  1. Finally, some compromise! So it's just a matter of degree. I said earlier that obviously this doesn't apply to someone rare books, for which it's just haggling, or for prices that are even in the ballpark. And as you have said, it's fine to comment on grossly overpriced stuff. So now we have the contours set!
  2. I've sold things several times and no one has ever taken a dump in my thread. I find as long as you price things remotely reasonably, people are fine.
  3. I don't even disagree. There are a lot of super defensive people here. First or second line of my first post was saying that this board is good for deals. I like it--I've sold several things on here, and I check it every day. Was solely about whether price discussion was ever warranted. Nothing more, nothing less. The board is good--no disagreement.
  4. From the very first post in the thread: "(This is exclusive of super rare stuff--I'm talking about stuff where if you search on eBay you get multiple BINs.)" But even in your example, I'm not sure it would end up pushing anyone "right out of the boards." So someone would post their rare GA book for whatever price. Someone in the thread might say "why is that so high, the FMV is x." Seller says "that doesn't really apply as the last sale was in 2013, and this is the only one for sale anywhere." Isn't that going to pretty much be the end of it? Beyond that it's just haggling, and no one was ever suggesting that. Maybe I have too much faith in people to be reasonable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  5. Super cool idea for a thread and kudos to you for doing it. But I have to say that that is the manliest Psylocke I've ever seen.
  6. Now this I agree with 100%. But you have to be careful with this opinion on these boards. This very concept was the subject of one of my first threads on here, in relation to someone showing a picture of a graded book in a sale, and then delivering a different copy, but of the same grade. I said that was wrong because grades weren't all created equal, and I got shouted down by the vocal-seller-majority on here saying that books are fungible within grades.
  7. its slow Especially NYC and NJ. I have Priority Mail hit NJ and then spend several days (and sometimes a week or more) getting to me (in NJ). What is it doing? No one knows.
  8. Good price. Somehow missed this and paid considerably more for a basically identical copy.
  9. I just sold my first thing to Canada. I thought it was going to be harder in terms of filling out custom forms and all that, but the USPS portal it just does all of that for you anyway. Ended up being a single label even.
  10. I sold all of mine in bulk, way undervalued, to buy a new computer in around 1990. One of my biggest regrets.
  11. I like that. Would also just like a less-engineered version of these, maybe made out of plastic or something, if it could cut down the cost.
  12. I do wish CGC were more like CBCS in terms of transparency and availability of grader notes, but I prefer CGC in every other way, so that's just the cost.
  13. Yeah, raws are different. I think somewhere in these 6 pages I clarified that I was talking about pregraded books, and specifically pregraded books for which there were copies up right now with BINs, and specifically not getting into raws or grading or any of that. For the record, I have sold more on here than I have bought, so I guess I'm technically a seller.
  14. They are generally pretty rough. But it was a childhood dream book along with ol' H181. Have not really been interested in the chromiums.
  15. Seems to me if the one account bid it up into the stratosphere, early on in the auction, a lot of people might not look at it again. Either way, it's serious sleaze.
  16. I've done 4-5 moderns and 1 copper, all 9.8, from CBCS to CGC. I was fairly careful when selecting them and all the moderns stayed 9.8. The 1 copper however dropped to a 9.6, and it was the most expensive of the bunch, so that was pretty disappointing. I would absolutely recommend not getting a CBCS with the intention of doing a crossover unless you are completely prepared to eat a grade drop on that book.
  17. To be clear, I really was only accusing one person of not being welcoming, and for the avoidance of doubt, it isn't you, and it isn't any of the people who simply disagreed with me (which was nearly everyone, I acknowledge). On that note, I'ma exit stage left.
  18. Because you didn't just repost it. I deleted that post and did so almost immediately. And then I posted: "Was more a response to the previous poster than a vent, but point taken, and post removed." That you dig it up here, out of context, seems pretty improper, but hey. The post I was campaigning to permit, and the one which I gave that "rant" in support of, is this one, which I didn't even post (that's why I said earlier, if you are also okay with this sort of post then we have no disagreement): Is this the wrong one? Asking because I love the book but the price just seems very very off so trying to figure out what I'm missing.
  19. Ignoring multiple questions, stating that you "just don't care" (page or two ago), and pasting in a comment that I previously immediately deleted after posting, and then ignoring my response to that deleted post, all seem somewhat at odds with your statement that you "welcome the discussion." In any case, I can take a hint. And no, I will not be calling out over-pricers. I will simply continue to ignore their threads as I have said 3 times (now four) in this thread alone.
  20. I gotta say that is definitely not the vibe I am getting here. But thanks.
  21. I do simply leave it alone, as I have said two times (now three) in this thread alone. I asked if this was the best policy. The majority are saying yes. Fair enough.
  22. This seems like a rant to you? Even objectively speaking, I am pretty sure that doesn't qualify as an internet rant. In any case, I didn't open with that. I posted it into a discussion regarding price/forum etiquette that was already going, and then I immediately deleted it.
  23. I'm not in favor of haggling within a thread, no. I'm in favor of something like this: 1. Guy posts: X 9.8 for $500. 2. Someone posts: GPA on that is $300 and there are several BINs up on that exact book as we speak for $250-300. Am I missing something?
  24. I disagree that it was a rant--it was 3 lines in defense of someone who asked a question in a thread and was told to keep his comments out of the thread. If you're saying you're fine with what *he* did (the person who questioned the price) then we actually have no disagreement about the applicability of the rules to sales threads.
