  1. Barry is an interesting cat. The first time I met him was at the first Collector's Summit in Dallas. He set his display up on one of the center tables and one of the items was a More Fun 74 that was incredibly and unnaturally white. Understand that this was a meeting of high-end, established collectors and dealers, all of whom at that time probably had more experience handling books than he did. So I may have been out of line when I picked up the More Fun to examine it more closely, but I was really amused when he said "THAT’S AN EXPENSIVE GOLDEN AGE COMIC. DON'T TOUCH IT!"
  2. Auctioneer - "Be the first to $10,000. You want to be the first to $10,000 before the increments increase! ... ....and sold for $4500!"
  3. It looks great. Find some vintage staples, but even without staples it looks wonderful.
  4. "Imagine if this were a Tom Mix #65! Why, it would be absolutely worthless! What am I bid?"
  5. That's a very valid point. My impression is that he had been dabbling for a few years, but went nuts spending in the last twelve months. It is surprising that he flipped stuff so quickly, but my assumption is that he felt he would at least get close to his purchase price. On a couple of these I think he got pretty well hammered. A big investor will understand certain losses, but the losses taken here might leave a very bad taste.
  6. I suppose. But some of the health of the hobby is based on the trickle down spending of these new nose-bleed level collectors. If they are getting hammered then that money goes elsewhere and prices up and down the board will be affected. The particular buyer who consigned these books didn't fare well at all and probably won't be back.
  7. Aww ok, I swear I thought I remember a 7.0 selling for like $1.5 mil at some point, maybe after that 2.6 mil but I may be thinking of something else. Pretty close after the 7.0 sale it was announced the the 8.0 Church sold for $5.5mil and was subsequently upgraded to 8.5.
  8. I think this exact book sold in 2021 through Comic Connect for a little over $2.6mil
  9. Really? I guess it depends on perspective. Most of these big books previously changed hands privately and I think money has been lost on most of them.
  10. "If this were an Amazing Fantasy 15..." Well, it would be an Amazing Fantasy 15 - not this turd we are trying to auction off.
  11. Some of those books have less than 20 copies available ... and as many as two or three mildly interested buyers!
  12. Oh I don't either. It may not even hit what I sold it for. But it will be interesting to see.
