Restored, since reattaching both front and back together to make it look like they are not detached would count as restoration.

This is what I'm hoping for. A restored purple label.

From a value standpoint,  I'm not sure if purple or green is better. From a collector stand point,  I feel much better about completing the book. I'm working with (or at least getting a quote from) Susan Cicconi to do the work and when I have it graded I'll send a copy of her work in so CGC knows exactly what was and wasn't done.

It's a Detective comics 26 by the way.

  2. I had pretty much the exact same situation. My 181 was a 6.5.

I wanted to get it reholdered, went to my LCS and the owner was pretty sure a press and dry clean would get a grad bump.

My grader notes were very similar. Soiling on the back cover and multiple non color breaking bends on the back cover.

I did it through CCS and it bumped from a 6.5 to 7.

In my unprofessional opinion, given the graders notes, I think it would help.  But it's always a gamble and I wouldn't expect a massive change.

So if the upside is a half point change, is it worth the $$ and risk?

The most likely downside risk is, the grade stays the same.

There is of course the chance you'll move up more than a half point, and there's the chance someone at cgc disagrees with the initial grade and actually down grades you.  I've read about both scenerios on these forums.

The green slab also means a book is graded in spite of a defect that couldnt be accepted with a universal grade. This book's cover is not the actual cover that came with this specific book, so right off the bat, this will always get green. Now grading the book in spite of this flaw, it happens to still be missing pages, so it becomes a 0.5

This looks like someone's pet project to put a cap 1 together and realized that it was becoming not worth their time and money and called it a day.

Not to derail the thread, but if you marry a different front cover and back cover to a coverless book, then pay a professional restorer to reattach the married front and married back cover, is the book still qualified? Or just restored?

I've pieced together my first book with the missing back cover in the mail. I would really like to make it a complete book once again and have it done correctly.

Harry yeh but someone else might - or might not who knows..?  Prob more for the splash and first Goblin panel page..?  If not such is life.

My 2 cents... Please don't break up that book.

I don't know if anyone would buy the wraps or not, but it's a nice looking copy. Some kid probably took out page 12 40+ years ago. It's apart of the comics history now. I would either keep it and look for a cheap incomplete copy to get page 12 or sell it, save up and buy the copy you want.

If one thinks about his powers, and also about Mr. Fear's powers, you can easily see how intriguing these two villains are as Daredevil's foes.
Not that the Owl or the original Gladiator are not, so to speak, but Mr. Fear and Killgrave have been underappreciated for sure.

«The Purple Man's body produces chemical pheromones which, when inhaled or absorbed through the skin, allow Killgrave to control others' actions, as long as he is physically present. These abilities can overwhelm most, but sufficiently strong-willed people, such as Doctor Doom and Kingpin, have been able to resist its influence, and Daredevil has been able to resist Killgrave as the powers rely on full sensory manipulation, Daredevil's blindness hindering the amount of input he receives and making it easier for him to resist what he picks up.» (from Wikipedia)

That's why I always loved this comic book. First, you have the DD yellow suit that's awesome! And then you have this really sophisticated villain that has always been under appreciated in my mind.

It's a great comic to have.  Happy to pass it along to another collector.

No no,  I actually keep a bear with me when I list comics.

See,  now I'm in an awkward spot. If I fix it,  people won't understand your reference and the humor will be lost.

If I keep it I will be exposed for my mediocre grasp of the English language.
