That seems rather generous...but you win some, you lose some.
In the same submission, there were other books that I thought were in as good (if not better) condition that came in at 9.4. No ink blotches.
So I guess I suck at grading.

By the way, it came in at 9.6, blotch and all.

So, pressing can probably correct the smaller crease near the right side, which doesn't appear to break color, but the big told is color breaking and can't be corrected. I'm not at all confident that a press will be worth the cost, nor that it will substantially improve this cover's presentation. A shame, as it's a real pretty book otherwise.
I don't have a great track record at numerical prognostication, so I'm hesitant to drop a number down. But I can safely say that EC's recent grade estimates are, with no offense intended, uselessly lowballing these comics. If I absolutely had to guess, I'd suggest that this told is significant enough to be a major defect, and that the final grade is probably 6.5. If they're willing to let that crease go as a moderate defect, I think you could get a 7.5. Either way, that's a $50 slab, give or take a little, per gocollect.
I agree.
It really is a nice book, except for the color breaking crease. And that tear. Actually, I'm currently attempting to return the book on General Principle, as this tear was not evident from the seller's photos.
Anyway, thanks.

Yeah, this one was a mistake. From the seller's photos, this looked like a pressable defect, but when I opened the package, I could quickly see this was a very expensive "reader" copy.
Damn.
And yet... 3.5? Really?
No offense, but looking for second opinions. I was hoping this one might be an 8-range after pressing, but I could be delusional here.

5.0 page quality will down grade it......creasing.....
5.0 seems a harsh. Anyone else agree with this?

9.0. I would not spend the money on a press. The value difference from 9.0 to 9.2 isn't there. Of course it's not always about value. Just my opinion.
Thanks. I agree.

Yes. This book? A pro won't hurt it, but I could see an amateur messing up that bottom staple.
If you have the disposable income to press... Sure, why not? I personally wouldn't burn the cash on this one.
Thanks. Reason I ask is because i recently submitted some other SW books (Marvel 1-7) that I felt were 9.0-ish for pressing via CGC in the hopes that they might achieve a higher grade. For the most part these books had some non-color breaking cover dings, bends, etc, so I went for it. But then I've been reading that one shouldn't get books pressed if they're already in good shape. Wasn't sure if this was a matter of exposure to potential damage or if it had to do with reaching the point of diminishing returns.
It seems the latter is the case - for this book, anyway.

9.0 range.
I wouldn't press it. Looks pretty good already.
Can pressing ever hurt a book, or is it just a matter of wasting money?

I have a general question about submitting CGC-encapsulated books for signing.
Do books usually come back with the same grade as submitted? I understand that they do get graded again once the case is opened and the book is signed. But how often are they down-graded, and, if they are, do you get any notes about that from CGC, or just receive a downgraded book, and a "Dem's da breaks. kid."?
