  1. My 8/31/12 submission included six invoices (78 books in total). So far 3 of the 6 invoices (all moderns so far) have been graded. None of them have been shipped yet but I did get the grades.

    So far the 9.8s include:

    Chew 1

    Walking Dead 10, 12, 25, 27, 28, 29, 33

    Chew 2 (x2)

    New Mutants 98

    Thief of Thieves 1 & 2

    Kick 1 Sketch Cover Variant

    Chew 3

    Uncanny X-Men 133

    Secret Wars 8

Hit Girl 1 Sketch Cover Variant

    Incredible Hulk 340 (x2)

    Fatale 1

Still no 9.9s or 10.0s for me yet.

Could you see the grades on the website? Did they tell you on the phone? Or could you just tell from the website that they passed a pre-screen?

I submitted the books under Metropolis's account. They were able to look up the invoices to see the grades on the ones that were completed.

So the books had been shipped?

None of them are shipped yet.

On a hunch, I called Metro and asked them to look up the invoice numbers.

Who called and got the grades?

  2. It's not. That's the point. Stupid-on-Tilt offered it up as an example to your, albeit facetious, query "please name me another business where the actual product has suffered so much and people just line up for more."
I know. My comment was to him but quoted you, cause you give the warm fuzzies.

No I don't. Somehow your Velcro must have gotten hot.

  4. There's no question CGC doesn't excel at communicating changes

Really? That's your takeaway? They're not good at communicating? Ok. Never mind then.

What else would it be? That CGC changes things just to *spoon* with their customers? That they're a monopoly, know it and don't care what anyone thinks? I'm sorry, but I just don't believe that.

You and I will have to disagree then. Whether they care or not, they act like they don't care. But I don't need them to.

On the one hand, people expect CGC to be treated with more deference and forgiveness because it's our hobby and hey, we're all in this together. On the other hand, please name me another business where the actual product has suffered so much and people just line up for more. Prices have gone up. Quality is variable. Service has gone down. Communication is terrible. The ONLY reason they continue to enjoy the success that they do is b/c of their monopoly status.

    eBay

Please. eBay is a shadow of what it used to be.

eBay is not even remotely similar to what it used to be.

Yeah, and don't see people just lining up for more eBay on their plate either.

  6. It used to state 3 graders.

I didn't realize CGC changed the three grader approach. I guess that is one way to spread out the work.

Yeah, but if the two graders disagree on the grade, who's going to break the tie? They will have to do "Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock."

  7. Not to stir up the pot further, but a little bird pointed me in the direction of this most recent change. Not sure if it has been addressed before or not.

"CGC guarantees that a comic book encapsulated in a CGC holder is authentic and has been inspected by at least two professionals."

Am I reading too much into this and the 2 "professionals" no longer need to be graders or is the wording CGC used poor.

Didn't it used to be 3 graders?

It dropped to two a few months ago.

  8. I'm sure you're mistaken. Just like I'm mistaken that my SS book which was pressed before it was signed, signed, dropped off at CGC during the show, picked up from CGC in Florida, pressed again, hand carried back to CGC in Florida, and now sits in a 9.6 holder with a lower back cover left hand non-color breaking crease wasn't the fault of the CGC. I guess myself and two other collectors missed it and two pressings weren't strong enough to flatten it out.

  9. If collectors keep getting frustrated and just keep paying the additional fees to have their books back faster CGC is never going to do anything to eliminate the backlog. Just my opinion!
