  1. Little known fact, his name was Leroy and they employed him initially as a sales representative but he was found chewing on books off the production line so they fired him. He managed to have a successful career in showbiz though…I believe his great great granddaughter was the rat in the one episode of Game of Thrones.
  2. Hmm then it’s less terrible but even still it always stood out as annoying to me. I just am not a fan of photo covers really. Be it this or something like that Sub Mariner ish where he is drawn but the background is a photograph….hate it
  3. I just can’t with Shazam. It’s like cheesy simplistic amateur hour with every cover….
  4. Hi all, Looking to trade this book, maybe sell it. Lower VG range, corner piece missing, printers crease on back cover and small stain on spine. Looking for $275USD or equivalent in trade. Hoping to knock off a few missing Spidey books via trade if possible. Issues 29, 32, 34, 39, 40 would top my list. Let me know if you have any of these and are willing to trade! Please note that I am in Canada if that poses an issue.
  5. I would have to re read the issue to know if that notion plays a roll in the story
  6. Every Shazam cover from the 70s run
  7. I love how you can see the photgrapher in the background...like who looked at this and said "Yup, that will sell well!"
  8. 8.5 from me! Spine ticks and some light corner/spine wear!
  9. Perfectly understandable. Even removing the tape probably won’t help bump much anyways and as part of your history with the book, keep it. I wish I had history like that with old books:) sadly my history from my youth is the 90s….not my fav time for comics at all haha
  10. 3.0 tops Is that tape holding anything on the staples? If not perhaps a moderate professional could remove..::
  11. Press that sucker and I would not be surprised at all with 8.5-9.0
  12. Thanks everyone.... The spine is NOT split on the book. The original staples simply pulled through and the cover came off long ago. Sometime, again long ago, the original owner restapled it so the book was together. He did not do a terrible job and because the spine is somewhat rolled on the book, you kind of can't tell until you open the book. At any rate, as mentioned above, even if he did not do this, the book is at BEST a 1.5-1.8. It would never in a million years get 2.0 or better. I am more than happy with anything 1.0/1.5/1.8 with added staples in a blue label. I will share upon its return
  13. Is...is my mind in the gutter for my eyes being drawn here and seeing this first before I read the entire speech bubble?
  14. If the book is a 1.0/1.5/1.8 even if the original staples were hanging on (or the book was left cover detached), does adding the staples change anything? Maybe bumps from a 1.8 to a 1.0 I sent this in as part of my first submission excitement but did not take time to garner feedback...I'll be kinda bummed if it returns purple. I pegged it as a 1.0 book which I am hoping for, with a blue label.
  15. A beat up old copy of Daredevil #1 gets well loved in the sixties and seventies. At some point the cover falls off but the kid restaples it back on. If that book goes to CGC will it be a purple label or a blue label?
  16. Pictures can be doctored. They don’t wanna be held liable in any way for that stuff so if they don’t see it, it’s just a name on a book. Plus even when another company authenticates a signature there is a chance they also get it wrong. My question would be why do you need it slabbed? Is it not enjoyed raw? No need to spend the extra money. It won’t up the value, you have enough to validate it should you ever sell and there are plenty of just as great display methods that are as safe or better for the life of the book
  17. Besides I had the book at 6.5-7.0 tops with the back cover the way it was and some of the other flaws. Was floored to get an 8.0 and who knows a clean could push to 8.5-9.0 so maybe someday I’ll resubmit. But I’m happy as is right now.
  18. And your pressing did well! Another batch will be coming your way when I get around to it. Thanks Andy!
  19. It may sound tedious, but here is what I do when trying to realllly accurately grade my own books (usually I just inspect for several minutes but if sending to CGC, I would take more time) Inspect under direct lighting. Tilt the book, so you can see it at all angles (not in a bag I might add). And do the same for the back. You would be suprirsed how many people do NOT do this. They simply look at their book in a bag and board, think it looks sharp and send it off. Sure, some of the time the 9.4-9.8 you see will happen...but often times you get scenarios like this where you miss something. I also suggest taking front and back scans or pics of books prior to sending, or even a video detailing the book so you have evidence of its condition before sending (again, maybe not on every book if you submit a lot but definitely high value ones to ensure damage does not happen while at CGC). No one likes to admit they are wrong. It takes a gut check and honesty with yourself. These bends mentioned are probably not visible in the slab. But they are in direct lighting, when the book is raw and graded. Think of it like a faint dent in a car. Sometimes these go unnoticed if you are standing a few feet away from the car, you look at it, it seems perfect. But when you getup close and personally, you can see the dent or bend in this case. A press would have likely helped this and achieved the grade you probably saw. Pressing tends to remove a lot of bends and results (generally) in higher graded books.
