Love Doom Patrol! Beautiful copy! -
@comicginger1789 @The Lions Den @Deadpoolica @Harry Lime @theCapraAegagrus You guys are great for responding to the call Ok @migmtl76 I’ll admit I was high on my original estimate. What can I say, I’m a sucker for old FF’s . I’ll revise my grade to a 4.0.
-
I’ll go 2.0
-
Yes, That and the surrounding creases are the biggest issue. Depending on the size of the chip you are looking at a 3.5-4.0 hit IMO. Top staple wear and other edge/corner issues plus edge tanning cost you the rest of the hit. If any staples become detached the grade will drop hard. Throwing this out to a few other folks for their thoughts. @Deadpoolica @theCapraAegagrus @Azkaban @comicginger1789

PGM JLA 28 (Harsh Grade?)
ChrispyC66 replied to Samgdoug's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I agree with DP, that it will be hard to tell with it slabbed, but I see two areas where there are possible stains, 1- to the left of Aquaman’s sign might be a tide line or maybe just soiled. 2- it looks like there are dark spots on The bottom edge of the BC and LLBC. Keep in mind “cover” in the notes can be front or back if the grader isn’t specific. The LRFC edge/corner is bent with small creases and it looks like there are two short printers creases on the LLBC and I think you might be able to see one of them on Supe’s leg on the opposite side. IMO - A 7.0 seems harsh to me, but I wouldn’t give it better than an 8.0. -
THE GRADE IS IN - PGM X-Men 136
ChrispyC66 replied to converseba's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Yeah I think the edge rubs at URFC and MRFC hurt bad,URFC corner crease looks bad with edge rub and the LRFC has some issues. Minor issues on BC. Where did the fingerprint come from in pic 2? I don’t see it in pic 1. What did the graders notes say? -
4.5, Outside chance at 5.0

4.5 to me.

I only have a few Hulk BA issues. I love these covers, especially 201, 202 and 206. I added KSA 5 as well. Excuse the condition these were well read. -

Happy Mother’s Day! How did Mom/Grandmother shape your comics life

My first issue I could remember getting was FF165 off a spinner rack at a local supermarket, which is long gone now, but I still have that comic to this day. -

Spoken like a true lion! -
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms! I thought I’d share some thoughts about how my mother affected my comic book life. When I was growing up in the 70s it was my mother that actually got me started reading comic books. She supported me when buying comics. She bought me my first comic at the local grocery store. She bought me comics when I was sick. She kept my dad off my back, when he thought I was wasting my time reading “that junk”. She wrote my name on the inside cover of some of my comics so my friends wouldn’t take him (she had a light touch). She allowed me to ride my bicycle into town to the General store every week, after I got my paper route money, to buy more comics. She recognized the pleasure and happiness I got from reading and collecting them and I appreciate that to this day. I used comics to expand my vocabulary and break out of being that shy little boy. Mom has been gone for more than 20 years but the memories live on. Thanks, Mom.

Made A Heart-Breaking Discovery Today...
ChrispyC66 replied to Number 6's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
This is an ironic post... I had three PRs. I listened to them all one last time on Friday, scanned them, pressed each comic, then bagged and boarded them one last time. I sold them to a friend with a local Antique store for his grand re-opening after the CV-19 shutdown. Just listening to the FF one brought back vivid memories from 40+ years ago. I think it’s why the Thing has been my favorite character forever. I sold them for $5 each and told him they’re worth $15-$20 each. Here are the scans of my three. -
What was the point to slabbing any of these?
ChrispyC66 replied to William-James88's topic in Comics General
I think the topic devolved to include the drek, but I think @FlyingDonut has a good point. For some they are dumping books they missed a 9.8 (check Moon Knight, FF 161 GI Joe and Marvel Age 90 as good examples of books that are overvalued in 9.8. My opinion is that there are a number of reasons to answer the OP. Maybe we can make it a poll question? Here are my Top10 reasons people slab comics that aren’t with the plastic polymers they are encased in: 10. I know the publisher and he asked me to get it slabbed 9. There’s a movie buzz about this book 8. Cover price is .10, .12, .15, .20... 7. I need one more 9.8 for a complete run of... 6. It was the first comic I ever owned 5. This copy will be the first 9.8 on the CGC census 4. It has 10 cool covers and I want all of them in 9.8 3. It’s worth something to someone, right? 2. Comic Tom and Key Collector has it in a Top 10 this week and the number 1 reason is... 1. @greggy hasn’t slabbed this book yet @1Cool -
It’s not a bad looking copy, for sure! Unfortunately, the spine area and edge wear will get you a lower NM grade.
-
Agree with @comicginger1789. Too many light spine issues And minor staple wear. I’d grade it at 9.4.
-
I’m at 9.0 due to Same reasons as @csaag plus corner light rounding issues on FC and something on the BC spine area near lower staple.
