These mid-1940s Punch Comics had some great horror covers. Leaving aside the superhero-with-horror-elements comic covers (Wonderworld #7, Zip #22, etc etc), is there a title with straight horror covers earlier than this one?

Honestly it really depends what one can get away with from what I’ve seen, and even comics that had a code or were at least in the post-code era were arguably just as effective.

Glad that some positivity is coming out of this. I’ve seen comic enthusiasts elsewhere embrace way too much vitriol, insults, antagonism, and general negativity about it that had really gotten to an unjustifiable point, regardless of how bad Wertham, the Senate, and others had mishandled their views on comics at the time, so it’s nice to see the opportunity be taken to discover interesting comics from Wertham’s book people might not know about otherwise.

Yeah, apparently Frazetta wasn’t too involved in the inking, as well as the color registration which somehow manages to make the romance art look less profound.
