  1. Hepcat, There is still something going on with the boards. The page count showed 23 with you as the most current poster, but I had to create a new post in order to see your latest post. Great collections! A few baseball cards from my collection. 1958 1968 1961
  2. What an amazing leap forward in artistic quality from the prior months panels. Did the person doing the art work change between March and April 1941?
  3. Great story Silver. (thumbs u Between you, Steel City, Mr Bedrock, Hepcat, and others there have been some awesome Adventure books on these threads recently. Keep up the great work. I recall the sense of awe as a kid when I was able to read an 80 pager or a Giant size book. You knew you had a solid 30 minutes or more of reading or more. Seeing your Flash 100 pager reminds me, I picked up that book last year at a convention, and have yet to read it yet.
  4. Those BlackHawks are cool and they have many great covers but my budget isn't quite ready for another series to collect. A few more books heading my way and the first one is like an old friend coming home and I bought it as a VF+ or possibly a VF/NM off one of the most respected dealers around. I believe I sold it as the same grade and the board member had it slabbed. I'm not sure what flaws CGC found and I sure was very pleased with it. This issue is great to have back in my collection and I included my original copy as a freebie to "Subliminal" on one of my few sales threads. Love this cover. You have some excellent war books there. OAAW #182. I hear you on collecting focus. I for one have too many series started and lately have been working primarily on just two titles.
  5. "Stolen"? That's overstating the case by half. From Wikipedia: Here are scans of a few more comics starring Oswald and friends: New Funnies 122 New Funnies 215 New Funnies 237 257 Random House File copy 258 Random House File copy 275 279 Random House File copy Beautiful run of New Funnies! The "regular" icon's just didnt suffice.
  6. I thoroughly enjoy the kryptonite stories, but have not had the pleasure of reading Adventure 299.
  7. Nowhere near the class of recent books being posted, but it's kind of interesting to know that mixed in with all of the green, gold, red etc. kryptonite there was even jewel kryptonite.
  8. Terrific book! I have to agree, it's was sad to hear of Davy Jones passing. For a few years in the late 60's the Monkees had many neat songs.
  9. My lone copy of a Red Ryder comic, thus far. Anyone else have any Red Ryder's to share? #73
  10. Wow! beautiful Thanks. I like the white pages especially. That will help sell the book when I decide to sell it. SLR Fabulous Book. A toast, or as close as we may approach that on line, is in order.
  11. A couple more Blackhawks. This issue retells the origin. It is 2nd issue after the new look uniforms, but they are only seen on a few pages. Of the issues I own this is my favorite cover.
  12. The start of the 'new look' uniforms for Blackhawk. I thought their original uniforms were pretty cool.
  13. Thanks Andy and Mike. Thanks to the mighty Paratrooper I have a few more beauties on the way and I found a few more I purchased from E-bay that still need to be scanned. A Russ Heath cover I've been searching for three years or more. Thanks Vaughn!! Some very nice books. Navy Action #6, that's one "heavyweight" battleship.
  14. Good luck in the auction Steve. Sticking with Rip Hunter, I have issue 14, another DC comic with a bubble cover.
  15. Skipping ahead 8 years from HOM #47 book, Rip Hunter is hosting a beauty contest. Aug 1964
  16. Great cover. Cover art by Ruben Moreira, per GCD.
  17. First "new look" Batman. Wonder if it will ever be recognized as such? Eddie Dont know if it constitutes new look since there is no yellow around the bat on his chest? The next issue, 142 does. Did this come out same month as Detective 327? I thought that book was always considered the first new look? I checked on the issue dates for both WF 141 and Detective 327. Both have cover dates of May 1964. Possibly WF 141 was ready for the presses before the "new look" was devised for Detective 327.
  18. This book is past my normal collecting range, but has a cool back cover. # 253 March 1985
  19. I think I read in one of my behind-the-scenes Mad books (probably "Mad Cover to Cover" by Frank Jacobs) that William Gaines and Al Feldstein always allowed for one "easy" cover per year. I think it gave them a month off from deadline worries and such -- probably the month before or after they went on their yearly trip (Gaines treated the core staff to an all-expenses-paid international vacation each year). Among the "easiest" Mad covers is also the "Mad Lowers Its Price!" cover which shows the same price but at the bottom of the page. And then there's the big "SEX" cover which is bright pink on a black background. That's a favorite. Another good one is the variant cover that supposedly says the actual numerical number of each issue printed (though there are only 4 different numbers, but you'd have to flip back through the newsstand a bit to figure that out). The whole trend was obviously started by Harvey Kurtzman with his conceptual covers during the comic-book phase. Scrolling down it looks like somebody else has posted a few. Interesting. That really makes sense from a publishing point of view. Mad still get a gag cover, but with minimal artistic effort and time involved.
  20. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a fully accredited lab assistant like this one? I can think of several options. A) Recheck the Mad Mad scientist Lab instruction booklets fine print. B) Check your local yellow pages. C) Turn on your charm and do your Hollywood best, aka Tyrone Power! Check and see how Tyrone Power gets his gal in the movie A Yank in the RAF. He does cross into Canada to begin the movie! Tyrone Power in "A Yank in the RAF"
  21. Movin on, how about "The Fightin' Five"? #39
