  1. 13 business days have passed on my fast track. Still showing graded, so they are not even keeping up with fast track now :(

Fast Track is more like 20 business days now.

Not really ... all my 12/05 FT modern invoices were shipped out on 12/21 - 13 business days.

Yeah, but you are part of the CGC Elite.

  2. From the very first time I put my faith in you,

    My heart said follow through

But I know now that I'm way down on your line

    But the waiting feeling's fine

So don't treat me like a puppet on a string

Because I know how to do my thing

Don't talk to me as if you think I'm dumb

I wanna know when you're gonna send my books

I don't wanna wait in vain for my books

I don't wanna wait in vain for my books

I don't wanna wait in vain for my books

'Cause summer is here - and my books are still waiting there

Winter is here - and my books are still waiting there

    Like I said -

It's been month after month since I'm waiting by my door

And still I wait some more

Ooh boy, ooh boy - is it crazy look, I wanna know now

For I to wait some more

    You see

In life I know that there is lots of grief

But my books are my relief

    Tears in my eyes burn

    Tears in my eyes burn

    While I'm waitin'

While I'm waitin' for my books

    You see

I don't wanna wait in vain for my books

I don't wanna wait in vain for my books

  3. Based on my most recent subs, CGC seems to be right on target with the grades - if anything, they've tightened up a bit so 9.6/9.8 tweeners are hitting 9.6 more often than the other way around.

See e.g. my last two WD 33s at 9.6. One of which passed both the Fingh and MSchmidt pre-screen. :o

You should have let Dre send them in, they would have been 11.0s :P

Walking Dead covers aren't made out of cardboard.

  4. Am I the only one that knows the lemon juice ink trick? Why do you need high tech glasses? Oh well.

I was a cub scout and a Gilbert Junior Chemist in the 50s thru early 60s (until pubescence hit). It was my recollection one used lemon juice AS the invisible ink, which was brought out by heat. I don't recall a process where lemon was used to juice bring out the invisible writing.

    You are correct... for once.

  5. I would be happy to use someone else who offers a service comparable to the CGC, and since we all know that it isn't PGX, perhaps you might offer a recommendation.

I have already found an alternative to the Registry, so I'm basically sitting on G and waiting for O.

So you want the same (or better) quality, at the same price with a faster turn around time?

Or are you willing to pay more for faster and better?

Just wondering what your acceptable metric is...

My acceptable metric would be a grading service that runs their business like Richard Evans runs Bedrock City Comics, like Joe Grisolia runs CFP Comics, like Andrew Cretella runs GACollectibles, and like Dale Roberts runs Dale Roberts Comics. A business where everyone is treated professionally and with the same level of respect and courtesy. A business where if you have a problem they are working to an end where both the business and the customer are equally satisfied instead of admonished like a child in school or taunted with phrases such as, "Well, yeah, prove it." That would be my acceptable metric.

  6. Right now I'd say CGC is all about the Quality, and is sacrificing Timing while trying to control costs. I think they know that if they increases costs to decrease timing they lose more customers than they gain (heck they kinda do that anyway with the different submission tracks).

There have been competitors in the past who gave you a fast turn around at a competitive or lower cost. But the quality wasn't there. Or at least the market decided the quality wasn't there (based on adoption rates).

Since this business is built around quality details (details in comic grading accuracy/consistency, details in handling something valuable so it is not damaged) I cant imagine CGC tossing the Quality vector aside to decrease turnaround times (while keeping costs in check).

    lol

Im not going to argue your right to disagree, or even laugh at me... but maybe a little substance behind your iconic assessment?

There are plenty of other comic book message boards out there, so if you aren't a satisfied CGC customer, don't use them, and head off to greener pastures to sow your message board oats.

  8. What it boils down to is that they really don't give a mess and you will get your books when you get them.

I'm sure someone is "concerned" about the turn around times and the lack of customer service, but the bridge between thought and action is usually a very long one.

So, the take home lesson here is that if you don't like the way the CGC is handling your books and their business, then go somewhere else... Oh, wait.

  9. economy sub - 07/02/2012 - verified

    dumdeedum

i must have a month to wait still?

No! You have way more than a month for Econs.

mmm my math was thinking it's still a 4 month wait. I forgot it's closer to 6 months now. I need to find that thread with "things to do while you wait for your subs"

I think we've hit "get married and have a child" at this point.

  10. Ive got stuff going to be graded this week, any scuttlebut on if cgc is still grading ultra tough or are they back to the median? Last I heard a month ago they had gone back to the median

It depends on where your books are in the queue.

And how many fast track books come in and bump it back a few days.

Just pray they're graded on a Tuesday and not a Thursday. Just pray.

The day doesn't matter anymore. What's time to a hog?

  11. M
It wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't just bragged about having graded 2 million comics. That's $30,000,000 if you figure it at the old rate of $15 per book on moderns. I'm sure they're not cheap but you would think they could spring for at least one more slabbing machine so that when they're doing on-site grading production isn't reduced due to the transit time of sending one to and from a con leaving only one running back in Florida. (shrug)

Wow. 30 million bucks... But wait, that's been only 3 mil a year. Puts in a different light.

add in rent, utilities, payroll, insurance, maintenance costs, etc., etc.

No wonder they needed to start charging for grader's notes, they were going under! :o

    meh

But that's at the minimum of $15 per book which MANY of them were not. It's almost double that price now for a Silver or Bronze age Economy sub isn't it?

Plus, the majority of the rent, utilities, insurance, maintenance costs, etc., etc. are being covered by the coin side of the business that occupies the same space.
