Without knowing anything, it almost looks to me like they printed that from the sort of scan they'd send to Dave Stewart after the black levels had been fixed, and the paper knocked back to a clean white. All Mignola's blacks tend to be "thin" and splotchy. have been for ages. Shame the repro didn't capture that. Were all the pages this black adjusted, or only certain ones?

Was surprised to see the difference. It’s almost as if Scott didn’t get the art that was being compared and only received the pre-color corrected for that page. That edition actually has lots of pages where Mike’s “splotchy” blacks are clearly visible. Guess he couldn’t get hold of that collector.

  2. Re: Mylar - the recommendation by BCW is large poly bag as it stretches with the weight of the book instead of tearing. The bags used for “Ditko is...” large format books can be used.

Re: AE generally. I have Hellboy, Thor (Simonson), LE GXM Cockrum, Bone, and Chinatown (Powell), Grasscutter (Sakai) & Wrightson in the IDW format. They’re all spectacular. I focus on getting the signed/remarked versions If available or the sdcc version which is tricky sometimes. They’re stored in a closet on a good shelf laying flat. I toss the boxes but get why people keep them. In case IDW is reading: WTB Corben & Darrow. aeindex.org is a great resource for these in case it hasn’t been mentioned.

  3. Has anyone seen a copy of these issues in the wild?

This series is an exclusive giveaway for users of the Dynamics ePlate Credit Card Device, users are given a digital page for every $35 spent (double if spent on TFAW or the Dark Horse Digital store) and once all 32 pages per issue are earned the full digital comic is emailed to them and once all five digital issues have been earned a physical copy will be sent to the user.

They were collected in a trade which is easy to find but I haven't seen any of the physical copies. I see where they promise physical copies but I can't imagine too many users getting to those spend levels on a failed card. Did any even printed?

I searched all of CGC's forums for details but nothing. Would love to find them or if not, at least confirm that there was in fact a print run.

  7. First time considering Trinity for a very high grade slabbed book which will need to be cracked for signing by Adam Hughes. Anyone had experience with these guys opening a book before?

It’s a legit 9.8, no missed flaws by CGC. highest on census and one of 2. Should I even bother?

    5. Cormac McCarthy (Impossible and not the place to ask. Just floating it out into the simulation)

+100 for Ben but sadly unlikely.

If you want 5, ping the owner of Mystery Pier in Hollywood. He told me that he could make it happen and I’m sure they’d send it wherever you wanted it with a creator note if that’s even possible. Cheers!

How can I order it and how is it different from the Omnibus?

I ordered it through DCBS but you should search “in stock trades” too. Yeah, it’s a larger format book than the Omni. Not sure what will happen to it now that DC is restructuring their efforts though.

Had tried that, though I haven't posted any pics. Here is a snip from one of the better competitor's slabs that I think looks like mine (at least the first half of the sig sure does).

On the off chance you’re still wondering about this (I think it’s real btw as he uses a brace now), submit to cbcs for verification. Their tech is legit.

I am just curious why it seems that a lot of times, books with Cameos, partial appearances or First Appearances are not on the label for a lot of 2020 books, heck even 2019 books.  I get that likely it is just because CGC is utterly and completely bombarded by submissions which makes knowing every single Key Appearance, hidden, partial, cameo or full, next to impossible to catch.  However, the Venom series and Thor series of Donny Cates is blowing up as far as new characters, and the labels, not really catching them all.

    Example :

    Venom 25

    • 1st cameo appearance of Codex
    • 1st cameo appearance of Virus

    Thor 4 :

1st cameo appearance of the Black Winter

    s-l1600.jpg

    . Thor 5 :

1st full appearance of The Black Winter

    THOR-5-1st-APPEARANCE-BLACK-WINTER-9-8-CGC-SIGNATURE-SERIES-DONNY-CATES

maybe 6 and 7 who knows, none in the wild as far as I know yet.

Not a complaint, as I said, I have sneaking suspicions as to why this is the case.  However, it would be helpful if the labels had these ASAP in my opinion.

I just realized today that all of the Strange Academy 1st appearances actually appeared in Thor 2 because of the massive Preview section in the back. This has to have been covered somewhere no?

I am Happy to add to the Omnibus collection: Planetary.
    Now a few thoughts.

    * The book arrived with dents in the four corners
    and I was surprised I don't give a f...
    * I already own the run minus number one
    * This omnibus include books that I have never read
    Planetary/Batman: Night on Earth (2003),
    Planetary/JLA: Terra Occulta (2002), and
Planetary/The Authority: Ruling the World (2000).

I am happy to have the whole story in one book
    even with dents.
    Its really a great read,
    I want them together,
and read them as a whole story.

At some point I am going to sell my singles
but that is in the future.

Now; Sharing my life as a little kid,
I use to spend a few weeks at my aunt house every year
my uncle have a huge collection of custom bound comic books bind together
I spend hours reading and looking at them.
The one I most remember was his Black Hawk collection
and one in particular with a Evil Whell.

I guess that is why I enjoy
Whole collections on a single book.

I sold my Absolute Planetary years ago and saw this which looks great but I passed. Then I noticed DC put a single volume Absolute Planetary in solicits last month. Arrives this winter apparently. We’ll see if it gets cancelled. I can’t imagine this entire run in a single absolute format. Stoked.

  13. A few tips...

I might have missed it, mobile search isn’t the best but if you’re collecting Conan Omnibuses the Dark Horse books (OOP) contain stories & imagery that won’t be reprinted in the Marvel re-releases this year. Worth the money even at high prices given the floppies cost an arm and a leg now.

I got really into Valiant with the 2012 relaunch and purchased all the deluxe editions, many of which are in the $150+ range which means nothing to me as won’t sell them.

Of all of the Sandman iterations I’ve read, Absolute is the winner as is the case with Preacher. It is not the case with the horribly recolored (lossy not just subjectively ugly) Saga of the Swamp Thing.

Goon Fancy Pants and Dark Horse Alien / Predator Deluxes are way undervalued.

I also stopped buying “keys” in favor of waiting for the artist edition.
