  1. Take photos of all your art, whether it's being consigned now or not. At some point, someone will need that information.
  2. I got my Comic Connect shipment today. It was a little delayed because the initial invoice did not include shipping costs, so I had to pay that two weeks after I thought I was done. It would be a good idea if they didn't make the invoice payable until it is complete.
  3. Among my recent acquisitions: I already had three Dheeraj Verma pages from Conan the Slayer #12. I just got the three pages after each of these, making them double page spreads. Except one is actually pages 11 and 12 and thus didn't appear as a spread, but whatever.
  4. I posted it on Facebook. The very last entry I think should have read "Spider-Man #257" not "Spider-Man #7." Do you have a CAF Gallery? You could move these pieces into a "stolen pages" gallery that would make it easy to consult in the future.
  5. Horrible. Seems to me that Heritage and USPS should be putting out a warning about this until the culprit is found. You should post about this on the Original Comic Art Collectors group on Facebook since it has far more members than we have here. Or I can do it for you if you don't use Facebook.
  6. I hate to say that discovering they were fenced is the best case scenario for a fragile collectible that can't be easily sold at the local pawn shop.
  7. I really like the colors on this one. Some Frazetta (even the famed Egyptian Queen) have incredible anatomy and composition but come across as pale. This one has that bright flash of crimson cape, and the main figures (skeleton, tentacle, or human) are readily discernible. If Halperin gets tired of it, he can look me up!

  9. Other pages in the issue have this same border technique and make it clear that this is Cyclops' optic blasts going crazy. You can see his face on the left side of this page, for instance. But he didn't make it onto the page I posted previously.
  10. Pencil and ink pages are difficult to find together since the pencilers and inkers tend to each keep their own pages. Likewise color guides kept by the colorist. Other types of pages: Covers, pin ups, patch pages, lettercols, frontispiece, table of contents.
  11. Bill Cox's convention site is actually next to Universal Studios park, not on Disney property. I believe January was chosen because it's a down time for the resort business, being generally too cold to swim. I took my family to Disney last February, and we it was so cold we had to go to the Norway section of EPCOT to buy wool sweaters and ski hats!

  13. I did this as well with a cover I got recently from a crowdfunded comic book. Shading was added digitally to the main character, probably by the colorist. I had the original artist add similar shading to the paper version and am quite happy with the results. He is going to do the same for me for the next cover in the series.
  14. I know you're being facetious... but yes, at least for me it makes a difference whether the artist is repairing damage done by time to his own work, or whether someone else is doing paste-ups onto the pages.
  15. I picked up two old and inexpensive convention sketches from artists I like, so I'm happy. Plus four pages that were just part of Metropolis' standing "for sale" collection, so they are probably happy too.
  16. Comic book pages were often produced on tight deadlines, and authors sometimes took shortcuts that impacted the long-term appearance of the art. Bill Sienkiewicz was discussing today that he might use marker instead of india ink when time was short. What are your thoughts on having artists retouch their own work which has faded with time, like fixing faded blacks? Does the improved appearance diminish its value because it's "no longer original" even though it's being restored to something that looks like the original, by the same artist who originally did it?

  20. Nice one, Rick! Here are some of my recent Morlock acquisitions. First, a pair of pages from Brian Stelfreeze, from an Oracle story in DC Showcase '94. I got these from him at Lake Como. Here's Nick Bradshaw with a Medusa page from the series Inhumanity. Nick mainly does covers now, in his Art Adams-influenced style. And one by Peter Mayhew from X-Men: Gold. Here's a Geof Darrow acquisition from Lake Como: Finally, this Marco Rudy DPS was Morlock-priced when considered per-page, so I'm posting it here. It's from the 2014 edition of Uncanny X-Men.
  21. I mean, every published comic book is a print of the original art. But not an 11x17 black and white print without word balloons.
