  1. I've been holding back for a while sending some books in for reholdering – I wasn't sure if they would come out ok, but this post has emboldened me. And totally agree - the current slabs are WAAAAAY better than the older ones. I love the little lip they have on the back for carrying them, and they don't have that stupid strip of paper glued to the top.
  2. Speaking of doubles, just upgraded this classic cover, a beautiful copy! (Was going to keep my original one, right, 2.5 with a tear seal, but will probably find a new home for it.)
  3. OMG - Based on recent sales, you got that one for a STEAL! Congrats. It's one of my all-time favorite comic covers.
  4. Well, this one has yellow at the top! Hahahaha Also signed by Otto Binder. :^)
  5. Have you - or has anyone - had any difficulties with reholdering (like the comic got messed up)? I have a bunch of books I want to send in, including some Timelys.
  6. OMG, totally! Really hate that part! Now storage is more of an issue. Some of my slabbing has been done if a book is brittle, or if I want to sell it, but much has been done to establish value. I'll sometimes get beat up copies to read, or coverless, to have the experience of actually reading the comic. Other times I'm good with early Marvel Tales and Marvel Collectors Item Classics. (Modern reprints on bright shiny paper I'm not so into, although I have some of the facsimile ones, where they have the ads and letters pages and all that)
  7. I mostly agree. Of maybe 2,000 comics, under 100 are slabbed. On major items I always get slabbed to make sure there's no resto. Plenty of books I've busted out over the years, which is kinda fun. I have some raw Timelys, and enjoy them, but like many golden age comics, a lot of the stories are just kinda ok – so I'm good with most of mine being slabbed. I've gotten to the point where it's like having artwork framed - esp the busy Schomburg covers. I can just stare at them and get lost in all the action and detail.
  8. Absolutely on the composition of this – the “X” makes it all happen. The detail in the back is astounding. And jeez, calmly tossing a bomb like that is classic. I specialize in books that look better than grade. All this has is a detached cover, otherwise it would grade much higher. That’s not a defect I care about.
  9. If I can only have one comic book (God forbid!)… Yeah, maybe it would be this one.
  10. Just got the 5.0 of #27 recently. My #28 is a 2.5 - but a very nice 2.5. I also have a raw #27 with two married centerfolds.
  11. #27, 28, and 37 are my absolute faves. My husband and I call this the "perforation cover." (along with MM #52, although in coolness that one is a distant second.)
  12. My newest addition, ALSO a 2.5. (I'm not sure why, but I tend to find Timely 2.5s. I think I have like 5-6 of them! Hahaha. No apologies.) I was bidding on a 6.0, but it got kinda out of hand. Looking for Cap #47, if anyone has, and some others.
  13. I missed out on upgrading my MM #52 yesterday. Pretty bummed, but the 6.0 just went for too much. Big want for me now is Captain America #47.
  14. Every time I think of selling one of these, I think “well, they look so good together…“ They all have married pages. I dream of someday having a nice unqualified, unrestored copy. (Let me know if you have.)
  15. Great transaction with Jim on a pretty rare golden age book. Paid right away, communication was great. Hope to deal with him again in the future. Thanks again! Mike
  16. That extra copy of All Select #4 that I had for sale sold. Thanks everyone who wrote me about it. (No more Timelys for sale right now, except a Black Knight #4, which probably doesn't count as a Timely, but hey, close enough. Hahahaha)
  17. It is a stunning statue. I love #27, and also All Select #4 - another one with Cap on a motorcycle. (Somehow I have four of them, but the lower grade I'm trying to find a new home for.)
  18. Upgraded my All Select #3! (You’d think it’s not much of an upgrade, but I wasn’t happy with the registration on the 4.5, and registration is a huge thing for me.) The new copy looks better than this photo from the auction.
  19. A 4.5 just sold for $10,727 (plus shipping and sales tax), so I don't think you've lost your sanity. I've got a copy, and honestly, it's the highlight of my collection. I think it's one of the best covers of the entire Golden Age of comics. MyComicShop.com has an incomplete copy with the back cover, at a crazy price - but it's been for sale there FOREVER! It didn't sell when they had it priced at $800, and it sure isn't selling now. Make them an offer, see where it goes. Sell whatever is left for whatever you can get for it. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?ItemID=51099815
  20. I could really use a copy of AS #1, if anyone is selling. Missed out on that 3.5 (that was posted the other day 😔).
  21. Got a Cap #33 recently. (NOT as dark as is in the pic.) Was in my Top 15 wants, so I was pretty happy. Heritage has a copy this grade for sale now, so we'll see if I paid the right price or not. (Also got Blue Ribbon #13, also from my Top 15, about the same time.)
  22. I forgot about that - SORRY! How do I take down this post?
