  1. I posted earlier in this string maybe 2018 is the year I turn to DC. Then these books came along just now and I fell back into my bad old ways . . .
  2. I have struggled in choosing between Tec 168 or Cap 2 as my next pickup. The Joker is blazing hot right now and Caps 2-10 seem sorta cold right now. Maybe it’s time for a reversal. I like that the Cap is a Hitler classic cover but I think Simon’s Captain America looks a little, well, dorky. I’ve been a non DC guy, but maybe I’ll change that in 2018
  3. I was feeling good when I woke up this morning, but all of a sudden I’m feeling a little inadequate
  4. I fight that same temptation. ALL.THE.TIME. So happy to hear someone else struggles with this. I have about 15 books, and I fantasize about making it 1. Someone else talked about how unfulfilling it would be, however, to have just a single book, and I have to agree with that as well. so refreshing to hear others articulate the demons in my head. Thank you!!
  5. You picked the right one! That spine has no wear on it, at all. Wish they were all like that!
  6. Richard, I like the way you choose your words. Ok, I’ll go there and see if I can figure it out. Thanks!! And, by the way, I miss you coming to Dallas back when we had our stupid little rinky-dink shows
  7. I’ll apologize in advance, because I’m sure this must have been covered somewhere. But my question is about all the big books out now that have blue labels, but note “Very small amount of dried glue on spine of cover”. Isn’t this restoration? Has CGC relaxed their standards? How does the market place judge these books? How do we view this compared to a blue label book, same grade, but without the glue?
  8. This may be the wrong forum, so I’ll apologize in advance. But my question is about all the big books out now that have blue labels, but note “Very small amount of dried glue on spine of cover”. Isn’t this restoration? Or has CGC relaxed their standards?

  10. The Tec 168 hammered at $19k. I looked and thought about it, but I’ve had unhappy surprises before out of Comiclnk when they don’t post pics of the back cover. There was a little piece of paper sticking out from the spine of the Tec 168, which made me wonder what kind of problems a back cover scan would show. I know I should ask for a scan of the back, and I usually do on books I’m interested in, but just spaced it away this time. Truthfully, I didn’t want to spend that kind of money anyway, and have to go thru the requisite few nights of sleeplessness over my own stupidity when I pull the trigger on a big book(big to me, anyway).
  11. That All Winners 19 looks high grade. I don’t understand how this book has remained so undervalued. With All Star 3 and Avengers 1 exploding upward, I think it can only be a matter of time before this book gets its due. I’ve watched this book for years, and the highest grade I’ve seen come onto the market in all that time, from all the major auction houses or eBay, has been a single 7.5. Other than that, there was one 7.0. Greg Reese is currently advertising a 6.5. That’s it. Everything else is lower grade. I may have missed one somewhere, but it seems to me that the guys holding these books in higher grade must be holding onto them for a reason. What do you guys think?
  12. Thanks lou_fine. It all makes sense now . . . I think secretly you boardies are all super heroes
  13. Don't get me wrong, I know Hong Kong is one of the premier spots on the face of the planet . . . But How are you able to acquire comics in such a remote spot?
  14. So you live in Hong Kong, how interesting. Is there any comic interest there, or are you a lone wolf in the wilderness?
  15. I didn't realize that many high grade Superman 17s had come out recently. That's gotta be why the low response: buyer fatigue. I don't know how the Silver Age and Bronze Age market overcomes the fact that there will ALWAYS be a Incredible Hulk 181 9.8 available AT ALL TIMES, as well as Amazing Spider-man, etc. I prefer a sector like the Golden Age where you're lucky if you EVER see certain books. And yes, you're right: Worlds Finest never does get much respect, does it? I agree about how auction timing can make all the difference in the world. It may just be my imagination, but I don't like auctions that end at the end of the year. I think people are too focused on Christmas with their families and have less discretionary income. I think auction in March - May tend to bring collectors roaring back, and personally think that is the best spot. I really hate that CC and CL auctions overlapped like that. Consignors have no clue what other auction houses are doing when they send off their books. Hell, I don't really know for sure the true auction dates of my own auction house when I send them off, let alone what other auction houses may be doing. I sure don't want to be trying to sell at a time when multiple auction houses are also bringing down the gavel at the same time. I personally think that was a colossal mess up with CL and CC finishing at the same time. And one more thing: is it just me, or does it seem like as soon as one auction house offers a rarely seen book, triggering mass interest, and then very soon another auction house will offer the same book(s) in higher grade? Like the Jon Berk collection, followed closely by the Heritage Centaurs. It's like someone is testing before bringing out the high grade stuff.
  16. No, I got a 4.5 Science 2 from Heritage. I was overseas when the Heritage auction for the MH copy finished. I contemplated hard between the MH Science 2 and the Tec 35, and right or wrong, saw a brighter future for the Tec 35. They have no internet access in China(its still a communist country, believe it or not) so I was forced to leave high bids before I left. Well, I missed on the Tec 35, and now wish I'd bet the same money to the MH Science 2. Oh well. I'm about at the end of my buy cycle. I'm going to put away the books and try TRY to unplug from the comic world and forget the whole thing. I'll peek out again in a few years, if all goes according to plan, and see what's what. I feel blessed to have been in the comic hobby. It's the best hobby EVER
  17. I am new to the Boards, but by the time I got here, I had developed an appreciation for early AMFs just by looking thru Gerber. It seems like the Centaur collectors here are a very close knit and friendly group, generous with sharing their time and knowledge. Do you guys know who you all are in real life? Or is this like a masked ball, where no one knows anyone? Did you know Jon Berk was a Centaur collector before ComicConnect moved his books thru auction? Was he, too, a Boardie? How about the consignor of the recent high grade Heritage AMFs. Was he a boardie? I'm sorry for these beginner questions and hope they aren't too out of place here. I'm embarrassed to even ask, and hope I'm not violating protocol or common sense by asking. Regards, Clark
  18. I never said thanks for the welcome. I gotta say I'm shocked at the knowledgeable and sensible people i see here. After toiling away in isolation, learning what I could about comics, this is a breath of fresh air. You asked why I bought the books I bought, but I really don't have any reason to offer for going after the V2#3 other than, behind V2#1, I simply liked it best. You're the Fox collector, right? I just picked up a copy of Science #2 in a Heritage auction. I can't get over how cool that cover is. Regards, Clark
  19. I had a similar thing happen to me at Heritage back when a few thousand bucks could still buy a low grade More Fun 73. I had bid more than the gavel price and couldn't understand what happened. When I called up for an explanation, the higher-ups simply said "Tough". They were really about that gentle and caring with their response. Pissed me off. But damn it I still do business with the wankers.
