  1. I love Cap as a character, but as a comic book, Marvel 1 always trumps Cap 1 for me due to the great history entrenched in it....Goodman, a master pulp distributer, taking on and publishing a comic book for the first time in his career while enlisting Jacquet's army of qualified artists....Frank Torpey's name appearing later in the Marvel Mystery 9 Torch/Subby battle story is quite entertaining...but I'm the only one that cares about that none sense in the 2019 collector's world.
  2. There really aren't too many full front, large Supe covers in the early Actions. 7 is by far the best and largest image of him. 1,10,13 he is drawn relatively small. 15 is larger but it's a side shot and I have never liked the cover too much overall. 17 he is small again. 19 is large but the green logo is odd. 20 is semi good but missing the S on his chest. I really like 21 - good pose and decent size of him facing front. 22 he is small again. 23 is a nice large pose but now it's getting late into the game (1940).
  3. agreed. Although the 10 is the toughest of the three without question.
  4. The 33 cover swiped from Flessel’s Speed Saunders story from Tec 13 is always fun to look at
  5. Eye appeal for the grade, price point, and what "other" copies that are available play a role for wavering sale prices. Must check the all important 6 boxes for eye appeal on an FF1 for me Hope you get your price
  6. Great artist and Kane’s primary ghost artist for Batman.
  7. I keep trading them for each other back and forth
  8. good suggestions Art, but shouldn't you be in the DD thread?!
  9. FF 13 is one of the few Marvel issues that Ditko inked a Kirby drawn interior (Hulk 2 being the other I can think of).
  10. True. Almost any early, 10/12 cent bubble Marvel grabs me. I do like FF 14 because it's the first "side bar" issue in the run. Marvel went to the new side bar (credited to Steve Ditko) look with all titles with a publishing date of MAY 1963 (FEB '63 real time) that branded the company. That would include ASM 2 and JIM 91 to name a few...
  11. his grading is pretty tight on raw books which is great...he does get nice golden age occasionally but it sells quickly. I was happy to grab some Timelys from him a few years ago...
  12. 6 and 9 have always been favorites of mine, and I think both could be spec books down the road...I remember buying a 6 in low grade for $10 off the wall of a LCS...
  13. agreed. Personally, I think 1-13 are really essential...all the early, 12 cent bubble price issues...
  14. Here a a couple of Timelys that I stretched quite a bit for at the time. I got the photo journals in 1994, and it was quite a journey from that point (1996) - All Select 1 app. VF+ (slight color touch, CF reinforced) $5900 (2000) - Cap 1 FAIR $4400 (2000) - Cap 3 VG $2700
  15. agreed. I have that book and it's a wealth of great insiders info.
  16. True, also when doing a transaction with a dealer it's often a one on one experience at an LCS, con, or the old school phone/mail order. Online Auction houses are just type your bid, click, watch, and win/lose.
  17. Shame on me, I forgot to mention Mr. Bedrock ...I did say to name a few and I'm sure I am forgetting a few more.
  18. I have acquired some of my favorite golden age books from Bunky, Gator, Adam/Danielle, Harley, and Superworld Ted (to name a few).
