Look at the attached grading tiers photo. How else can this be interpreted, other than the maximum value a comic submitted under the Express tier (only tier below Walkthru) is $3000? Joe

I am planning on submitting an issue from the Edgar Church (Mile High) pedigree. I have a certificate that verifies that this issue is from the Church pedigree. If I submit this book to CGC, I assume that I will need to include the certificate. However, I DO want the original certificate returned. If I send this book into be graded with the certificate, will CGC return the certificate? If they won't return the certificate, would they accept a photocopy or a scan of the original certificate? I'm sure someone will say, "Just ask CGC." I have e-mailed them already. However, I find that I often get answers faster from knowledgeable board members. Anyone have experience with this type of pedigree submission? Thanks in advance for your time and consideration. Joe Ankenbauer

It was my understanding that any book worth more than $3000 has to be dropped off with CGC, either at their Sarasota location or at a comic book convention at which they are in attendance. Am I incorrect? Joe

show us your Mile Highs (Edgar Church copies)
Math Teacher replied to Cpt Kirk's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Could you elaborate on these two pedigrees? I am interested in learning about the various pedigrees. And yes, I have read the summaries on the Comic Book Pedigrees website. Thanks! Joe Ankenbauer -
This is actually the first cover I thought about for a recreation by Joe Giella. However, when I checked the Grand Comic Database, I saw that this was inked by Murphy Anderson. I thought it would be insulting to Joe if I asked him to recreate a Flash cover by another inker. So I decided to go with #113 instead. Joe

show us your Mile Highs (Edgar Church copies)
Math Teacher replied to Cpt Kirk's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I just purchased this from ComicConnect. It's Dead Eye Western v2 #4, and it's from the Edgar Church (Mile High) pedigree. ComicConnect says "VF (8.0), White pages, Glossy!". It is raw however. I have always wanted to own an issue from a pedigree, So, I figured I might as well get an issue from the most famous pedigree of all! Joe Ankenbauer -
I bought a CGC 4.5 copy of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos from Adrian at the end of last week. It arrived on Thursday, and it was meticulously packed. I think the package could have been thrown down a set of stairs, but it wouldn't have incurred any damage. All in all, it was a very pleasant transaction. I would gladly recommend Adrian to ALL board members. Joe Ankenbauer

Is it worth it???
Math Teacher replied to rein2222's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
It would be easier to answer this question if we knew the issue in question. A key issue versus just a regular issue would make a difference in how I answer "if it's worth it". Joe Ankenbauer -
My First Submission!
Math Teacher replied to Jimmy Daniels's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
You won't get grading information until you see GRADED change to Shipped/Safe. This can take a day or two, but you will definitely get this information before you receive your books. Joe Ankenbauer -
It's just a color printout of the cover. I find a good image, and I then take down to Office Max to have it printed off in color. For the original art that I have, that is the general way I display each one. First the artwork, then a reproduction of the cover (or the actual page of the comic), and then a little blurb about the artwork (issue, original artist(s), recreation artist (if the art was a recreation), and writer (if necessary). I think it presents well - of course, YMMV. Joe

Well, as you can see, this artwork was completed in July of 2016. Also, if you look closely below the Trickster's right foot, you can see Joe's signature. I got in contact with Joe through a third-party (but for the life of me, I can't remember who or how). I ended up talking to Joe on the phone for about an hour! Anyway, I had to search to see what covers were done by Joe, and then I had to narrow down to one cover. I'm a big fan of all of the Flash's Rogues Gallery, but I ended up choosing the Trickster because I just loved his crazy outfit. It was Joe's idea to color it - I was originally interested in just the line art; as you can see, Joe knew best. And, the rest, as they say, is history. I feel very fortunate to have gotten this piece from Joe! Joe Ankenbauer

Seeing your copy of The Flash #113 compelled me to post this picture. It's a cover recreation of that cover, drawn and colored by Joe Giella. I hope it doesn't offend anyone by posting artwork in a comic forum. Joe Ankenbauer

I would be willing to spend over $500 for a book I like. Joe
-
Well, I mainly collect Silver Age, but I would be OK with a Golden Age book. I prefer super-heroes, but I would take a funny animal, cowboy, or war issue if it came from a pedigree like Edgar Church. Joe

I have always wanted to have an issue from a pedigree. I would like it to be from a pedigree that is well-known (at least to me). I don't really care which issue I get (within reason). So, I'm looking for a recommendation. I'd like to get an issue from a well-known pedigree without breaking the bank. Can anyone recommend a great pedigree where I can buy an issue for a (somewhat) reasonable price? Thanks for your time and consideration. Joe Ankenbauer

Show us your Heavy Metals (Metal Men)
Math Teacher replied to Comicdey's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
This is not exactly a picture of a Metal Men comic, but I think it's still germane to the thread: METAL MEN #1 - COVER RECREATION BY MIKE ESPOSITO I will dig out my slabs of Showcase #37 and Metal Men #1 in the next day or two. Joe -
PGM FF5 *** Grade is in ***
Math Teacher replied to ned's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
From my viewing, it's not your imagination. I see at least three (3) missing pieces that were not there when in comparison to the original picture. Joe -
CGC collecting questions
Math Teacher replied to Jay1721's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I bought two boxes specifically designed to hold CGC-graded comics from Amazon. I got two boxes, which are supposed to hold 35-40 CGC-graded comics per box, for $30 with free shipping. Graded Comic Storage Boxes with Lids Plus 4 Tall Comic Book Dividers I certainly don't work for Amazon - however, I was happy with the product I received. I don't know if this is a good or bad price; when I searched for CGC boxes, this was one of the first results. Of course, YMMV. Joe -
What is your monthly budget for comics?
Math Teacher replied to Lord_Knikon's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
The last new comic I purchased was Amazing Spider-Man #700. Back when I was buying new comics and TPBs, I was buying my new issues from a discount service (G-Mart Comics in Illinois). When i was collecting hot and heavy, I allocated approximately $75 per month. Since I have no interest in new comics, that $75/month is put to better use. Joe Ankenbauer -
Here are pictures of my issue of The Brave and the Bold #34. Any thoughts/grades would be appreciated. There is an approximately 0.5 inch spine split in the upper left-hand corner. At best, I think it's a 4.0. Joe Ankenbauer

Here are pictures of my copy of Fantastic Four #13. Any thoughts/grades would be appreciated. I was thinking 5.5 to 6.0, after a cleaning. Joe Ankenbauer
