  1. the votes so far....... Marvel 1 - 8 Batman 1 - 5
  2. I guess I never really understood that one...if you scrape the very minor amount of glue off, it likely doesn't affect the grade (at least not that much or it would be in a purple label), etc, so how is that restored or why does it need to be qualified (it already states on the label it is there)? sure, someone at one point decided that a drop of glue would maybe prevent something (not sure what the glue is doing or what it is holding or if it is serving any purpose at all) from getting worse, but that doesn't affect the fact that it is a VF copy, does it? or maybe it would knock it down to a vf-?...this whole mentality that something that minor should be considered "restored" is just rediculous in my book ...Black hand, this post was not in any way directed specifically at you, I just used it to illustrate my point that many many seem to feel that way...now, this is just my opinion, so I am not saying someone else's opinion is not any more correct or valid than mine...I just don't get it? gator uh oh.....here we go again................ I agree with Black_Hand, and am probably in the minority. Rick, you are correct...very minor glue could be easily removed, and that might create a slight drop in grade due to the loss of paper/cover the glue sat on. Maybe an 8.0 would become a 7.5. I think Black_Hands point, and mine as well....is that unrestored books don't have "very minor" anything done to them....glue, color touch....whatever....that's what makes them unrestored! Glue or CT notes make a black and white issue an uneeded and confusing shade of gray. While on this subject....the qualified label doesn't help clarify things much either. This Marvel 1 is gorgeous....it's not about that...it's the label being in Black_Hand's (assuming I am reading his post right) and my opinion being made of smoke and mirrors instead of paper
  3. BATTLE ROYALE !!! Both of these GA Pedigree Mega-keys sold for approx $105,000 in 2006. Grader's notes on Marvel 1 - "very minor amount of glue on cover" Which one would you choose, and why ?
  4. Because she's not wearing any underwear? That too....but it's because she looks like Robin, the Boy Wonder. Bang...you're a man after my own heart. Black_Hand ....you are kinda' close.....
  5. ...and the one that is circled is exceptionally valuable and in high demand. Can anyone answer the question as to why? ( yes, of course I know why...this is a test!)
  6. Yes, I realize that. It's just a comic book geek version of "Ginger or Mary Ann", all in good fun. I look at those two Green Lantern books, and with my inability to factor in "futures/investment", I can't begin to imagine choosing a common Bronze Age book like GL 76 over a relatively scarce Golden Age book like GL 1. No contest at all because I'm as likely to pay $9000 for GL 76 as I am to be elected president of the USA. See, I can play the game, but some of the choices puzzle me. Jack Mary Ann The Professor
  7. The books in question here sold for $9,000 each.....that's ALOT of $$$ for a comic book. If being intellectually honest with yourself ( not YOUR self...oneself ), it would be foolish to choose simply what you like in this price range, without thoughts of "down the road" consequences. My comments above were not made out of greed...they were based on what I would do if this was a "real life" decision I was making. When spending $75 on a comic book, you can 100% focus on strictly what you like.....when it becomes $9,000 spent, the investment / future outlook side must be dealt with, as every book that I own and everyone on these Boards owns will one day be sold, traded, or passed down....you can't take 'em with you! You don't want pay for a USDA Prime steak, and end up with a moldy slither of grissle ! Steve
  8. I did...it was called Oldbuck, and look what happened
  9. 1st of all Sean I am happy to see someone other than me contributing to this thread.....so please feel free to keep 'em comin'! As for this match up, as much as I loathe the thought of buying comics printed after 1969, with this much $$ at stake, I would go with the hot book that had the upside ---- GL76. GL1 is flat / not exciting / not going anywhere from what I can tell, and the GL76 in 9.4 seems to have "the magic" that could / should keep it escalating in desirability and value. With that dark green cover with full bleed to the edge, I just can't imagine a whole bunch of 9.4's being handed out by CGC and flooding the market to the point that the book becomes devalued. Tec 27 which eventually launched Bat 1 --- both books have great appeal / demand. AA16 which eventually launched GL1 --- not even close...AA16 is such a superior, high demand book compared to GL1, they are not even on the same planet Steve
  10. Both sold for $13,100 in 2006. Which one would you choose, and why ?
  11. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220151677434&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=012
  12. George, it's just not fair .....you can't buy up all the sweet Tecs on the market, and leave the rest of us with scraps! Steve
  13. George.....you're a real animal! ( I mean that in a good way ). If it cost 50 cents to get around the world, I coudn't afford to get out of sight, and you're buying up $25,000+ GA keys like they were candy! (thumbs u Steve
  14. Man if this isn't the best GA Classic Bat Cover, I don't know what is
  15. .....same auction for the same price...March of 2003 / both sold for $14,950. Which one would you choose, and why ? I'll take the Fox, WHITE paged, Lou Fine cover Church #1.....because it is a Fox, WHITE paged, Lou Fine cover Church #1
  16. This is a "retaliation post" directed towards Mr. Bedrock...AKA Richard Evans. He refuses to pick a single book in my "which one would you choose?" thread, and always says "I'll take both!". I am posting here because I know he's a Timely guy, and I will upset his apple cart when he sees this, just as he has upset mine. You looking for a new Timely to be posted Rich?.....well here you go. Oh...wait a minute....this isn't a Timely! This is the "Action 1 of Big Little Books", Mickey Mouse The Mail Pilot #731 rare variation, with only 2 known copies to exist. Try sending this one to CGC Rich, you Marvel Mystery lovin', "which one would you choose?" thread cheater !!!!! Steve
  17. a historic moment for this thread.........the sales price was $6350 in 2005. Which one of these 3 would you choose, and why ?
  18. to the suprise of some ( like Ciorac most likely ), I would have to go with the MF53. I do not know enough about OA to spend $90k on this particular piece....which I do not find to be esthetically pleasing, not to mention that it's page 12 -- and yes, I realize it's from Marvel #1!! When playing this game, I always pretend that $$ being spent is real, and for $90k of cold hard cash to leave my bank account, I need a sure thing wanted by many potential buyers in case I went to sell in the future. Don't know how large the audience is for this piece of historic OA. I would however choose a piece of OA for $90k over the MF53 if it was something really spectacular like an early Batman cover or Splash page, Action 7 cover, etc etc ( if those pieces could be had for that little, that is )
  19. a little OA vs.GA...... the OA is by Bill Everett -- page 12 of Marvel Comis #1. The Heritage auction description called it a "Masterpiece". The MF speaks for itself. Both sold in 2005 for a blended average of approx. $90,000. Which one would you choose, and why ?
  20. This is the 3rd highest graded unrestored copy, and I'm not worried about the pages turning brittle anytime soon.....
  21. So now my 7.5 with white pages that WAS the highest graded issue is now the second highest graded. What are the odds of there being three issues from 1941 being graded and two of them having white pages? And how improbable is it that it would be a Fiction House comic? Aside from my instant urge to strangle you for taking away my highest graded status, that's a beautiful book. Well Seank, here's what I would do for you.......... I don't want to see you in prison for strangling me, and I would hate to be strangeld anyway ( sounds violent and icky ). I would sell my highest graded 29 to you for $2,000 ( a very fair price considering it's NM- , has WHITE pages, and is the highest graded copy likely never to be topped ). You could sell your VF- for .....oh, let's say $750. This means for $1250 out of your pocket after your sale, you can go back to owning the highest graded copy with identical unimprovable PQ. The offer is on the table buddy....you can let my book really bother you, or you can make it yours! Steve
  22. this one is low grade, and has crappy PQ....but I really like the cover, so what the heck.....
