If that is the only flaw then 9.2/9.4 is likely accurate.  You want to press this no matter if you think it is the only flaw or not (unless it has been pressed already).  The Polybag was brutal to this issue.

Some that sent in without any spine damage and didn't press came back in the 8.0-8.5 range and lower.

I will definitely press, it has the back cover crease from the poly bag but I do think it will press out.

Yeah, green label is 'Qualified'.  I only have one and it's in my sales thread.  Lol.  I don't like books signed before I buy them, but the one I got was a freebie so I sent it in to CGC.  I wanted to send it back, but the store wouldn't let me. :roflmao:

I get it. I got the two copies of Ultimate Fallout 4 on a ridiculously low price at a comic show last summer and I do wish the cleaner book wasn’t signed for grading purposes, but still a great purchase and probably my best “score” ever.

I would go for the 'Qualified' copy.  I regret buy my UF4 while still in the polybag, but I was new to the whole grading thing.  It was a kick in the you-know-what, but a valuable lesson learned.  Good luck!!! (thumbsu

Qualified meaning green label?  I have heard I can request a blue label and the autograph will just lower the grade but i think I would prefer the higher grade with a green label.  At the very least it would be unique, I haven’t seen any green labels of the book on eBay

This is a common problem I've seen with this book.  I had a poly-bagged copy as well and graded a 7.0 because of too many spine tics and creases.  A press won't help much here because of the color break.  It will grade below a 9.0...maybe below an 8.0.  IMO of course. :)

Thanks. I may leave it raw if that’s the case.  I have another really clean copy but it’s autographed by Sara Pichelli.  I might still send it in and just take the green label.

You are welcome and Welcome to the Boards! I agree , if I had kept the one I had that had that hair it would have had to go back as well. I can say that these boards have a TON of knowledge and almost anything you have a question to someone will have an answer, although sometimes you will get an insufficiently thoughtful person tossing out random garbage from their pie hole. Best not to respond. Don't let them bait you in no matter the seemingly insulting reply.  Good luck with the reholder!

CGC got back to me the next day and are going to re-slab at no cost to me. They handled it absolutely great and very quickly. I am sending it out today.

I started a thread about the same type of issue( Hair in the case) which I did sell and the new owner had it reholdered by CGC for free. Here is the topic which also includes a few other examples of what has been found inside of CGC cases as well as contact info on how to get the reholder.

Thank you for this. I reached out to CGC through their “contact us” function on the site but if I don’t get a response for some reason, I will use the email address in the thread.

It is nice to know that this issue has popped up before and they take care of it. I know I’m being a tad picky but we are collectors after all...that hair being there will slowly drive me mad. Thanks again!

I saw an eBay listing a couple of months ago that had that.  There was similar photo of the hair in the listing, a blurb about it in the description, and it did sell that way to someone.  I didn't notice any price shift.

Looks to me like you might have lucked out since it is near the side.  The sides are sometimes open, not completely welded shut.  When people are cracking slabs, they might start on a side or the middle of the top to start the opening process, since the corners are more secure.  If you can carefully flare open the side the hair is on, you might be able to gently shake it out, or vacuum it out.  That is, if the hair is not trapped in the inner capsule, just between the 2 holders.

I'm interested how CGC would assess this, for a Re-Holder.  But even for free, a process that takes some time and effort.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to access it, but I also don’t want to pry anything open. I’m thinking of contacting CGC about it. I’m hoping it doesn’t complicate matters that I submitted it through my LCS and not through my own account. It would also be disappointing if they wanted me to pay for all the shipping costs involved.

If you know the signature is legit,  maybe consider a grading company that validates unwittnessed sigs?

That’s certainly an option but like most of the community, I really prefer CGC, and since these are CGC boards, I was avoiding that option altogether. Really just curious on opinions on grading it with the green label CGC or leaving it raw.

  9. Long story short, last year I bought a very nice copy of Ultimate Fallout 4 at a comic book show at a very low price.  My guess is that with a press I would probably get at least a 9.4 or 9.6.  I will never assume a 9.8.

However, the book is signed by artist Sara Pichelli.  I did not personally get the auto, so it doesn’t hold any personal value to me, and of course was not witnessed by CGC.  I’m looking for opinions on if you all would grade the book, knowing that it will come back with a green label?

I can’t find any previous green label sales of the book on eBay to compare to.  From a pure monetary standpoint, am I just better off keeping it raw?  Right now I’m leaning towards grading it just to preserve the condition, and I figure it likely wouldn’t end up being worth any less than just keeping it raw.

Appreciate any opinions from other collectors on this and what you would personally do. Thanks!

  10. I’ve never submitted to CGC myself, and am considering doing so with a few books.  Two questions:

Is it crazy to submit a book without getting it pressed?  I want to submit a couple of moderns that look great to my eye, but I’ve heard some people say it’s crazy to get a book graded without pressing also.  Do people have any luck getting back 9.8’s without pressing?

For those of you that submit books, how many books do you generally wait to submit at once?  I was thinking of sending when I had about 5 I wanted to grade to save on shipping, but should I aim to send more?

Do you think the values will come down significantly after this signing? Guess it would depend on which books. I’m thinking of submitting more for my PC.

Might consider waiting too if it will save a few $$$

I would imagine prices on most of the popular ones come down if there is a flood in the market of people trying to sell them.  Hopefully that’s not the case and people are adding these to their personal collection for a while.  For me, it just seems more fun to find my own raw copy, send it in, wait for the results, etc than to just buy it on eBay.  If your only concern is absolute minimum cost I get it but for me it’s about the fun of the hunt and submitting, it almost feels like rolling the dice a bit.
