I wish! That's the time machine game I play with myself. I only met him in 1993, long after his commission time was done. In my dreams, I meet him in 1970, when I'm six years old and yet precocious enough to say "Yeah, now do the X-Men versus the New Gods."

I love the catalogue. So many great and strange images. I hadn't realized that in the pulps, if there's a woman in distress, 95% of the time she's on the left hand side of the cover. Wonder why.

Wow. The Frankenstein plate is as good as draftsmanship gets. It's not like anyone could look at that and say, "Oh, I'd much rather have something like this, only better."

Cool -- I look forward to the data when it shows up there (currently there are just a couple Johnny Comets up). In the meantime, given the anemic responses to this thread so far, I guess people are happy to let c-connect go with that whole "shhh - our auctions are secret" strategy.

I think they should add the feature in which any new bid adds another three months to the clock.

I was asked why this sketch is no good. You guys are all covering the answer very well. I'm reluctant to get into "why" anymore online, as I noticed that every time I got deep into how to tell a forger's work, at least one forger was reading the thread to see how to improve his work. So: it's fake, it's fake for the reasons you've uncovered, and it's fake for some more reasons that I won't get into.

I saw a lot of cool images in there -- I know some of the artists but many of them are unknown to me. Do people who know the field better see this as a strong collection? Is much of the work fresh to market? A level pieces? I'd love to learn more about this stuff.

It is really weird to me that some folks are having to explain that selling art you don't actually own is wrong and other folks just don't see that as a problem. Holy cow.

It's a very striking splash (even if it's worthless). Curious about there not being indicia or even glue stains -- I wonder if that note at the bottom means they statted it up for publication. G

This one is easy. In 1996, Gene Colan advertised in the back of the CBG that he would do commissions for $250. I sent him and Adrienne a copy of an old magic poster that I liked and hoped to one day use as the cover of a novel, if I ever finished writing it. I told him to put Howard the Duck in the place of the magician who was on the poster. Not only was it perfect (the expression on the Devil's face is so different than on the poster, and yet excellent in context), it started a decade-long series of commisions and a friendship that I very much miss. I had Steve Leialoha ink it a couple of years later, and Steve captured what was special about Gene's pencils.

To keep the video interesting it would be great if some John Wick-style action broke out among bidders every so often. Todd, Jim, Joe, Nadia, can you make that hahppen?

I understand the point about "fighting for their lives," which is a good one, but it doesn't have to go the way of ad hominem attack to still be accurate.

The $54,000 R Crumb "Keep on Truckin" reserve is now tripped. Which is impressive until you realize it's 1/100th of the Egyptian Queen reserve. G
