When I was 14 (1984) I went into my local comic shop and told the owner I was collecting Amazing Spiderman, and wanted the worst copy of AF15 possible (it was all a 14 year old could afford, even then!). He told me he had a copy and we agreed I would work in the comic shop to pay the $75 it cost!! Imagine a 14 year old these days getting an AF15! Total garbage ... still my prized comic!

Weirdly - I have no idea how I came to have this book! Stopped collecting 35 years ago as a 15 year old, and was never into Superman! I suspect this was part of a bigger trade deal, and someone older than me convinced me it was a good book to have! It looks like I'm going to become known as the king of the copies!

IMO this book grades at...
1.5 FAIR/GOOD (FR/GD): Back to Top
Shows substantial to heavy wear. Books in this grade are commonly creased, scuffed, abraded, soiled, and possibly unattractive, but still generally readable. Cover shows considerable wear and may be detached. Almost no cover reflectivity remaining. Book-length creases, tears and folds may be present. Rounded corners are increasingly common. Soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing is generally present. Up to 1/10 of the back cover may be missing. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are increasingly common in Silver Age and older books. Spine roll is common. May have a spine split between 2" and 2/3 the length of the book. Staples may be degraded, replaced or missing. Staple tears and stress lines are common, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown and may show brittleness around the edges. Acidic odor may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached. Interior tears are common.BTW...there is nothing wrong with "Well Loved" copies, your copy is in better shape than mine and yours is 100% better than those who do not own any copy.
IMO, any collector would be Proud to have that copy in their collection.
When I was 15, I just wanted a complete run of ASM 1-33. I achieved it, until some B@£*&%d stole half of them! Still, I've got my ASM-3, and it looks great for a 1.5-2.0
Wait til you see my AF15 and my ASM-1! Appalling condition!

I'll never forget MY best purchases as a 15-year-old...
[goes to long box, pulls out NM copies of X-Factor #1, The Nam #1 and each of the New Universe titles]
Erm... nevermind.
Well ... I was 15 in 1985, and these books were a 'bit' more affordable then! I also bought a bunch of books that never went up in value: Alpha Flight, Marvel Fanfare, Cerebus, etc...

Interesting that some people gave yours a 5.5, and some gave mine a 6.0. Funny to see another copy! Not sure how rare it is, but you don't see many of them. Maybe people don't show them off very often as it's less dramatic than other LB Cole covers. I would give you a grade but I'm so out of touch, I'm hesitant. That's why I'm on here getting my books graded!

A 6.0 that looks like an 8.0 is an amazing result! Will repost if I get round to slabbing it. Thanks everyone! I've just pulled this out of the old collection after 35 years. More soon!

Lovely LB Cole cover, don't see many around. Hoping for a decent grade! I think these books have recently started getting hot?
