  1. If I may chime in here to clarify that it isn't exactly politic-al, so hopefully the mod(s) don't reign down on me for shedding a little more light on what's happening in San Francisco. I'm going to talk about law, which does not break the rules of speaking about prohibited subject matter. This is a legality measure that's created a sort of loophole in San Fran; it's similar to principles that retail stores like Border's Books used to have wherein employees were literally told not to confront observed shoplifters- their rationale was because of the risk of a mistake even then which would lead to a lawsuit. As a result, theft from bookstores was quite commonplace. What's happening in SF is a result of a change in law that reclassified theft as a misdemeanor. Now to the OP, I can't remember what the limit is to keep it as a misdemeanor (I am sharing this from memory and believe this became the norm in 2015? 16? Around there) but it certainly can't be a limit of over $1,000, surely. As your collection is clearly worth MORE than a grand- this would therefore make it more than a misdemeanor so it essentially should be investigated tho' you likely have to wait for them to turn their attention towards it. I'm sorry, I know it's frustrating. But basically, this is what's going on in that city- it's a kind of loophole and since people know about it, it's emboldened them a bit more to take risks.
  2. I do not think Image Comics deserves any credit for making this adjustment, not really a decision. Sixty two statements are sixty two too many. I've long heard people whine about "separating the artist from the art" but I think that's selfish indulgence not really considering empathy for victims. I enjoyed some of Gary Glitter's glam rock stompers but guess what- I can't listen to them anymore. Ellis can't make amends and anything he does would seem forced in order to return to the comics industry.
  3. You are correct there. But thieves are smarter than me because I don't steal from artists. I guess my friend Kav is just flattered if people steal his work.
  4. If the art was *stolen* from the publisher from an editor- that violates work for hire law. This post was about artwork stolen from Marvel.
  5. How do you know this? Why are you assuming? So the 1966 request is "when suddenly the art was worth something"? The memo in 1967 was suddenly then, too? The talks for a guild in 1968 and 1970 for artwork return was that too? BWS's comments in 1971?? You guys don't even KNOW about these things and you're making these moral statements, it's laughable! You guys grew up reading Wizard and checking the price guide only or what??
  6. If I was hired to draw a political cartoon for a paper.. and the publisher literally didn't care about the art.. and I found out a kid proofreader took it to sell it... I'd be completely justified in being upset.
  7. You didn't generate most of the stuff in the MCU or the New God's concepts in DC's films, Kav. You weren't given false promises or had your writer and plotter's pay stolen from you. I'm sorry you think you're on the same level. And hey, I like your work Kav. But you being fine with being exploited doesn't justify it.
  8. Yes, and then... OTHER PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T HIRE HIM FOR THAT ART BEGAN *SELLING* THAT ART. That's the catalyst. I think most artists would be a little peeved.
  9. There is absolutely no way Marv and Len would have access to as many Marvel pages as they were selling without an inside person at Marvel. Simple as that.
  10. That's not the word many of us heard which was that years of documented evidence often ignored by lazy "historians" and dozens of contradictory statements were going to poke massive and impossible to ignore flaws in the myth that Marvel's owners desperately need to continue. And for all the disrespect shown to Kirby, again, not relying on hearsay from years of people saying things in passing would be helpful here: Kirby wanted benefits because his daughter had asthma. He felt- rightfully- he had contributed enough to get a health plan and be made an employee. The new owners didn't agree so Kirby went. Acting like he should be grateful to Martin Goodman is woefully warped.
  11. Kav, you've admitted before how much you didn't know about specifics and comics history. You shouldn't agree to something like this without spending considerable time researching and comparing and contrasting the facts. I don't think teaching someone a lesson because "they had their chance" logic is moral at all.
  12. Because the guy who plotted and generated the majority of the MCU doesn't deserve his artwork, on paper and with ink he paid for. Who said he didn't want it for profit but to leave for his grandchildren. Got it. I'm glad you guys aren't running corporations.
  13. Oh right! *I'm* sorry, I should have known that. Yeah, I love Jeff Jones's work
  14. Ya, she went pixie at the beginning of this year. She also wanted to cosplay as Billy Jack. My girlfriend is crazy. Do you mean Sekowsky? Yeah we have all that stuff, a lot of his romance stuff too.
  15. Correct Sir. She already dresses that way most of the time to begin with and is real into vintage clothing so it could be a fit except she cut her hair earlier this year!
  16. I knew other guys who liked comics but we were into different things so there wasn't a lot I could share. When I was a teenager I was real into Golden Age and comic strips and then Evan Dorkin stuff but all my peers were into Youngblood and Spawn... not knocking those things, just disinterested. My gal is a serious collector who especially digs old teen and romance comics and is taking me to the Lily Renee Golden Age exhibit in NYC later this summer- so I lucked out there. She's considering cosplaying in the near future and she's leaning towards Nelvana or Mod Wonder Woman.
  17. I'm broke as a joke otherwise I'd be very into that for the simple fact that I'm a big fan of Tom "Billy Jack" Laughlin! I wish Dynamite or someone would work out a licensing deal with his children to make a Billy Jack comic actually.
  18. This only has 1 episode so far so we'll see if there's further episodes:
  19. Greggy, I'm here because Kav is very worried about you. Also, Kav wants your comics if anything (god forbid) happens to you. (Kav, how'd I do... remember, I want all Greggy's Darkhawk #1s if he hands them over, that was our deal)
  20. I have one of her books (one! hundred! demons!) and read an interview in TCJ not long ago I think...an interesting artists, for sure.
  21. I am enjoying these Greggy things so much more than if I knew who that was or what the context is. Great work fellas!
  22. I believe you're correct and it's similar to the 90s' speculator boom. The Comic Bros are the QVCs and Gareb Shamuses of today. I think people who collect for the long haul can ride this out but a lot of "personalities" are going to be disappointed. But maybe the slab bros are their own community now and have begat enough of them to keep buying each other's auctions.
  23. I mean in regards to the Comic Collecting Market and where you speculate things will be- no psychic predictions of Super Bowl winners, please But really, I respect and value the opinions and input of the members of this community very much. Where do you think comics will be? Will people stop speculating? Will the comic bros on YouTube stop talking about slabs? Will conventions returning help drive up prices? Any and all responses appreciated.
