You and the OP seem to be asking where folks go to find these amazing near-magical deals.

I understand that people don't always find unopened cases of Spider-Man #300's, I just wondered where and how people found large amounts of books

    Thanks for the grade.

I got it years ago in a package deal for what I think was less than a dollar, so unfortunately not a good indicator for current pricing. Just out of curiosity, what is your LCS asking?

Anyone else care to chime in on the grade of this book?

My LCS was asking $80 for one copy, and $40 for the other

Those are very awesome comics to behold, for sure!  Just so happens I have Iron Man at 8.5 (but Universal).  :headbang:

At C2E2 this year, I saw several Hulk 181, and a Captain America from 1941, I think, with Stan Lee's signature on the outside of the slab with a "certificate of verification."  They were asking a solid $10,000.

    That's a nice book!

In person? The Detective Comics #27 2.5 that has floated from owner to owner over the past couple of years. Whatever auction house it's consigned to displayed it at major cons when it was up for sale.

How much was it selling for when you saw it?

  5. What is the awesomest comic book you've ever seen in person? Whether it's one you brought home, one you didn't, one, you could've, whatever..

I'm a newb so mine would have to be a Spider-Man #238 (With Tattooz) or an Iron Man #1 CGC 8.5 Restored. (Edit: I forgot that I saw a Captain America #3 PGX 8.5, later a CGC 6.5, a Batman #9, and A Spider-Man #129 CGC 9.0. All in the same shop.)

I'm messing with you, but you got a thoughtful and respectful answer to your question (shrug), then proceeded to take offense and at what I'm not sure .....

I thought it was on purpose, maybe not?

    When did I take offense?

How many people here have huge piles of high grade copies of a particular issue? It’s not uncommon

But where did they get them? Buying old stock? Buying a bunch when ti came out? I don't like gambling and buying a bunch of modern age comics, so...

Looking to see what people think about this one. I picked it up for what I thought was a good price.

I'm not gonna bother trying to grade it, I'm a newb. However, I do wonder how much you payed for this. My LCS had a lower grade copy for $80.

  9. I just talked to a guy who said he sold 200 copies of Spider-Man #252 in 2014-2015. I know a comic shop that has a bunch of #252's, all in high grade. I figure (Correct me if I'm wrong) that these guys must be buying either cases these books or buying them from some person who happens to have a bunch of copies.

Though, What I really want to know is: How on earth do you find these people that have these unopened cases and/or huge piles of a single issue?? Craigslist ads, Ebay ads, cons?

    Help the newb!
