  1. I appreciate the feedback! There is definitely no V edge on this book. It is all very flush and very rough. I'm not looking to point fingers or hold anyplace accountable. It was part of a cheap lot purchased 2 years ago that had other books I was interested in, and it was always my intention to sell this one. I just would feel bad passing this off to somebody else on E Bay without disclosing that it might be trimmed, reader copy only.
  2. So this was bought as part of a lot a couple years ago from, let's just say, one of the big Houses of Auction. Getting ready to sell of some of my undercopies, I was counting pages, and some odd interior tears on the two innermost leaves got me looking at the edges a little closer. The cover doesn't show much but I show it for completeness: The rip that got me investigating: } Here's where it gets interesting. Some edge pics: The look somewhat like bindery flaws, but the big one 2nd from the bottom has a small piece that extends beyond the rest of the edge: ^This picture above is what got me suspicious. That doesn't look like normal chipping to me.^ Any thoughts or opinions?
  3. Another 5 point round. Not bad considering I spaced on the deadline and never gave them a 2nd look.
  4. I do the opposite. I imagine the book as if I'm looking to buy it and it is offered on a large comics retailer's site. I ask myself, "would I pay 6.0 (or any grade for example) money for this"?
  5. It's got about a 1/8th inch shadow down the right hand side of the front cover. Shadow is always difficult for me to grade. Upper right back cover appears to be maybe some ink transfer or rub, not sure. Lower left back cover has 3 tiny ripples. Not much else to note, the spine looks pretty good.
  6. 30s - Action Comics 40s - Captain America Comics 50s - Weird Science 60s - FF 70s - Superboy/LSH 80s - FF 90s - Sandman 00s - All-Star Superman This was harder than I expected.
  7. Since it hasn't come up yet, I'll give an Honorable Mention to Astro City
  8. CGC won't authenticate a signature they didn't witness. It will not end up in a signature series label.
  9. My best round ever! I saw the WW crease but still went easy on it. It's allowable at slightly higher grades!
  10. The FF have always been my number one. My first comic was FF 175 (Galactus vs the High Evolutionary). My Volume One collection is approximately 95% complete. I've read every issue pre-Onslaught, and I can say this: The FF have always cycled up and down in popularity. Like many said, their real popularity in comparison to other titles shrank toward the end of the Kirby run. Don't forget, after Buckler and Perez Marvel was begging people to take it over, but they couldn't get a regular team on that book until Byrne agreed to come on board (although in hindsight, Pollard did some nice work). Byrne in my opinion wrote some great stories, but made some questionable moves. I loved when Reed was trapped in the past by himself, and think a lot more could've been done there. Personally though, I hated the She-Thing, hated spiky Thing, and hated Johnny & Alicia. I don't think Simonson was a great fit for the book, and at the time I was not too excited about it. I lost interest around that time but still kept buying them because, well, it's the FF!
  11. From CGC's glossary: SLAB. A term used by some to describe the process of certification. Also used by some to describe the holder used in the certification of any collectible If you were to submit it, it would be up to CGC to find the appropriate slab to put it in, usually a magazine size slab for these. Perhaps you mean something different and I'm misunderstanding, in which case...
  12. Sue Storm. A very strong argument could be made for the Wasp as well, so she gets 2nd place. Betty Ross gets the "missing" vote.
