Not sure how the economic climate can be anymore favorable when you've got unemployment at a decades low, inflation dropping back down, and all 3 of the major stock market indicies setting new record closes on an almost daily basis. hm  (shrug)

Consumer confidence index is down. Lot’s of uncertainty in the tech/business sector. Not saying that has an impact on someone spending $30k on a comic book. But perhaps those who may have been bidding 18 months ago felt better about putting that money into the market since it's, as you say, setting new record closes almost daily?

The final price including the 15% buyers premium was $31,165.

Thanks for the correction, my good sir! I have yet to bid with Comic Connect, so wasn't sure if it was added immediately because the addition of the 15% buyers premium comment is still present in the listing.

Figured this would be an appropriate time to revive this thread considering I noticed last night that the current CC Event Auction has this book finishing up later today:  :cloud9:

Currently sitting at only $20K without the 15% BP juice and my bet is that it will have no problems surpassing $30K and possibly even approach, if not allso surpass $40K.  Especially considering that it is tied with 2 others for the highest graded copy to date and the fact that this is acknowledged by many to be their favorite of the classic Frazetta Famous Funnies covers.  :luhv:

Heck, even the less popular Famous Funnies 212 in CGC 9.0 was able to fetched $30K in a Heritage Auction last summer, so this much more in demand cover should have no problems rocketing even further up into the stratosphere by the time the final 3-minute extended bidding comes to an end.    :taptaptap:

Dream book! :cloud9: Auction finished north of $31K, with juice, taxes, shipping etc, you're looking at around $33K to get this it in hand [EDITED to account for 15% buyer premium already included in the $31,165 price]. I did expect this book to reach above $40K...perhaps in a more favorable economic climate, it would have?

I should have upgraded my 2.5 already :tonofbricks:. At least I can take solace in the perception that mine presents nicely for the grade :x

Nice, thank you.  Had to get some Frazetta horror.  Plus, I think this book was in SOTI for a hanging panel.

Awesome grab, love me some Beware #10!

But there's some confusion/misinformation about this book being referenced in SOTI. I believe Beware #12 from Youthful's first 1952 run is referenced, and also Beware #6 from Youthful/Trojan's second run in 1953, but not Beware #10 from that second run. I'm open to be corrected on this as I'm not a SOTI expert . Still an awesome book inside and out, classic pre-code horror with a fantastic red dressed Frazetta girl being pulled down into a cold grave by dirty zombies!

I got mine from Amazon and it was packed very well! It came double boxed. The inside box had the Tashen box that was sealed from Tashen, shrink wrapped the box to a piece of cardboard the size of the inside of the shipping outer box so the book doesn't slide around during shipping. It came to me in perfect condition!

Going to buy the FF Tashen next from Amazon.

I’ve ordered artist books in the past from Amazon and they shipped them in large flimsy boxes with no protection, save for a strip of plastic bag air pockets which did nothing to prevent damage. Upon return with comments to ship with better packaging and more protection, they shipped another dinged up book back to me the exact same way. Glad to hear Amazon is stepping up their shipping methods with these fine art books. But for me, I just as well avoid that headache when I can!

  6. I pre-ordered the Famous First Edition through mycomicshop back on Aug 31st, which is nice that you get a decent discount ($180) by ordering early through the previews catalog. I don't trust Amazon's shoddy shipping, yeah its free but I'm ok paying the $5 mycomicshop charges; they ship in a tank. Been anxiously awaiting the shipping date! Was hoping to have it in hand to coincide with Frank's birthday but, alas, the order was updated this week and it will ship Feb 8th so it will just miss the Feb 9th birth date!

That collectors edition is beautiful, got me thinking of ordering it as well 😍

only problem now I need upgrade for 215

Congratulations on completing the set! What a relief, right? It's a beautiful set, and your 214 is very nice 😍. I completed my set this year, and just as you're looking to upgrade your 215, I'm hungry to upgrade my 214! There's something insatiable about this run...I find it hard to quell the pangs of jealousy I get when I see other collectors' sets. 😂 Its the Frazetta effect!

I was the underbidder on your old 214 @Ricksneatstuff, and sad to not have pulled it in! Sorry you had to let those beauties go, but I'm happy that you're replacing them with a new home! Congrats

Well, for you lucky holders of Famous Funnies 215, it looks like this latest CL Auction result from last week clearly confirms this book's a keeper:  :luhv:

Sold for a strong price of $5,100 for a CGC 5.0 graded copy which leads me to think that your 7.5 copy should have no problems hitting 5-figures which represents a rocket of an increase from the high 3-figures or very low 4-figures that a CGC 7.5 graded copy would have garnered a short decade ago.  :Rocket:

Definitely a fair result! I agree with P5, I do like the colors (a deep emerald green color strike and red on the trade dress scores extra on this book 🤤) and overall structure of this copy, but the crease leaves much to be desired in the cover presentation! Following up the 6.0 Frazetta estate copy that ended up at $9K on Heritage in July, the consignor might have hoped for more? 🤔 I’ve always felt 215 should be held among the most desirable copies in the run with 213 and 214. It’s staying strong 💪

Frazetta has the only sig that adds to a vintage book, imo. Very cool.

I agree, his signature style has that je ne sais quoi? its distinctly Frazetta, trademark that enhances the image!

Small distinction: The book is for sale, not sold.

It was marked as pending as of my posting, and marked sold as of 12 hours ago. Not sure on the negotiated price, but definitely sold. The Heritage auction winner had to move it for whatever reason, so congrats to the new owner!

  11. I see that there are late issue Famous Funnies from the Promise Collection Pedigree in an upcoming Heritage auction in September. These were not graded by CGC and only come included with a certificate of authenticity.

I'm curious if anyone knows: were the Frank Frazetta FF issues part of the Promise Collection Pedigree? Maybe I just missed it? hm It stands to reason Heritage would have these graded and auctioned off already if they were included with the collection.

  12. Looks like a quick, big sale via Elite Comics on Instagram today of a Famous Funnies 211 CGC 9.0 Sig Series. Beautiful book and a great sig placement by Frank...pretty rare to have in a yellow label, and tied for highest graded! At $20k +, this is a huge sale! Not many Famous Funnies Frazetta signed copies by Frank, especially in CGC sig series cases. People love their CGCs!

I also included one of my copies of Famous Funnies 215, purchased from Frank Frazetta's personal collection (see sig on bottom right in black marker).  I was told by Frank Jr. that the sig was made by his father with his left hand after he had his first stroke in 1995. Such an honor to have in my collection! Frank is my favorite artist, and I'm completely obsessed with this run of books. Recently completed the 209-216 + WSF 29 run! 13. I've been reading and collecting comic books off and on for 35 years, since I was seven years old. Got a decent collection, aiming for quality over quantity with back issues but still like to follow a new story arc here and there. Primarily hero books in my collection, but branching out more and more to independents in the last 10 years. Spider-man, X-Men, Batman, Swamp-Thing, horror (especially bronze DC), Science Fiction, Neal Adams, Bernie Wrightson, Frank Frazetta (Famous Funnies, anyone?), Jack Kirby, Todd McFarlane, John Byrne, etc. Don't have the money for pre-code horror or GA, but have a ton of respect for it!

Message boards are so 1995, but that's a good thing in my book. Hope to have some time to post here and spread some love. It's not so easy to find things and navigate around, so give me some time to get the lay of the land.

Also, I post some of my high grade raw collection with some fun anecdotes over on Instagram username= Landerians_Fire

Look forward to the banter! Thanks
