On a related note, there is an agent offering a pencil cover I like for more than I think it is worth. The same price is posted on similar covers by the same artist, but the ones sold are about a third less or lower. It is also priced at almost 6 times his panel pages. I am not anxious to offer a third less than asked, since I think it would be rejected. I also have no intention of insulting the artist or denigrating the piece. Anyone with brilliant ideas how to get that price closer to reality? And no, it is not the Donnelly’s.
I once wrote to a dealer, and everything is true, saying
“I would like X piece. <insert gush here> Is there any chance you would accept $Y? I had a similar (cover from the same series/artist) piece that I recently offered to someone who inquired at $Y. It was rejected, but out of respect I’ll buy X piece from you at the same price, if that is acceptable.”
We were able to work a deal.

I just let go of a piece I did not anticipate selling for many, many years. I reached out to someone on CAF about one of their pieces, and they responded with a trade offer (+cash) that was so strong that I agreed. I like dealing with Premium members who update their galleries regularly as a sort of ‘safety net’ vis-à-vis ‘who ships first’ - I’ve never had a problem.

I was very sad to lose the Ultimate Iron Man 2 cover due to poor bidding on my part.

Here's my personal challenge-- perhaps never attempted before-- but my goal is to post meaningful art pieces in order from A to Z across a variety of titles and artists with no duplication, that I currently own or will acquire throughout the year. Will give it my best but may stumble into roadblocks (J,O,Q,V,Y?) or run out of money. 26 postings over 52 weeks but to make it interactive, when a piece hits either 220 views or 20 comments it triggers the next letter posting the following week-- thanks in advance for your support and encouragement. For me, it will be a year-long journey and expression of great art and personal passion. To date, I've posted:
- A for Amazing Spider-man (Larsen)
- B for Batman (Capullo)
- C for Cloak & Dagger (Bagley)
- D for Doomsday (Jurgens)
- E for Elektra Assassin (Sienkiewicz)
Today, I'd like to share the inside cover to Famous First Edition #C-61 Superman #1 (Garcia-Lopez), a majestic portrait of the Man of Steel flying over the Twin Towers.
As a kid, I collected and read those incredible treasury-sized Famous First Edition reprints of key issues Action 1, Detective 27, Batman 1, Superman 1, Flash 1 and Wonder Woman 1. They reproduced the originals exactly— only bigger— and, without the outer cardboard cover, they looked like the real thing. Overstreet Price Guides even had warnings about them being sold as originals! even The outside cover was all stats but this inside cover was original art by Jose Luis Lopez-Garcia and Giordano, two powerhouse DC artists who were flag bearers of DC's house style. A super-nostalgic cover for me with The Man of Steel in iconic form.
Enjoy!
Congrats on this one! I thought it was brilliant.

Haven’t kept tabs on them after passing.
So definitely nothing you regret. That sounds pretty good.

Can you share examples of pieces you’ve passed on that you might have ordinarily purchased were it not for this ‘one a month’ experiment?

Jenny Frison has an interesting hybrid process to produce her pieces, aimed at making the process quicker. I like how you get both versions when you buy the original art. https://www.comicsbeat.com/matt-chats-jenny-frison-discusses-cover-art-process-and-focusing-on-emotion-and-character/

Very nice - thanks for the additional shot. How close are you to filling the other walls with artwork?
Difficult decisions will have to be made....
The new set up has much less space for artwork, so I’m going to put up some larger pieces and break everything else down into portfolios.

If like to showcase art from turn point years - Start of Golden and Silver, major storylines like Star Wars.
Also, I’d love a well curated strip art retrospective.

I think only Gumby or Reed Richards could use that bathoom
Haha, that’s my Narnia door. Did consider trying to hide it altogether but then the heritage and clink offerings appeared and my budget took a hit.

No deletion For the sake of new collectors.
Alex is right. It would be nice to stop talking about them but the deal with the altered art is very important info to highlight. Full disclosure is best.
Alex is a thoughtful fellow and I appreciate his serious approach to the subject of Coollines.I agree 100%

Done by David Nakayama. He agreed to draw this one traditionally instead of digitally. He knocked that one out of the ballpark.
I really like how he did the eyes!
