6.0 with stain, also seems to be some waviness on back - Looks like a great candidate for a press
-
I think a 7.0
Looks like a lot of spine breaks. Love the color and sharp corners!
-
I’m 4-5
a press will make it more attractive, but probably not get you a lot of grade improvement ... the spine wear is the killer
JMHO, I’m still working on my grading ...
great book, I’d love a copy this pretty!

All the ones I’m posting this week are getting CGC screened, pressed and slabbed, I’ll post the results on each thread
BTW seller graded it 9.0 ... I did not pay a 9.0 price!
I do hope it comes in higher rather than lower, but you’re right, it doesn’t change the book and I think it’s gorgeous. I love how rich the colors are, for example, the green in the top left logo is such an interesting color, my other books from that era are more faded and it’s really neat to see the color in all its glory

If pressing can remove all of the waviness, I can see a 7.0 coming out of it. Getting it CGC'd?
Yup
Sent it off last week. Definitely my best silver age book. So nice I’m a little concerned it’s been restored...

Interesting.
TBH I’m thinking (and hoping) higher. Fwiw it is getting pressed, so I think the waviness on the top of the cover will be gone. The spine ticks jump off the photo are less noticeable in real life ...
Fingers crossed! As always appreciate the help. I’m definitely a better grader from doing this ...

the pages look alright I would give this a 2 at best at worst 1.0 could be even higher than 2 I doubt it though still a very iconic comic and a great comic to own if I were you I would keep it no way I would sell that if it was a gift from your dad.
Definitely NFS, just curious how to grade it ...
im really close to a complete UXM run, never would have happened without dad buying me this ... I want to say he paid 140 in the early 80s. Seemed like a lot for a rough copy, but it was the only one I ever saw and seems like quite a bargain today!

I appreciate the feed back. Going to sell this puppy and objective opinion is quite helpful! I also need to work on my own grading skill, so this is a helpful exercise!

I had a similar experience, except it was more personal - books that I bought off the news stand and carefully stored for 30 years came back stupid low. 4.5 to 9.0. Books that were carefully selected and NEVER even read and nothing over 9.0 ... a 4.5? I can barely talk about it.
I remain quite disappointed. It does seem like they are pressing for their other services (see what I did there?lol)
as a seller I certainly see the value in their product - no one seems to ever say “they over graded this book”
I’m still deciding about grading my other books, also considering sending some of these back for the clean and press routine to see what I get
I do NOT provide a grade on eBay, clearly someone expecting CGC standards isn’t going to like my grade - high res photos and a description of every flaw I see with a vague assessment of “high low or mid” is as far as I feel comfortable ...

The metal tracks are a great idea. I wonder if you can go to the next size up for tracks and put some sort of padding to prevent any damage? Or maybe just the graded sleeves would be enough to protect them from unwanted scratching.
I like the idea of a slightly wider track. Maybe lined with something? Like felt or some other slightly gripy fabric?

I'm clearing out several long boxes. Most are bronze age marvel read once, bagged/boarded and boxed. Mostly raw. Just had some I consider high grade slabbed, came back anywhere from 9.0 to 4.5. Your milage may vary
No reserve, ship at media rate and I combine shipping.

I put up 5 shelves like what is pictured that holds 4-5 slabbed comics in my den. So i have about 20-25 comics displayed. I rotate them every so often, depends on my mood and if i picked up anything new. I store the rest of slabbed comics in the BCW bins, out of the way.
i put UV film on the french doors that lead into it, its the only source of daylight. Here is the link for UV film:
No one goes in there without me. I only show friends if they ask nicely..lol.
I agree with most, I feel the need to display them as pieces of art. I know they still get some rays but its minimal i believe. I am thinking of putting SPF-40 sunscreen on the cases
That looks great!
I am in the fortunate place of having a couple of rooms that are very dark and I'm going to fill 2 or 3 walls with comics. So far his guy has the closest thing to what I'm envisioning. I'm a little concerned that the metal tracks he uses might scratch the slabs over time (there is vibration in this environment - that 5150 can move some air! \m/)

The proper environment for paper storage is far more important than whether or not it's entombed in plastic.
What defines “the proper environment”?

Good to know, being physically insecure is not acceptable.

Anyone display their slabs?
i know that this exposes the books and slabs somewhat, but to me the point is to be able to see the books to enjoy them...
I have a studio/game room in my basement and I want to decorate the walls with my collection.
It’s dark most of the time, climate and humidity controlled (45% for the guitars)
ideas to mitigate the exposure? Secure display shelves?

bend top of back cover
crease full left of back cover
crease right top of front cover breaks color
multiple denti didn’t scan before sending and don’t have them back yet, so no pictures at the moment
even the ones that came in high (9.0) seem kinda low. I had multiple copies, one was carefully read, once, bagged and boarded =5.5 The other was never read. The nicest copy on the news stand 30+ years ago, never even opened, carefully put in in Mylar and that =9.0 ?

I just got my invoice,
Suffice to say ... I'm disappointed. I bought these books fresh and bagged and boarded them that day. That day.
One scored as low as 5.5. I get it that mint might not be "mint". But fresh off the boat and 5.5? Come on. I was thinking of slabbing my collection, selling the excess. Now? Meh. Tell me I'm wrong, I bought a comic book 30 years ago, put it in a bag and its a 5.5? I'm not feeling objective ratings, I'm feeling upsell me high graded book that is no better than my book.
Convince me. Cause I think this my last CGC submission
PGM UXM 3
in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?

Im actually interested in the nit picking.
I see great color, no wear, glossiness, a couple of tiny spine tics and the aforementioned and hopefully pressable waviness at the top.
TBH I’m 8.5
i don’t get 5.5 at all, but I’m here to learn. What do you guys see?
