15 years ago this thread was one letter away from becoming an area with a bunch of very inappropriate images... Thankfully, 15 years later, we can all gaze upon each other's ducks and do so with joy. No harm, no fowl.

Great thread! Alright so this year was bad but it actually was my most successful year in terms of adding some great books at even greater value. And I added a LOT! But here are my top 3! 3. Terrors of the Jungle 17 Someday I want to tackle the goal of getting as many of the comics referenced in SOTI as well as a copy of it. Someday. In the meantime this started the gear off right for me and was an eBay but that I feel was well under value. And it scratched my LB Cole itch that I get every year to try to add at least one or two of his covers to the PC. 2. Haunt of Fear 17 Prior to this issue, I had no EC horror books in the PC. That had to change and so as part of my October purchases, I nabbed this off the boards. I always buy something Halloween comic related during October every year and this year will go down as one of my favs. 1. Amazing Spider-Man 129 A book that needs no introduction. As part of a large collection I purchased, this was the best book and I was beyond excited that the guy had it. I kept a lot from the collection and this was far and away something I never expected this year but happily will take as a positive memory of 2020. Honorable mentions: Over 200 Bronze Age books I love, from some fillers to some missing ASM issues, to some 30 cent variants. All gathered and loved. Also my comic rack currently residing with a friend who picked it up for me but will be with me in the new year!

PGM FF Annual #5
comicginger1789 replied to Carpendaddy's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Def clean and press and I think 7.5-8.0 is in the cards. -
PGM ASM #300: The Grade? It's in.
comicginger1789 replied to BoogieWoogie's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
7.5. The corner rubbing and wear will keep from higher IMO. Pressing might present it nicer and guarantee a 7.5 but I would be very surprised with higher. -
PGM Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #19
comicginger1789 replied to APDallas's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Yeah 4.0-4.5 seems fair. I think the spine split keeps it from 5.0 -
Please grade this Rangers #26!
comicginger1789 replied to Point Five's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
5.5 from me with outside shot at 6.0 -
What a weird bend to this book. I think even after pressing, that 7.0-7.5 would be the high side. Not too shabby either way tho.

Curious what everyone's plans are?
comicginger1789 replied to MagicMan_2017's topic in Comics General
My plans are as follows: 1) Leave to family or close friend who wants them. 2) If no family interest, sell when I am around 65-70 and have family get the money. During said sale I would hope these boards exists so I could ensure books go to fans who truly love them. I might start the selling process sooner but right now that is the goal. There are maybe 12-20 books I’d keep forever the rest I could see myself being fine with parting with when the time comes. However the thrill is still very much alive and well for me so those days are far off at the moment! -
Cool book! Double covers def have fans and people who pay up for them. Especially met issues with double covers. As for value that can be tricky. Assuming you want to maximize your return, price high and then lower if the interest isn’t there. But I think there are a couple boardies who might def be interested.

"Buy the book, not the grade"
comicginger1789 replied to AwesomeSauce's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Chasing the 9.8 is a weird obsession I will never truly understand...that being said, I get that it exists and hey, I get going to fit especially to see if you have a 9.8 or are thinking of flipping/selling a book and want the best possible grade for selling purposes. But to be mad that your copy comes back 9.2 to the point where that factor would prevent you from keeping it seems silly. You clearly liked it when it was raw, but now the reality of its grade has you changing your mind? Silly. Love the book. I love every book. If they came back lower than what I thought, I still love them and treat it as a lesson in grading. -

How is grading right now? Tight? Loose?
comicginger1789 replied to Boboset's topic in Comics General
Toit like a tiger -
If it is a bigger book (bigger meaning value wise or desirability or rarity or all of those) I refer to sales from other sites. If it is something more run-of-the-mill, I use ebay sales. Occasionally I have a book that is hard to track, with sales all over the place. I price those a bit higher with best offer and if it doesn't sell, I start the drop zone until someone nabs it up.

PGM Weird Fantasy 16
comicginger1789 replied to misterrmystery's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I have 25 years of experience looking at cars and naming cars. When I was a kid of 6, I could name passing cars driving by my window. Do I really know anything more about cars? Outside of changing oil and tires, nope. Asking me to diagnose a problem would be a waste of your time. But I do have 30 years experience with cars That being said, 6.0-6.5 from me easy. A press might MIGHT get 7.0 but I think it would just guarantee a 6.5 -
I don't think I have ever heard of Kane/Romita being compared to Todd...can you elaborate, I am curious
-
Nope I dislike it a lot because the Hulk looks ridiculous. The concept of the cover is cool and I would love seeing a classic artist draw that scene but for me, Todd's overexaggeration of the Hulk's figure ruins it. Add in that I did not love this particular story arc where Spidey gained cosmic powers and it just was the decline for Todd for me. I find his first issues on ASM drastically different than his later stuff. He just got wilder and wilder until I personally did not like it. I found the same with Spawn too, the further Todd went the more I disliked his art although it seemed to work better in Spawn than it did at ASM. I also appreciate his limited Batman work because it was something different however I am very glad that he did not get an extended run on that character because I fear he would have turned Batman into a hulking muscular monster with a cape that took up 75% of the panels on a page.

Date Stamp (and Store Stamp) Love
comicginger1789 replied to comicginger1789's topic in Comics General
Is it unusual because this is seemingly before it was ever on the stands? Is the year confirmable? I know I have a bunch of Bronze Age books from 75-76 that have 78/79 date stamps on the back. My guess for my own was that they were new old stock or something that was eventually bought up and stamped when they were bought up by whoever at a later date. Maybe this happened here? -
I want to meet lots of you in the future. When and where and how I don’t know but I’d like to!
