and more (what was $5-15k will now become $10-30k). That I would say will be new normal. But, I wouldn't expect that B/C level stuff to escalate as much as we saw in that recent auction.
  23. May be time to add A-level Liefeld New Mutants pages with Cable and/or Deadpool in the $3-5k range.
  24. That is a killer cover. I like this cover as well - I figured out why... it seems to be an homage to Zeck's Cap #286 cover with the character that Zeck made popular - the Punisher. Wonder if that's what Sienkiewicz had in mind or it just turned out that way.
