  1. Just found out that I have one of these and that it's actually worth a bit of money. It originally came in Comic Buyer's Guide, which many of you know was printed on newspaper stock. I'm guessing that's where the ink came from, rubbing off from the paper and onto the Preview. I'm going to be getting this pressed, but what are the chances that the ink can be removed? And can that be done during a standard "press/clean"? Thanks!
  2. This is why I left. They side with a buyer with 0 feedback who signed up that day over me who's been there 23 years. eBay takes all the money and none of the responsibility.
  3. I will admit complete ignorance that the cover was an homage! But I still say the art on the comic cover is terrible.
  4. When I look at these 13 pages of covers, I can't call something horrible if it's just the product of its time and lived up to the standards of the past. When it comes to those two horrible Adventures of Superman, I think it's a case of "well, it's bad, but the issue is already late so let's just ship it." And yeah, the Liefelds and World's Finest are super bad, but they're at least a style, one that some people obviously like because both of those artists have gotten work for decades. But the one below should have never left the Marvel offices, would have been better if they'd just used the logo and a blank cover. This isn't a style, it's representative of the unfortunate time that every artist goes through as they're trying to get good. This is your 15-year-old friend's work that you look at and say, "Oh, yeah, good," but you're lying through your teeth. This cover makes me feel physically uneasy.
  5. Excellent, you'll soon be getting four copies of Spider-Man 2099 #1 CGC 9.8
  6. Thanks for answering so many questions mycomicshop. One more. How's it work with multiple, identical copies of CGC? Let's say someone has four copies of Spider-Man 2099 #1 CGC 9.8. Can all be sent in at once? Can they be set at different prices?
  7. Captain America's shield has no name. Miles Morales' name has the repeated letter/sound that used to be common but pretty much disappeared for decades (Peter Parker, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Matt Murdock, Bruce Banner, Stephen Strange, Scott Summers). Anybody else have some things that took you too long to notice?
  8. While we're on the subject of MCS, which I've now decided to go with for my selling needs, can someone tell me how to access "sold" listings? I want to see copies of my comics have been going for over there.
  9. Thanks for the responses, everyone. Sounds like I should have investigated MCS a long time ago. The only advantage I see with ebay is being able to write your own titles that might be more enticing than other people's...but that's a small something to give up for the security I hear MCS will offer. S
  10. (bringing this over from the wrong forum I started it in) Been on ebay for 23 years, and they've finally pushed even me away. There is zero seller protection; you can ship somebody a $1,000 slab, get ripped off, and not be able to contact ebay by any method. I can take the "just the cost of doing business" risk on hundred dollar slab, but anything more and the risk is too high. (I'm not a business, anyway, just a guy who occasionally finds something like a West Coast Avenger #45 in his long box). I'm looking for feedback about how other slab sellers feel when they sell on comic link, MCS, Heritage. Is there one that protects the seller better than any other? (MCS puts the slab up on ebay concurrently, so I'm not sure who's taking the risk there). Thanks! S
  11. You're absolutely right, I chose the wrong category. Should I just restart the topic over there?

  13. Goodness! I stated it as "assuming" and "if it does pop." While I believe it's all but certain, I'm not asking if you think it's a bubble. I'm asking IF IT DOES, what are the most solid books. Consider it a thought experiment.
  14. If this collecting bubble pops once the world gets back to semi-normal, what high prices aren't going away? I'm guessing we'll never see golden age blue chips drop, and probably not keys from Marvel's beginning. And I can't decide yet on Ultimate Fallout #4. What do you think will survive this (all-but-certain) bubble?
  15. Just bumping this because I'm really curious if anyone else has been watching these. S
  16. I've read the last six pages, and one thing no one mentioned is the silence. Why hasn't CGC said anything? Instead of posting something reassuring (even something non-committal but reassuring) they stay quiet and let a bunch of people get angry and stew and build off each others' anger, all while they don't bother to address speculations of shady business practices. Just stop by and say "hold on, we're humbled by the overwhelming interest in our services, we'll make it right."
  17. So are the "to press" and "to grade" opening piles separate? They got some of my books on 2/16 for pressing and they're not yet in the system.
  18. I'm over on e-bay and seeing Deadpool cards out of X-Force #1 and Stan Lee cards going for thousands of dollars. Lots of early Impel stuff is going for loads. The listings seem legit. Is this just a case of "collectibles are crazy right now"? Or are PSA 9s and 10s really that hard to get for cards that have ever been touched? (I'm not much of a card person.)
  19. And now an Avengers movie is the highest grossing movie of all time. I kinda miss being a weirdo for liking comics.
  20. Love all the responses. I learned a very important life lesson in 1991 when X-men #1 came out. I ordered 50 copies, because #1, right?! I thought that I was taking 50 copies from the supply they'd already printed, but in reality they were just printing another 50 copies for me (essentially). Yes, I was stupid to think that, but since then it's helped me question the validity of anything labeled a collector's item or limited edition. But hey, a month later X-Men #1 was OUT OF PRINT! So the joke is on everyone else, i guess.
  21. What I'm trying to say is, when did the average person start thinking that comics might be worth something, that the average parent cleaning out their kids room would have started thinking "I'm not throwing these away" or "I'm not putting these out at the garage sale for cover price." When was the point that most people went from "stupid comic books" to "I've heard comics might be worth something"? There, I think that's what I'm asking. When did the non-comic-book-collecting world find out that comics might be worth something?
  22. Another thread on this from not that long ago and how it affects grade (yup it came back qualified) https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/471589-how-does-cgc-handle-aftermarket-upc-stickers/?tab=comments#comment-11271507
  23. Well, I sure feel like an insufficiently_thoughtful_person. Thanks for your help jokiing. No, wait. I don't want to admit that it's my fault. I'm going to say that {select all that apply} is too small. Also, the guy who called me up wondering what I wanted to do after pressing never told me I could select both. Yeah, that's it. Not my fault. S
  24. On the online order form, there's nothing that gives you the option to tell CGC what tier/speed of grading you want them to go to after pressing. Unless I'm missing something on the form. What do you all do?
