  1. “This will be a day long remembered...” ...and you Mr Prowse shall not be forgot. Thank you and Rest In Peace.
  2. Yeah I think 3.5-4.0 is where she falls. The detached center combined with spine split keeps it from 4.5 or better
  3. Yaaaaay! My donation: A mystery box with some golden age, silver/Bronze Age and modern age stuff inside. Oh and in case the comics suck, $30 PayPal to go buy whatever you want. All as one prize. Take it...or don’t:)
  4. Update! I replaced a couple books with upgrade (93, 165, 166, 167) and added a few I was missing including 32, 70 and 86.
  5. I hear ya. As a kid of the 90s and early 2000s I feel I was the only 7-10 year old during that time buying and reading comics from the 60s, 70s and 80s. For whatever reason my dad, who is not a comic collector at all, took me to a comic shop when I was 7 and I remember looking at whatever was on the shelf in ‘96 or so and thinking “this doesn’t look right”. However when I dig into the back issue bins and saw Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man I knew that was the stuff for me. Flash forward almost twenty five years and I’m still stuck in that era, having read only a very very minor amount of stuff published between 1990 and now. I’ve met other collectors my age who read current stuff or stuff from the 90s but no one who has read (or bought) stuff like Combat Kelly or Red Wolf or Spider Woman or Marvel Chillers or whatever. But I feel at hone talking about the days of old with the older collectors. I love absorbing knowledge and feeling as though I was there living it when they did, buying the stuff off the stands.
  6. Yup Now I’m not saying CGC is perfect. There have been enough instances where books that probably should be a whole grade point lower have been “missed”. But from all outward appearances those instances happen at a minimal. And for me it’s how CGC addresses their mistakes that means a lot. Right now hey seem to be attempting to be a lot more transparent to the community, something I think will only help them in the long run.
  7. I don't get offended personally. For example, I sold a Hulk #180 earlier this year for around $200 or so. I had someone offer $80. Yes it was lower grade but I knew it was a lowball, so I just declined. If you are trying to lowball, you could offend. But if you want some "guidelines": - if it is a $20-75 book, I try to see if dropping by $5-10 is possible. - if it is a $100-500 book, I try to see if $25-50 is possible to knock off - if it is a $500-1000 book, I try to see if $50-75 is possible Beyond $1000, I am not much help as I have never spent or offered or been involved in trying to buy a book priced that high. It also comes down to what the seller is selling it for. If the price is real good, I just buy. If it is market value, usually I don't bother. If it is slightly above what frequent sales are, I might try to make an offer more in line with that.
  8. Pictures would help answer a few of your questions, including whether or not a 9.4 seems proper for the book or not based on its appearance. Also, if you are buying ANY book, you need to take the time to look at it to ensure it is up to your standards. Ask for more pics, even if it is a graded book. Never assume that just because it is 9.0 or 9.2 or whatever that it will satisfy your own standards. I will admit, I have made this error in the past. I have bought books raw with minimal pictures and listen in Fine, which I generally an fine with, but when I got the books, they had minor flaws that I cannot stand (loose center staple, rust mark on staple, a minute but noticeable stain on the back cover). This was my error as I read Fine, assumed it would suit my standards, and just clicked buy. I have learned from this. The same applies with CGC books. 9.4's can have a range of flaws, albethem minor, and perhaps this book you bought has some of the flaws you hate but technically, still would make that book 9.4
  9. Picked this up because I needed this issue and it has the stamp shown. Anyone know what B2-15 means? I feel like I’ve seen these stamps before...
  10. It saddens me to hear this but I guess at some point, we all probably get there. For me, I feel like one of the "younger" old book collectors. I will cherish another 40+ years (hopefully) of collecting. That being said, I am prepared to move it all eventually. Maybe my son or daughter on the way will take interest. If not, I will leave them with whatever financial gain my collection has rather than burden them. I know that all seems sad but in a way, I will be proud to do it. And hey, I probably will even come on here (provided this place exists) and donate my lesser books (the $5-10 or less stuff) to future boardies who need em.
  11. Dare I say a peaceful ending could happen here? I hope so. I don’t like when mom and dad fight. I love when comics and money exchange hands happily for all!
  12. That tear sucks. .Without it, I think you have a 7.0-7.5 copy or so on your hands. With it, I feel 6.0 is where it falls with an outside shot at 6.5
  13. I assume this counterfeiting was done back around when the books came out? Or early 90's?
  14. Someone might pay it (or offer some lower but still obscene amount to which the seller will happily). Basically guaranteeing that they field all offers and get best deal possible.
  15. This thread needs to be saved or published or something. Think I said that before but I stand by that sentiment!
  16. I am at 3.5-4.0 qualified.... too many creases and a fair amount of edge wear. A clean and press might help ensure the higher of my guess.
  17. Without the spray, I see a 6.5ish book. The back cover shows some wear and some dust/sun shadow along the bottom, along with some faint indents. They hammer that shade along the bottom so maybe even 6.0. The spray, while visually distracting, should not come into play in this grade range but if so, a 0.5 downgrade at most. To summarize, I am actually at 6.0 overall and I don't think the spray is the main contributor to that.
  18. An Everett beauty! Absolutely amazing copy, I envy you, yada yada yada... Oh and 8.5 from me no question.
  19. I think it maxes out at 6.0 after press. 5.5 as is.
  20. No, I sold 2 first round. Jim and I forget his name from Crested Butte. Nice guy though. This round there was 100 but now that is down to 10. Quality control issues and an internal dilemma as I struggle with the prospect of perhaps not delivering enough drekiness to meet my claims. Oh and here.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/284095040765
  21. BLACK FRIDAY SALE! BOXES ARE NOW 25% MORE MORE MORE!!!! THATS RIGHT, EACH BOX IS NOW $93.75! GET THEM NOW WHILE YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO WASTE MONEY STILL EXISTS! NEWLY ADDED INVENTORY! 22. Thwarted again! Those who want 'em will find them. I believe in you drekonian folks! Until then, I suppose mods may remove this thread
  23. Oh no so I can't even sell them here...maybe that is why the support has been dwindling after an initial hot start. I may have to move to ebay then. Link to come.
  24. Also come on DC. Only 3 Jokers? I expected more.
