I get all that, but it's still absurd....auction houses are doing very, very little.  I would say there's less complexity here than selling any other comparable asset: real estate, issuing a prospectus for a fund, etc.  These items should be commissioned in the 3-5% range, and if there are credit card fees associated with it then charge an extra 1-2%.

Playing devil's advocate here, but if you can get away with charging that commission and customers keep coming back, business better than ever, then why would you ever lower your fees?

If I recall, ComicConnect/Metro is a little later than other venues in reporting sales to GPA.  It would make sense in any case that they might wait some period after an auction's end, until payments are received and books shipped out.

That said, it's possible there were a couple of ComicConnect bidders who wanted this book badly who may not subscribe to GPA or generally be aware of what the book is going for.  Perhaps they participate in CC auctions to the exclusion of others.  While this has been readily available in other venues perhaps CC has not offered a copy in a while.

We are often quick to suspect shilling, when there may be simpler explanations completely consistent with normal human behavior - getting auction fever, being inexperienced & uninformed, not doing one's research, etc, that could reasonably explain the actions of two different bidders in a given evening.

Send those "couple of ComicConnect bidders" my way please....I've got a whole collection to sell them!

To approach $2600....I would think the buyer would not only believe it to be a newsstand, but a double cover as well.

No way the seller gets paid 2c

I've actually never purchased from ComicConnect or Heritage.  To be honest, it is also because both claim that winning bids are "binding and enforceable legal contract".  So just how strict are they?  Have they ever come for a buyer's knees? From the sounds of what you said, I am guessing not?

I think that 8.5 by comparison that sold recently (huge discount to 2021) was a better bargain....

Can we talk about comicconnect's absurd commissions at 20%?  This is ridiculous, over 200k+ for listing a comic, what buyer agrees to these terms?  It should be tiered and capped out at that price point like what Mycomicshop does.  Ludicrous!

    So let me get this straight, the X-Men 1 9.6 sold for $872k + 20% buyers premium = $1,046,400 + Tax right?

Wow, will soon be a million dollar book X-Men  1 CGC 9.6.

What's the CGC 9.8 worth then?

Technically though, this does make it a million dollar book with the buyers premium they paid:  $872k + 20% buyers premium = $1,046,400

Or does that # already include the premium?

What in the world is going on with recent sales X-Men 1 CGC 9.2 just sold for 186 000$ that is insane the last one and a ugly one at that sold for 204 000$ and last summer a nice one went for 276 000$.

Good looking copy as well.  I'm surprised that it hasnt been holding value since Marvel is slowly letting out X-men tidbits like the last episdoe of She-Hulk which had a newpaper sidebar "Man with metal claws in bar brawl",

But what goes up must come down.  All major keys are dropping across the board.  Could be a good time to pick up some books for a discount.
