  1. Hey gang,

I'm hoping somebody will see this - if just for the shear amount of threads and messages in this CGC forum. But, I'm interested in sending in a book for the CGC private signing. Is it possible to have 2 artists sign the same book? When going thru the submission process I can only choose one artist. As an example, I'd love to have Frank Miller and Chris Claremont sign the same book. Thanks in advance

  2. Hey gang, I'm wondering if anybody might be able to help me out with this.

I recently bought a copy of FF 52 (Finally!) and found on one page, the top portion of the page came loose from the staple. The bottom of the page is still attached to the bottom staple.

In the pictures below, you can see the page sticking out from the cover unless I manually place it properly.

I'm just wondering how much this will affect the overall grade/condition of the book.

Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

If you can’t tell how much difference it’d make while visually inspecting it, do yourself a favor and buy the graders notes if you don’t already have them.  A press won’t do any good for defects with colors breaks and may be some hidden stuff on the inside.

Bottom line... better to spend $10 on the graders notes and have a better idea of what could be “fixed” than to spend $50-100 having it cleaned/pressed and another $150 having it slabbed and it coming back the same grade (or worse, lower)

You're right, getting the grader notes is a smart way to go. Thank you!

I think it looks like a corner impact damage, and my best bet is it is from shipping.  In that case I agree the CGC will re-holder this no issue.  More than likely the book is OK as it is still sealed in inner well which looks undamaged. The plastic pieces look to be outside the inner well. Could they have been trying to hide the damage in the eBay photos, it is hard to say. If I remember, the label in the last case series was enclosed in the inner well as well, so it was impossible to just slip it out. But someone trying to switch labels or switch books would likely have been more careful with the case, unless they botched it and were cutting their loses. They book and grade should be easily verified on the CGC site if you look up the serial number also.

How was the book packaged?  When I ship CGC books I put the case in the plastic cover.  Then, I tape cardboard around the book extending beyond the plastic edges to protect against impact.  Then, I bubble wrap. The I place in a very specific priority mail box (1095 I think it is, it is free but a special order box from USPS website). Then I fill the box with packing peanuts.  I know it sounds like a lot, but it works well so far. Corner impact it really the biggest enemy to these cases, but most of the time even when the case is damaged (even heavily) the books fair surprisingly well.

Yes, Brittany is the person to contact. And yes CGC, as long as they see no reason to expect fraud, they will reslab the book.  They should also check the book for damage in a case like this, if they suspect the grade is effected they may ask you how you want to proceed. If the grade has been effected (which I do not think it has by those pictures), they may say something like a press could fix the damage (for something like plastic impressions on the book), or tell you what the new grade is.  If the book has been clearly damaged and the grade has changed, CGC in order to maintain their reputation and protect future potential buyers, can not simply reslab at the original grade. In that unlikely case, you are entitle to a refund, based on the new grade. Regardless, you should be able to get reimbursed by either the shipping company, eBay, or the seller for any coast that you may incur from this.

Hi Drotto, Thanks a bunch for your input on this as it's been a big help.

As for the book, the box they shipped it in, was one of those flimsy Amazon boxes with absolutely zero protection to the corners of the book, whatsoever!  And the book's dimensions where probably a quarter inch smaller than the interior of the box, so it was jammed in there pretty good. Some people just lack common sense, I think. I went back and analyzed the original listing photo and there was definitely no damage to the upper corner, the way there is now. So it was for sure damaged by shipping. He didn't even have the sense to write "fragile" anywhere on the package either.

Also, I was able to contact Brittany McManus and she really put me at ease with the situation and assured she would handle it herself. So she's being a real rockstar for me here!

But a big thanks to this thread or I wouldn't have known what to do. This is my first time sending into CGC, so it's all a learning experience.

    Thanks again, guys!

If you send brittany the email with the pics you provided tonight, maybe she could give a definite yay or nay by late tomorrow. If the seller can wait or idk.

I really think that it's saveable but be 100% sure if possible

Thanks! I just dropped her an e-mail. *Fingers crossed*

    It's all good :)

but pack it carefully when you ship, don't crack the case any further, CGC  will crack the case and give it a once over to make sure that the case cracking didn't hurt the book etc, but I've had cases crack similar that got reholdered fine :foryou:

Awesome, thanks! I'll definitely make sure it's packed properly this time around. I really don't wanna have to return to the seller, so I'm hoping this might work out.

Does it look like shipping damage or was the case tampered with beforehand? The new cases are very hard to mess with without breaking. So what do you mean by looks tampered with?  Just look at the videos on how to open new CGC cases. If it was shipping damage, there is a chance that whatever damaged the case also got the book.

If you got scammed, that sucks. So contact the seller ASAP and calmly say what the issues are. Contact eBay also and file a claim, they are generally generous to buyers and you will get you money back. If it is shipping damages, it is time to file a claim.

It's not one of the newer cases, but from the previous design. The case has a massive hole in the upper left corner, which caused a huge crack in the whole upper portion of the case. Also, the broken pieces have fallin inside of the case. When the seller did his listing, he only provided images of the front and not the back (which is where all the damage is), so there's something fishy about that.

So the real annoying thing is, since this is a Signature Series, it puts the whole autograph in question. Would I be able to send into CGC and just get it re-slabbed? Or would they give me a green label since it's now hard to prove the signatures authenticity? Any help on this would be awesome. Thanks!!!

  8. I was finally able to snag my holy grail of owning a Giant-Size X-Men 1 (CGC 7.0 Signature Series with Stan Lee). Problem is, when it arrived in the mail, the case was all cracked and seriously looks as though it's been tampered with. The book looks more like a 5.5 in my opinion. Buyers beware of purchasing off eBay, even with if the seller has nothing but positive reviews, make sure to do your diligence.
