  1. I think the Manhattan Projects is a great start. Bizarre, yes. In a good way. I split my time between 2 locations and the Manhattan Projects is the only one of my many TPB collections that I have moved back and forth... On a plane... As heavy luggage... To read over and over again. I think I've read it 4 times. I wouldn't trust anyone who didn't like it.
  2. I have tastes similar to what you have described. I'm looking for great works of art and writing. Maybe take a look at Image (the publisher). Others too, there is a lot of good modern stuff out there. Manhattan Projects, Space Riders, WE3, Orbiter, Prophet, God Hates Astronauts, Ed Piskor's stuff, Jesse Jacob's stuff, Descender, Low,
  3. Thanks for the report. Those Coliseum shops look very clean and well organized. That's a good sign in my opinion.
  4. Great thread Frisco Larson. I love Mexican comics. The collection you have put together is amazing.
  5. Some comics are so cool that low grade does not matter at all, imo. You have great taste.
  6. Reading Daytripper by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá. I search out well written and illustrated comics and this one is the best I've read in quite some time.
  7. God Hates Astronauts - by Ryan Browne is LOL hilarious. A lot of his stuff is. I remember a panel where someone is buying a live chicken at the market and, in a small word balloon, not a main focus of the panel and not really on topic, is the vendor saying, "Please don't have sex with that chicken." Ryan Browne makes me LOL frequently. He's nuts.
  8. Doing it outside of ebay was a mistake, imo. Not because I think this seller will rip you off but because now you are a special order. Outside of the regular that they handle all day every day. Probably saved a few bucks. Now pay the price for being a bargain hunter. Maybe they forgot your order. Wouldn't surprise me, you skirted the system. I'm sure they thought twice about taking the offer. In my experience as a provider of goods and services most people looking to save a buck by asking me to do a deal outside the system end up being whiners or worse and I regret giving them a break. People who just can't go with the flow and do it the way everyone else does are interesting to talk to but NOT fun to do business with. They gave you a break. So give them one.
  9. I think hole punches are cool. So many of those books are in great condition, probably because a comic book lover punched them and stored them in a binder. I put hole punches in the same category as written names and date stamps on covers. All cool.
  10. Nice book. The eBayer who won't eat their own mistake is pitiful. What a wimp.
  11. Looks like bait to me. Used cans of spray paint, Christmas decorations, and a stack of Spider-Man comics. They are going to say there are more in the basement and there they will make sausage out of every comic nerd who shows up.
  12. Storage units are too easy to burglarize and it happens all the time. Do not use them. Sell the stuff if you don't have room for it. The cop who filled out my report when my unit was emptied, along with multiple adjacent units, told me they are burglarized all the time and that he would never use one. The guy who did it was on video, they had his license plate. I never got anything back. It doesn't matter if it looks secure. The drug addict with the unit next to yours is going to cut your lock when he moves his stuff out and he is going to use your comics for gas money to get out of town. Don't feed the animals.
  13. I like the advice to keep 10 and sell the rest. Do it now while you feel motivated to do the work. I'm at your stage in life too, I want to downsize, and my collections have become a ball and chain. Too valuable to give away and too big to easily sell. I dread the task before me.
  14. Turnando

    Replica

Me too. I was thinking about $5-$10. Then I peeked and saw a price of about $100. That doesn't make sense to me.
  15. I like it a lot. The art is intact and looks great. The extra rough spine and corners look cool to me. Exciting Battle and Adventure... indeed.
  16. I see four I'd grab. Guardian of Fukushima, Incal, 2000AD, Bloodborne I like FCBD because it is fun to see a comic crowd and it brings back memories of good times when my kid was young and loved FCBD. My kid and I always grabbed the Bongo Simpson book when we saw it, like Robot Man.
  17. Yeah, I've seen that and am aware of Dylan's history of odd and horrible behavior. It is over the top. I also know that he is a young man, a prime candidate for those first few full manic breaks with psychosis that can come on like a hurricane for the first time in some very unfortunate people in their late teens or early twenties. It destroys lives. Everything I've seen makes me wonder about bipolar disorder. I don't think it is OK to pile on Dylan because I think there could be something wrong with him. Call him out on his BS, make sure the community is aware of him, but I have a feeling this is deeper than just being a jerk.
  18. Let's be open to the possibility that a psychiatric disorder may be in play here. I've always been partial to outsiders and people who are different. I am not super normal myself. A bipolar manic episode can look something like this. I'm going to hope for the best for Dylan and his family. Maybe he is a jerk but maybe he is in another world and could use some compassion.
  19. I had gotten bored with the series... The books and the show... and took a break for a while and will pick it up again eventually. Now I won't be surprised, sad, shocked when Daryl dies. I can be sad now and get it over with. That's a relief. Thanks!
  20. My avatar is from graffiti in Alajuela, Costa Rica. I like it because it is in a comic art style, imo. I found 3 of these by the same street artist, scattered around Alajuela, in late 2018. They have since been painted over by the city. A real shame.
  21. I think that folks are trying to say this is the crux of the problem. You chose a cheaper/easier option that left you exposed to liability. Then a bad thing (may have) happened and it sounds like you are not assuming responsibility for your choice. If the book never shows up then you might get $100. You lost a gamble. I think it will show up late and then it can just be a scary lesson learned: if you don't want to self-insure by eating losses then pay up front for someone else to assume liability.
  22. Thanks for the article link! I love it that a comic book enthusiast bought Gold Key and wants to do cool things with it. Also love that he paid cash plus traded a TMNT #1 to get Gold Key. Sounds like a real comic book guy to me.
  23. I suppose I'm in the minority but I think the piece is cool. Like a tooth or bone fragment from a saint, maybe.
