I think that there's also the argument to be made that comic books are "books" after all, and if you want to read about the first appearance of Harry Potter, you don't need the first printing of the first edition of Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, you just need to read Harry Potter And The Philosopher's (or Sorceror's) Stone in whatever printing/edition includes all those pages.  Don't go on to Chamber of Secrets until you've read "the first appearance" in the first book (any edition). But don't expect any value in later editions. They're not originals.

Fascinating, so CGC should mark Amazing Fantasy 15 reprints done recently as 1st appearance of Spider-Man?

That what I was thinking.  I was going to look it up but you beat me to it.  I remember from being a kid at the time that that book came out way later.

I’m really confused by this as I was collecting when this book came out. The thing I don’t understand is why UXM 201 isn’t his first appearance as he’s the focus of the storyline (baby). Next, NM87 came after 86 in which he makes an appearance. Cameo philosophy is clearly not my bag. Anyway you slice it, 87 2nd print cam over a year after everything happened which, with CGC logic implies that an Amazing Fantasy 15 reprint is a 1st appearance of spidey which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

    Dang, that's a link.

Goon is the best.  Though I enjoy the current series, it's definitely lacking the Powell touch.

Thanks, yeah, I don’t buy high end books off feebay and that dealer won’t respond to reason. ;)

A few months back I submitted a Tick 1 Special Edition that was a no doubt slam dunk 9.8. By far the sharpest copy I had ever seen raw, including two other copies from the same stack that both came back 9.8, except on this copy I missed a tiny dot of rust on the top staple. CGC dinged it all the way down to a 9.2 and the only grader's note was, "slight rust on top staple."

This exact thing just happened to me. If it’s a modern book, I think one should be able to replace the staple like CBCS allows but I’m also too lazy to do so.

  5. Love the goon. Currently playing the RPG with a couple of friends via zoom every week. The source material is fantastic for this purpose. I’m only missing a couple of issues but really want an avatar Goon #1. Willing to pay a decent price for a 9.8 if anyone has a lead.

Just got the Cockrum Artifact in the mail today. I don’t get a ton of these, but might have to start. Love it.

Looks amazing. My copy of that variant arrives Monday. So excited. The AEINDEX forum said that there are 125 total CC signed variants, 15 of which are reserved for in-house and 10 for replacement copies in the event of shipping damage. All of mine sit out of the box on a shelf and see regular/active use. They will have no resale value and I'm 100% ok with that.

  7. My Submissions no longer shows submissions that were less than 8 months old nor does it retrieve submissions on search.

    Is something just down?

Books were received by CGC from pressing on 5/15 and were in quality control yesterday.

Ignore this, I found a similar thread using different language for the same issue.

    1:50 for $85 ?  Yea, nope. Pass

I've heard that the Dejah Thoris Black Bag Risque Virgin #1 is <= 200 printed. I'd also heard that it's not a ratio as it was marketed as Black Bag Risque Virgin Variant LTD at a $100 MSRP ($65 wholesale). The last one on eBay went for $150 unslabbed and there are 3 on census, all 9.8's.

    https://www.cgccomics.com/census/grades_standard.asp?title=Dejah+Thoris&publisher=Dynamite+Entertainment&issue=v3+%231&year=2019&issuedate=2019

It is his only non-implied nude cover for a continuing series.

    Update:

cover C was a standard variant misprinted in the comic cover gallery as “Art by ... Lisner” when it’s just a trade-dressed, censored, wraparound Hughes cover.

1:50 is the Black Bag Risqué which has trade dress

No formal-ratio @$65 msrp (confirm?) ”limited edition “virgin” wraparound”

no formal ratio @$100 msrp “ limited edition black bag risqué “virgin” wraparound”. This is a copy of the 1:50 ratio version but “virgin” and the rarest of covers printed. Contact suspects only 225 were made but didn’t give details on why that number. Perhaps people on this forum know more about the printing process than I do.

  9. This artwork is fantastic. I recently received a factory poly bagged Goon 1 Sketch cover. These were only ever sold factory bagged. Does CGC grade these as blue or green? I’ve seen other poly sketches as blue but wasn’t sure if that was a special arrangement with cgc. I have searched other areas of the forum for an answer but since this was the “mega thread”... I’m new to all of this so please let me know if I’m in the wrong area. I’ve also emailed cgc but haven’t heard back. Thank you.
