  1. Right. They’re still good prices for anyone who bought prepandemic
  2. Quite. That’s a loss of over $100k in just a coupla years. Gold is not immune
  3. anyone with the wherewithal to gather these books ain’t likely to be dumb or unaware of market conditions. I like to think the sale of these big books simply marks the end of someone’s odyssey thru the collecting arc. When the thrill is gone, just let em go, no matter what the music is doing at the time. But then again, of course, I can’t discount the “ominous” part of your query(as the world moves toward electronic images and away from good old fashioned printed media, the effects will blow back on the funny book business, blah blah blah) and as AJD says below, I don’t think we know yet how the market is going to treat these high grade big books. The Action 1 seems to be doing just fine. The 9.2 Cap 1 is still low, but the slugfest is just warming up
  4. Last time this sold, this exact book was sitting at about $140k until the last 24 hours, whereupon it popped to $270k with BP. I guess we will learn something about current market conditions soon enough
  5. the irony here is inescapable. I always thought Bob got into book trouble due to his desperate attempts to fund his daughter’s medical needs, and I admired him for his strong sense of responsibility to family. so it’s only fitting that it’s come to this. im happy to give, same as to jimjum
  6. This is crazy. But I guess it represents the dual nature of the human condition. Bob was so driven to preserve comics history that he would tape his interviews of the greats, and he should be lauded for this. That the same man was also capable of this conduct to you, KirbyJack, is astonishing
  7. Ok the fact no one has asked for my opinion is no deterrent here. I must say this blows my mind . . .
  8. There’s only 9 on the census, but they are falling from the trees here
  9. I actually posted it here without identifying it as a win. It’s the Matt Baker cover doing his own “Uncle Sam” version
  10. Well it ain’t romance, but it IS Baker. I’d never noticed this book before today’s PBA auction
  11. Sorry you missed it woo woo. Is Ian the consignor? I’m sorry for my ignorance, but I don’t know the backstory
  12. You may be right. would have bid on that had I been sure. The auction catalogue itself made me aware there’s some controversy there.
  13. People willing to take the “Oops, I’ve now got 2 Actions 1s” risk
  14. I hear ya. I’ve seen and owned those labels before. I just never knew it meant multiple tear seals and multiple color touches, all on the same cover. Foolish me thought it was one and done(which is still too many for a blue)
  15. You got this from the man, the legend, the ultimate comic guru, Gator! I leave my New Force stickers on too, as a sign of respect. And yes, this copy of Bat 11 is a great one
  16. Yes it does. And that’s why Clink is the perfect selling venue for it
  17. I was about to bid on this one, because that front cover is beautiful. But of course no back cover is posted, which is worrisome. so i went to CGC, who now posts both front and back covers on their newly graded books. and there it is: the back cover. I think this will go better in someone else’s collection
