  1. I think Janson was at that time an especially heavy inker that gave Sal (and Kane) an extra dimension that I liked. On Colan, however, it was like adding a subwoofer when you already had a stack of subwoofers. Palmer all the way.
  2. Give another read to Felix's post - he explains how to find it. It's great, too. Lots of great stories from.. just a guy named Joe.
  3. I love this splash. Look at the details in the background. For instance: Volstagg running out the door, plowing into those guys while an Asgardian wedgie is being delivered.
  4. Funny - my favorite Buscema story, hands down, is this one: https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Marvel_Spotlight_Vol_1_30 It's incredibly well-written and illustrated. Always wished they'd done a follow up.
  5. Happy Birthday, Jack. Wherever you are, I hope you're punching Nazis.
  6. DING DING! Get that man a stat of Jack's cigar. This cover, though it is not mentioned in the description, is inks only. Kirby didn't touch it. Kirby penciled a cover that Marvel didn't reject...but didn't like the composition of... so someone in the bullpen redrew parts of it - apparently still not satisfying the art department - so Adkins lightboxed the pencils, which are still in the gallery of the lovely and talented Harry Mendryk: https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=144809
  7. And here's a rare one that is sorta legit but comes with a big fat asterisk that the seller isn't mentioning. Does anyone want to play our home game and explain why you don't want to buy this?* https://www.comicartfans.com/ForSaleDetails.asp?ArtId=5134785 *Unless you want something that's real but that's not Jack Kirby art. 8. Beyond all the garbage from Peru this week (https://www.liveauctioneers.com/search/?country=PE&from=alert&keyword=jack kirby&publishDateMin=1598058304&sort=-relevance&status=online&utm_campaign=SearchAlert_20200423_A&utm_content=matching&utm_medium=email&utm_source=SavedAlert), there's this domestic garbage: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/88942360_jack-kirby-signed The latter is a copy of the cover of Kirby Masterworks. It's terrible.
  9. So those X-Men pages neither sold nor went "back to the vault" but are still hanging out at asking prices that are - I was going to say "nihilistic" but I like "toxic" as First Upgrade said above. As the rabbits in Watership Down would say, those pages are now embleer. Did the Kirby pages sell? Anyone see what they went for?
  10. Oy. Thanks for contacting them. You're a good person for doing that. Not shocked that eBay did nothing - the surprise is that those Diktos were removed. (I mis-typed that, but I think the misspelling is apt. From now all all fake Ditkos are Diktos to me.)
  11. "Thank you for replying! Have you considered a rewarding career in the ETERNALLY vibrant field of NECROMANCY? Yes, as one RAISED FROM THE DEAD myself I can vouch for this THRILLING OPPORTUNITY
  12. Funny - I was just going to post a Marvel 1000 story too. A few friends gifted me with this, for which I am very grateful. This was fun to do. I am especially fond of the theater marquee.
  13. When it's down to the last two bidders, whichever one of them can keep their hand over an open candle flame longest wins the piece. I love comicconnect. G
  14. If anyone is willing to part with one of their Foster Popeyes, DM me.
  15. I just listened to the first two secret episodes and highly recommend them. As Felix says, it's the kind of freewheeling conversation between a couple of long-time collectors at a bar after a show. Maximum combo of entertaining and informative.
  16. They just added a bunch of stuff, including this. Bid early, bid often, bid to support a good cause: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/patrick-mcdonnell-mutts-daily-comic-strip-original-art-king-features-syndicate-2020-andlt-/p/7234-100001.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  17. Scott, have you inked other Buscema stuff? Because this is really good.
  18. I have this groovy Howard the Duck 2 page. Steve Leialoha is up there with Buscema for decorating the backs of his pages. But this issue was penciled partially by Brunner, partially by Starlin. I think the woman's face here is Steve but the Captain Marvel figures? Maybe Jim? Dunno.
  19. I'm thinking full-on truth and reconciliation commission. WHO SUPRESSED THE HAIR?
  20. Weirdly, I have paid attention to the Hulk's chest hair. It debuted in Hulk 3, stuck around for much of Hulk 4, then departed again until FF 25. When those unused Hulk pencils by Kirby showed up, courtesy of Larry Lieber, it was unclear what issue they were for, as they didn't fit any known story - but chest hair forensics suggested Hulk 4. Before that episode, he waxed. EDIT and IMPORTANT UPDATE: No chest hair in Avengers 1. Chest hair in Avengers 2 and 3.
  21. I've seen a lot of Kirby FF splashes, but I've never seen this show up before: https://comics.ha.com/itm/miscellaneous//p/7234-96003.s?ic4=ListView-Thumbnail-071515 This is from the era where Jack had just started inserting full-page spreads in his stories, seemingly so he'd get to the end faster. Some of them are superfluous, but holy cow this is a nice one.
  22. https://comics.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?Ne=1058&N=52+792+4294945588+1067&ic4=Refine-ComicCategory-102615 Strong artwork in here already. I can't recall having seen that JIM 112 page at auction, even when the book broke up 20-something years ago. Lots of Wood-inked Marvel pages. And TWO Raymond Flash Gordons with toppers?
